Suddenly, the power blinked out, and the entire theater plunged into darkness.
“What the heck just happened?” The sudden blackout stirred up a chorus of voices.
Julia stood up and glanced toward the screening hall entrance.
“Looks like there’s a glitch with the equipment.” Jared’s voice chimed in, a tinge of annoyance seeping through his tone.
Just a smidge more time, and he could’ve found himself in the girl’s arms.
“Oh.” Julia clutched her stomach, an uneasy feeling creeping in. Maybe she downed a bit too much
cola
“I’m going to the restroom.”
Tll come with you”
“No need, 1-
Julia barely got the words out when she accidentally stepped on something, making her lose her balance and tumble right onto the guy, hitting a rather sensitive spot.
“Mom A muffled groan escaped Jared’s lips
Julia turned beet red. This awkward situation was uncalled for
“Um, I’m sorry. It wasn’t my intention. You alright? Nothing cracked, right?”
Caught off guard by the girl’s concern, Jared sported a sheepish grin.
The line “Why don’t you check?” almost slipped from his tongue
“Since you’re all savvy with medicine how bout you give it a look?” His voice, alluringly low, trickled into Julia’s ears. It was so tempting that it felt like her ears could’ve conceived from just listening And given the context, it left a lot to the imagination.
“You should find a male doctor,” she shot back
“Why the gender bias for curing ailments? I don’t mind. Just help me check it,” Jared teased with at grin, staring at Julia. Although he was just about making out her silhouette in this darkness, it still brought him an odd kind of joy.
Julia couldn’t help but feel like he was totally doing this on purpose. “From how you’re talking, I’m guessing it’s not a huge deal. And if it were, don’t sweat it. You’ve got a little brother, right? Your family line can continue to live on through him.”
“Ah choo“” Shiloh sneezed.
“Who’s talking about me?” he grumbled.
Speaking of which, his brother and Julia had gone on a movie date. How did things pan out? Did they take things up a notch?”
Shiloh held out till pretty late, waiting for Julia and Jared, but when there was no sign of them coming home, he eventually went to bed. When Shiloh woke up the next day, Jared was already out and at the company. Julia was out in the yard, putting herself through some exercise routine. “You’re up” Seeing Shiloh, Julia came over, checking his pulse pronto.
“You’ve recovered quite well, and your appetite is good too. If you were from an ordinary family with poor nutrition, it would probably take another month to achieve the same result as yours,”

she noted.
She brought over a cane she had prepared in advance. “Starting today, no more wheelchair for you.”
“That’s good.” Shiloh took the cane from her hand, mustering the effort to stand.
“Could be a bit tricky at first, but give it a couple of days, and you’ll get the hang of it.”
At Julia’s encouragement, Shiloh glanced down at his legs. He hesitated a bit, then asked, “You think my legs can actually fully recover without any side effects?”
The truth was, just being able to stand was already great for Shiloh. It was just that if there was a chance to get even better, why not go all the way?
“Rest assured. You’ll make a complete recovery. Running, hopping, and even keeping the family line going,” Julia assured.
Cough, cough, cough- Shiloh choked on his own saliva and turned a beet red. “You really have
thick skin.”
Julia casually peeled an orange and continued, “Your brother’s the one with thick skin. Your brother even-”
But then she cut herself off. What she was about to spill might not be suitable for children.
Leaving her sentence hanging left Shiloh really frustrated! Especially since the next part was what he was genuinely curious about!
“What happened to my brother yesterday?”
Could it be his brother showed off some skills and made a move on Julia? Was he about to become
an uncle soon?
“Nothing, forget I said anything.”
“Hey! You can’t stop mid–sentence and leave me hanging! You gotta spill it. If not, I’ll be all night.”
up
Shiloh’s nagging hit Julia like a relentless ping–pong ball. Finally, she gave in, partly serious and playful. “Your brother had a close call with ending the family line last night.”
“Gasp-!”
Shiloh sucked in the air like a vacuum with wide eyes. He stared at Julia, thinking, ‘She’s that fierce?‘
As he thought this, a memory rolled in. It was that scene from a few days back when Julia single–handedly took on several opponents.
‘Yeah, she could totally be that fierce!”
Julia’s scalp prickled, feeling Shiloh’s gaze drilling into her. What was up with that look? It sent shivers down her spine.
Over the next days, Julia searched high and low for the little jade statue in the villa. She practically turned the place upside down and even poked around the old villa–still nothing. Only Jared’s room remained.
Her hunch. His room probably had a safe, and that little jade statue was likely sitting in it.
‘I got to find the perfect opportunity to comb through Jared’s room.‘
Ding!

Julia’s phone buzzed, and it was a message from Conrad.
[Do you have time to come over today? You’ve yet to check out the new company since it kicked off.]
[I’m free tonight. How about we go to Aubergine for dinner?]
[Sounds good. See you then.]
Half an hour later, Julia rolled up to the J&C Limited headquarters. Conrad named the company himself, and it broadcasted how much his little sister meant to him.
“Julia? What are you doing here? Are you also applying for the position of CEO’s secretary?”
Hearing the voice, Julia turned around.
“Karla?”
Karla was holding a résumé in her hand. Was she vying for her brother’s secretary spot? “Julia, I’ve set my heart on being the CEO’s secretary. You’re not allowed to compete with me!” Karla sized up Julia’s stunning face with a hint of anxiety bubbling up in her gut.
She thought of herself as a bit of a beauty, but when placed next to Julia, though she wouldn’t admit it, Julia was more attractive.
If Julia were to show off her charm and win over the CEO of J&C Limited, Karla’s own shot would be slimmer than slim.
Karla was actually here for the secretary job, which was unexpected. If she later discovered Julia’s brother was the CEO of J&C Limited, that would probably knock her for a loop.
“A–Yu, you made it. Come on in,” Conrad welcomed.
“Conrad?!!” Karla’s gaze turned incredulous as she locked onto his face.
His face had healed! There were no signs of injuries left. Not only that, but because of his
improved skin condition, his overall appearance was even better than before.
Conrad was way into his greeting Julia and missed Karla coming in. “Why did you come here?”
Karla didn’t have time to answer Conrad’s question and hurriedly asked, “How did your face heal? Weren’t they saying it couldn’t be treated? Also, why are you here?”
