Chapter 77 Conrad is the general manager of the company, Karla regrets it to th e gut
Witnessing Conrad’s departure from the company. Julia’s heart was aflutter. Could he really be an employee here now?
“I have no ties to you anymore. No explanations necessary,” Conrad declared, his gaze softening as he regarded Julia. His usual gentleness and humility returned as he said, “It’s rather windy outside, go on in.”
“Very well,” Julia agreed, clasping her elder brother’s hand as they made their way towards the company entrance.
Karla, meanwhile, seethed on the sidelines, her anger bubbling over. “Conrad, what’s the point of your amiable façade now? The Watson family has shown you the door – you’re left with nothing!”
Julia paused, turning to face Karla squarely. “Nothing? Does that mean I can’t start anew from scratch?”
Karla let out a mocking laugh, a sneer contorting her face. “Starting from nothing? What a grand illusion! Without resources, your talk of a fresh beginning is just wishful thinking.”
“You really do underestimate people,” Julia began before Conrad intervened, his voice calm but
firm.
“Julia, let it go. No need to explain to her. She is who she is, and we are who we are.”
Julia recognized the truth in his words, her own disposition aligning with Conrad’s sentiment. Yet, this involved her brother, and she wouldn’t tolerate anyone belittling him.
With a nod, Julia proceeded into the company alongside Conrad, leaving Karla fuming behind.
them.
Karla’s frustration boiled over, and she slammed her foot down – forgetting the discomfort of her high heels. Wincing in pain, she hopped involuntarily, drawing the attention of onlookers. How utterly mortifying! All thanks to Conrad and Julia.
A dismissive snort escaped Karla’s lips. So what if they entered the premises before her? She sneered at the thought that despite her education and appearance, she had failed to secure the job.
Karla presented her resume at the front desk with a hopeful smile. “Hi, I’m here to apply for the

position of the general manager’s secretary.”
The receptionist took a cursory glance at her resume before offering a curt response. “Sorry, we’ve already filled the position.”
“What? No way! I arrived so early, how can it be filled already?” Karla protested, her disbelief evident.
As Karla spoke, another candidate approached – a young woman with aspirations similar to Karla’s. “Hello, I’m here to apply for the role of secretary to the general manager. Here’s my
resume.”
The receptionist gestured toward the HR department. “Please proceed for your interview.”
“Thank you!” The new candidate practically skipped away, her excitement mingling with
nervousness.
Karla’s eyes widened as she observed this interaction, her frustration intensifying. She confronted the receptionist with incredulity. “Why are you still here? You may leave now,” the receptionist retorted, her tone anything but welcoming.
Karla was livid, teetering on the edge of erupting. “Didn’t you just say the position was filled? Then what’s happening now?”
A sudden realization dawned upon Karla, her expression shifting. “I see through your game! That woman must be your relative. You’re abusing your power, preventing me from interviewing. Well, I won’t budge. I’ll wait for the general manager to appear, and I’ll lodge a complaint against you right in front of him!”
Unfazed, the receptionist’s demeanor remained unperturbed. Fear her? No, quite the opposite. She was confident, acting in accordance with Julia’s instructions from earlier.
“Please leave immediately. If you refuse, I’ll have security escort you out.”
Karla’s disbelief surged anew. She couldn’t fathom the audacity of this seemingly insignificant front desk personnel.
Just then, her attention was drawn to a young man emerging from the elevator – unmistakably Conrad, exiting the building once more.

Behold! None other than Oliver, the premier assistant of Prestige Enterprises, had graced her presence. He was a face she’d often glimpsed on financial broadcasts and headlines, a luminary who had walked the hallowed halls of Meadows University, ascending to a lofty status within the corporate cosmos.
The reason for her current interview voyage had been twofold. Firstly, she was drawn by the prospect of joining a budding enterprise, harboring ambitions of ascending the echelons to at prominent role. Yet, looming large in her aspirations was Oliver.
In her eyes, J&C Limited‘ prowess in recruiting Oliver spoke volumes of its substantial connections and influence. This enigmatic background was indeed alluring.
“This Oliver is even more dashing in person!” Karla murmured, ogling Oliver like a smitten.
admirer.
In her perusal, her gaze snagged on Conrad, who emerged from the elevator beside Oliver. Comparing the two, one had to concede that Conrad was no inferior contender in the aesthetics department, a distinguished alumnus of their alma mater. However, a man’s true worth lay not merely in his visage, but in his prowess and resources.
“Special Assistant Oliver!” Karla’s feet practically danced her over to Oliver, feigning a wronged demeanor while casually tending to her hair. “I arrived to apply for the general manager’s secretary position, only to be told the company had ceased recruiting, all to make way for their own cronies.”
Julia shuddered at Karla’s feigned theatrics, finding them repulsive. Karla’s intentions were as transparent as glass to anyone with a pair of functioning eyes.
Karla’s lamentations were secondary, her ulterior motives allured by Oliver’s presence. This realization prompted Julia to cast a glance at Conrad.
Conrad’s brow furrowed slightly, an undercurrent of distaste shadowing his features. Surely, he was reevaluating life choices, questioning how he’d missed Karla’s true colors back in their school days.
Julia tugged at Conrad’s sleeve, whispering words meant for his ears alone. “Brother, it’s not your eyesight that failed you, it’s Karla’s incredible aptitude for deception. Don’t overthink it, just see through her façade. If you wait until she’s married and has kids, it might be too late.”
Conrad affectionately ruffled Julia’s hair. “You’ve got sharp instincts.”

Julia beamed at Conrad, mischief twinkling in her eyes.
Oliver’s gaze shifted to the front desk staff. “Did you orchestrate this?”
“I was the puppet master,” Julia confessed.
“It was you?” Karla glared at Julia, her voice dripping with accusation. “I knew it! Why did sabotage my interview opportunity? Julia, why?”
“Because I don’t want you sullying the company with your vain ways. Your affinity for superficiality is rather off–putting,” Julia retorted without mincing words.

Karla’s frustration reached its boiling point, and she turned to Oliver. “Assistant Oliver, did you witness these lowly employees abusing their power so brazenly?”
“Come here.” Oliver beckoned, summoning two security guards to his side.
Witnessing this unfolding spectacle, Karla couldn’t resist a smug grin, casting a triumphant look at Julia. Serves her right! Who knew revenge could be so sweet?
“Remove her.” Oliver’s directive was clear as day.
“What? Me? Why-” Karla’s protest was cut short as the security guards promptly escorted her
away.
Lying on the ground, Karla’s glamorous facade was disheveled, her makeup smudged – an ignominious sight to behold.
“Julia!”
“Conrad!”
Karla’s spiteful cries echoed through the air, but her gaze soon shifted. She observed Oliver respectfully opening the car door, ushering Conrad and Julia inside. Taking the driver’s seat, Oliver revved the engine and guided them away.
