Chapter 3 Checkup
But Josephine searched online yesterday. It was said that she had to get her parents’ permission if she wanted an abortion. She didn’t dare to do it. If they knew she was pregnant, they would be furious.
She couldn’t help looking at Yandel. Although he saved her, he should be responsible for the baby too. Hesitant, she looked at him.
Being stared at by her watery eyes, Yandel recalled the marks he left on her body that day.
He softened up.
“I am responsible for what happened that day. I can make it up to you.”
Josephine shook her head, looking at him.
“I don’t need you to do it. Can you just do me a favor?”
Yandel saw her expression. She hesitated. It seemed that she was in trouble.
“OK. It’s hot here. Let’s get into the car.”
He took Josephine to the black Bentley and reached out to pull his friend out.
“You get in first and give them my best wishes!”
His friend was shocked and curious. Yandel was famous for being cold to women. He had never slept with anyone before.
He couldn’t help but lean against the window to see Josephine’s face, wondering, “Is he dating a girl?”
But Yandel put up the window, ignored his friend, and looked back at Josephine.
He asked hesitantly.
“How old are you?”
He looked at her chubby cheeks, afraid that he had slept with a teenager. It was illegal. And he would be guilty.
“19.”
Yandel was relieved. The good news was that she was an adult, which meant that he didn’t break the law.
However, the next second, he was so shocked by her words that he almost fell down his chair.
“I’m pregnant.”
Yandel frowned. It sounded familiar. Usually, such women just wanted to marry a rich man or get money. His friends used to be in the same situation and got rid of those women with money.
“How much do you want?”
Josephine looked at his cold face, pressed her lips, and explained.
“I don’t want money. I know you saved me, so I don’t need your money. But I can’t fix this alone. You don’t need to spend money. Can you…just sign the operation consent?”
“What? What do you mean?”
Yandel got up from the driver’s seat, pulled the back door open, and sat in.
His sudden action made her uneasy. She shrank in panic to stay away from him.
“I don’t want to threaten you with the baby. Sorry to bother you. But I need my parents’ permission if I want an abortion. I…I can’t let them know.”
“Abortion?”
Yandel looked at her flat belly. He couldn’t believe that she was carrying his baby.
Yandel was from a family of old money. He was in charge of his family business at the age of 22. He managed to expand the company in the next 8 years and make his family prosper.
Josephine saw his cold face and dark eyes. Biting her lips, she told herself not to be afraid. She really needed his help because she couldn’t solve the problem on her own.
“You just need to put your signature on it. I won’t see you again. You’ll not be in trouble.”
Josephine tried to convince him in fear that he would not help her. What should she do then? She even wondered if she should sue him and force him to help her. But it was not in her nature. After all, Yandel saved her. If not for him, she would have ended up more miserably.
Yandel grabbed her wrist, however, to pull her closer.
Josephine was shocked. But Yandel was much stronger, so she was pulled over.
“What do you want?”
Yandel frowned. His serious face looked intimidating.
He found that she was so weak. Actually, he didn’t pull her hard. Looking at her uneasy eyes, he softened up subconsciously.
“Are you sure you are pregnant? Did you have a checkup in the hospital?”
Josephine blinked.
“No. I bought a pregnancy test. Two…lines.”
Yandel stared at her, went back to the driver’s seat, and started the car.
Josephine was shocked.
“My tricycle is still there. Where are we heading for?”
“Hospital. Let’s come back later.”
The car stopped at Yonee Hospital. Josephine knew this excellent private hospital. Many stars and rich people came here. But it was too expensive for common people.
Seized by Yandel, she looked at his hand and felt a bit cold. But It didn’t hurt.
Seeing his gloomy face, she didn’t dare to say no. So she followed in obediently.
Yandel took her to the top floor by elevator.
The director of Yonee Hospital was having a meeting with the management. When his assistant told him that the boss of the hospital was there, he let everyone go and went back to his office.
Yandel pointed at Josephine.
“Give her a checkup and see if she is pregnant.”
The director was shocked, but he didn’t ask. He gave her a checkup, instead.
Yandel sat on the couch with his legs crossed. But he looked at the door in disbelief. Somehow, he felt expectant.
He had a baby? He didn’t realize his sincere smile.
Josephine received a checkup and went back to the office.
She asked quietly, “Sir, how much do I need to pay for an abortion?”
She worried that she might not have enough money. After all, it was expensive to see a doctor here. She thought she should go to a smaller hospital.
The director looked at her in shock.
“Abortion? You don’t want the money? It’s a money tree!”
Josephine thought of Yandel’s cold face. And her parents were cold to her. Although she wanted the baby, she was unable to raise a child.
The director was puzzled. But he thought that it might be Yandel’s choice. After all, not everyone had the honor to give birth to a child for him.
So the director looked at her with pity. He thought, “Oh, no! She is so young! Did she get herself pregnant to marry into the Schroeder family? How could an ordinary girl be accepted by such a family?”
