Chapter 2 That Man Is Yandel
Since they needed to make roast chickens that met the demand in a whole day, it was a lot of work. Hungry though, Josephine didn’t stop working with her parents until 11 a.m.
Lindsey said.
“Alright. Deliver them by tricycle. We’ll make the rest of the roast chickens.”
Josephine took off her apron, washed her hands, and couldn’t help looking down at her belly. It was flat. Nothing seemed abnormal. But her hunger reminded her that her baby might be hungry.
When her dad carried the roast chickens onto the tricycle, she went to the bakery next door to buy two buns and finished them at once.
Josephine didn’t dare to bring them back. Last time, she bought some and brought them home so that she could share them with her parents. But she was blamed by her mother, who believed that it was a waste of money.
Josephine finished them up and went back. Earl glanced at her and smelled the fragrance of the buns. But he said nothing. He only told her to be careful.
Josephine nodded and got onto the tricycle with six barrens of roast chickens.
She didn’t expect that the destination would be a fancy hotel located in the city center. There were rich and decent people.
With a hat, she was wearing a white T-shirt. She rode to the back door to the kitchen.
The chief didn’t expect to see a young girl like her. Surprised though, he said nothing but ask her to carry everything in.
Josephine nodded.
As she tried hard to carry the heavy barren, the chief frowned.
“Were your parents so busy that they sent a kid here?”
Josephine smiled.
“Yes. They are busy. Don’t worry. I got this.”
Carrying the heavy barren, she felt a force in her belly. She hoped that she could lose the baby because she wouldn’t need to go to the hospital then. After all, she had no money and didn’t dare to ask her parents for help.
Just as she carried the barrens into the kitchen, a black Bentley pulled off.
“Why did you pull off, Yandel?”
Yandel’s friend followed Yandel’s gaze and looked over in surprise.
“Isn’t she … the young girl you saved in the bar?”
Yandel looked at Josephine, who carried the barren. His face was dark. He didn’t want to be a busybody. He had already lost his virginity at the age of 30 for the mistake that day.
Seeing her weak body and the sweat on her face, Yandel suddenly thought of her sweet hug and aroma.
With a deep breath, he thought, “I am such a bastard! I lost control and slept with her. How could I feel turned on when I saw her? Shame on me.”
He opened the car door and walked over.
“Yandel.”
Josephine had carried three barrens in. There were three left. Wiping the sweat off her face, she planned to carry them in. She felt that her belly was tense, but it didn’t hurt. So she thought she might lose the baby if she tried harder.
Thinking that she was going to kill her baby, she felt so sad that she cried as she sweated.
With blurry eyes, she saw a thin hand carry the barren away.
She looked up into a pair of deep eyes.
She opened her eyes wide.
“You… It’s you?”
Yandel saw her red eyes and slightly frowned.
“Tired? Stop then. Why cry?”
Josephine sniffed and shook her head.
“No, I didn’t cry. I sweated.”
“Clean your face then. You need to carry them in?”
She nodded.
“Yeah. This hotel ordered these.”
Yandel carried two barrens in, which surprised Josephine. She tried to snap them back.
“It’s OK, Sir. I can do it.”
Yandel’s deep eyes looked at her. She was somehow scared, so she let go.
Then Yandel carried the two barrens into the kitchen.
“Should I put them here?”
The chief was checking the goods and didn’t look up.
“Yes. Right there.”
Then he realized it was a male voice. He looked up. It made his face change.
The chief hurried to close his notebook and walked over with a flattering smile.
“Mr. Schroeder, what are you … doing here? It’s not a good place for a decent man like you.”
Yandel ignored him and carried the last barren in.
“Done? Pay her now.”
The chief saw Josephine at the door in shock. This young girl actually knew Yandel? She even had him carry the barrens for her?
The fact that Yandel helped her would surprise anyone in the upper class in Geroll City, let alone him.
The Schroeder family was truly rich. Their wealth was accumulated generation by generation. It totally left other rich families behind.
Yandel was the only inheritor in his generation. He was at the top of the pyramid. But this young girl knew Yandel and had his help?
The chief realized that he should be friendly to her.
He hurried to go to Josephine with his notebook.
“Miss, you should have told me that you know Josephine Colon. You don’t need to deliver them anymore. We’ll send people to do the job. We agreed on a roast chicken for 15 dollars. How about I raise the price to 20 dollars?”
The chief named a price carefully.
It puzzled Josephine. She felt a roast chicken for 15 dollars was not cheap. But the chief raised the price to 20 dollars. It would be a large sum of money!
She bowed to the chief happily.
“Thank you! It’s a sweet deal. Thank you!”
The chief was very nice. He shook his hand.
“You are welcome. My pleasure.” He looked at Yandel, whose face was gloomy.
He didn’t dare to talk to Josephine and paid her at once. Then he went back to work.
Josephine walked out with the money, wondering if she could use the money for an abortion without telling her parents about the raised price. Even if her parents found it out later, what was done was done. She only needed to shut up. In the worst case, she would be punished.
