Chapter 78 What had she just witnessed?
karla was utterly flabbergasted by the sight that unfolded before her. A gasp escaped her lips, her eyes widening as if they might leap from their sockets.
The heavens above!
What had she just witnessed?
Oliver, of all people, was behind the wheel, chauffeuring none other than Conrad and his sister Julia?
“How… How is this even possible?” Karla stammered, her astonishment verging on disbelief.
A profound realization surged within her, and her mind spun with audacious thoughts, expanding and fermenting into a daring hypothesis.
“It has to be!”
Why else would Oliver personally drive Conrad and Julia‘ Why would the receptionist treat her with such disdain during the interview? Why did Oliver shield Julia earlier at the company?
And the name of this very enterprise was J&C Limited‘
“Unbelievable!” Karla’s shock was palpable, her excitement gaining momentum like a whirlwind.
In an instant, her ex boyfriend’s identity snapped into place like a missing puzzle piece. He was the mastermind behind the company, and her future held the promise of opulence as a wealthy.
wife.
Summoning a taxi, Karla pursued the car fervently, her determination unshaken until she reached the gate.
“Conrad!” Karla intercepted, halting Conrad’s path. “I’m sorry, I realize my mistakes now. I shouldn’t have left you before. But let’s be honest, it’s not all on me, it was also your-”
Julia’s voice cuts through Karla’s monologue. “You’re correct. Not all the blame rests on your shoulders. If we’re pointing fingers, my brother is to blame too. Blame him for inadvertently putting you off with his disfigured appearance, making you lose your taste for being Watson’s pampered mistress. It’s truly his fault that he failed to satisfy your vanity.”
Julia’s words dripped with caustic sarcasm, and Karla’s face turned into a mix of shades, a

testament to her boiling anger.
Julia’s tongue was truly razor–sharp. When she became your sister–in–law, she’d likely plant seeds of discontent in your brother’s ear. Let’s see how subservient you’ll be then. A single slip, and you might find yourself expelled from the household.
Karla had little patience for further exchange with Julia, choosing to direct her gaze at Conrad with teary eyes. “Conrad, after so many years, we can’t just let go of everything. Frankly, I’ve been struggling ever since our breakup. Sleep eludes me, and a constant weight hangs over me, leaving me drained.”
“Really? Your appearance doesn’t really reflect that sentiment. In fact, it seems you’ve put on a few pounds, Karla. Is it possible that post–breakup, your mood led to some excessive indulgence?” Julia’s impish grin was paired with a pointed glance toward Karla’s slightly protruding belly.
Karla’s eyes widened in disbelief, her rage barely contained. How dare Julia insinuate she was overweight! The audacity!
Suppressing her fury, Karla turned back to Conrad. Yet, before she could voice her thoughts, Conrad interjected.

you. At the very least, I used to cherish the fond memories we shared. Now, however, my disappointment knows no bounds. Your behavior has turned nothing short of distasteful.”
Disgusting? Really?
Karla erupted in a storm of fury, her voice a crescendo of anger.
“This is not solely my fault! What woman wouldn’t seek a promising partner? It’s in our nature. When you left the Watson family recently, penniless and destitute, why should I be shackled to your struggles? Why, tell me why?!”
Julia stepped forward, positioning herself between Karla and Conrad. “Of course, you have the right to choose, to exercise your freedom. But remember, my brother too possesses that very right. And he will not choose someone like you, who flourishes in ease and abandons at the first sight of difficulty. So, in the future, kindly steer clear of my brother’s path – your presence is an eyesore.”
“You, Julia! I can’t stand you!” Enraged, Karla lunged at Julia, her fingernails aiming for a strike at Julia’s face. Yet, before her talons could land, Conrad intervened, restraining her.

“Let go!” Karla seethed, her anger unabated.
With an enraged countenance, Conrad forcefully pushed Karla away, causing her to stumble repeatedly, her expression oscillating like a flickering signboard.
“It’s one thing to betray my feelings, but to target my sister as well!” Conrad’s voice reverberated. with anger as he stood protectively beside Julia, his gaze piercing and cold as it bore into Karla.
Karla’s mouth hung open, her visage betraying a hint of bewilderment. It was inconceivable that Conrad, known for his gentle and polished demeanor, would direct such intensity at her one day.
Undoubtedly, Julia must have painted an unsavory portrait of her in Conrad’s ears!
Such thoughts fueled Karla’s resentment, and she retaliated with a venomous glare aimed squarely at Julia.
In response, Julia arched an eyebrow, a playful glint in her eyes.
She’s still finding this amusing? Karla was on the brink of exploding!
Fine, just wait, Julia! Both you and Conrad! You’ll regret this!
Following Karla’s departure, she promptly dialed Paul, the older gentleman who had been pursuing her.
“Hello? Paul, do you have a moment? Meet me at the Norwegian Hotel…”
Hah! What’s the big deal with a so–called “great” company? It’s merely a fledgling start–up, and Oliver’s inexplicable stroke of luck has propelled him to this point.
The individual Karla was seeking, Paul, Paul Andrew, had his enterprise well–established in Monroe City, thriving in business for many years.
Not long ago, Paul had been bragging to Karla about his company’s dealings with the affluent Brooks clan. Once this alliance solidified, the Andrew family would ascend to the of Monroe City’s social strata.

Karla had previously spurned Paul’s advances primarily due to his sinister reputation – four deceased wives under his belt. Yet, she now found herself heedless of caution, fixated on exacting

revenge.
Crushed by the desire to triumph over Julia and Conrad, she cast her concerns aside.
Resolving to carry out her plan, Karla sought solace in spiritual artifacts to safeguard her endeavors. Surely that would suffice.
The scene shifted.
Julia held a glass of red wine, her gaze fixed on Conrad as she smiled. “Brother, congratulations on ridding yourself of that scumbag.”
Conrad chuckled, his head shaking. He raised his own wine glass, clinking it lightly against Julia’s. “Congratulations to you as well, for finally breaking free from Carter.”
“To victory,” Julia toasted.
Julia’s phone chimed, interrupting the moment. Reluctantly, she answered, only to hear Carter’s voice on the other end.
Why would he be calling her?
Julia’s brow furrowed as she responded, “What do you want?”
“I want to meet you alone. There are things I need to tell you.”
Curious, Julia pondered Vivien’s intentions. Meeting her alone was bound to be a trap.
“Fine.”
She was resolved to uncover Vivien’s motives, whatever they may be.
The following afternoon, Julia and Vivien agreed to meet at a coffee shop.
Across the street from the café, a billiards room on the fourth floor of an entertainment club caught their attention.
“What are you staring at? It’s your turn,” Henry nudged Jared, pool cue in hand, gesturing towards the coffee shop in question.

“Wanna grab coffee? After this round, we could head over,” Henry suggested, noticing Julia leaning against the floor–to–ceiling windows.
“Hey! Check out the beauty over there! She’s incredible!” Henry pointed towards Julia, a smitten grin lighting up his face as he nudged Jared, clearly captivated by her presence.
