Chapter 264: Who’s Your Wife?
“I-” Maddie’s expression was extremely complicated, torn inside.
“You can talk to Henry and negotiate the terms of marriage. The specific details will be up to you and Henry.”
“Will he agree?” Maddie asked anxiously.
“He will.”
Julia believed that not only would Henry agree, but he would be happy about it.
All along, Henry had wanted to move in and live with Maddie to prevent her brother, Jiang Xiuzhe, from getting the upper hand. Even though her brother had told Henry more than once that he regarded Maddie as a sister, it was hard to resist her brother’s good looks! So, no matter what her brother said, Henry was still worried.
Maddie was adamant about not letting Henry move in, and no matter how hard Henry tried to persuade her, he didn’t dare to actually move in, afraid of upsetting Maddie.
Now, the opportunity had come. How could Henry not seize this rare chance? What did their previous agreement matter? He would first deceive Maddie into marrying him. Later, if they really got closer due to constant interaction, who knows, they might genuinely stay together for a long time.
In the end, Maddie accepted Julia’s suggestion and made a three–point agreement with Henry. Without much thought, Henry readily agreed. No matter how unreasonable the conditions Maddie set, he accepted them gladly. When Maddie moved in, she would be his for the taking, and there was no turning back for her.
On Saturday, it was the day for both sets of parents to meet. Maddie held onto Julia, not letting her go.
Julia smiled wryly, “I’m not going to run away midway. Keep your worries to yourself.”
Julia was also helpless. Why did they need to drag her along when both sets of parents were meeting? She was the only outsider, and wouldn’t she feel awkward?
“We’re here,” the taxi driver said. “It’s a total of 56 yuan.”
After Maddie’s father paid and got out of the car, he stood in front of the international hotel, looking somewhat dazed.
Maddie’s mother, after getting out of the car, looked up at the luxurious and extravagant hotel, stunned for a few seconds. Then she turned to Maddie and asked, “Are you sure it’s here?”
Maddie was momentarily speechless. She hadn’t expected that the place Henry had chosen for their meeting would be so upscale.
This kind of five–star hotel would surely be frighteningly expensive.
“This Henry really is pretending to be rich beyond his means!” Maddie murmured softly, her lips twitching.
Maddie’s voice was very soft, and neither her father nor her mother heard it, but Julia, who was close to Maddie, caught that remark.
Julia shrugged and didn’t explain much. They would know soon enough.
“Wife!” Henry came out of the hotel, beaming, and walked towards Maddie’s family.
“Who’s your wife!” Maddie grumbled in irritation, her voice barely audible.

Henry came to Maddie and greeted her parents warmly, “Dad, Mom.”
“Shameless!” Maddie rolled her eyes, rendered nearly speechless.
Maddie’s father glanced at Maddie and then at Henry, coughing to clear his throat. “Since the die is cast, if you call us ‘dad‘ and ‘mom,‘ we’ll respond in kind. But what you did wasn’t right. You’ve been pregnant for months, and you didn’t even tell us.”
“I’m sorry, Dad. It’s my fault. I was immature! But rest assured, from now on, I will take good care of Maddie and won’t let anyone bully her.” Henry’s apology was sincere, leaving Maddie’s father momentarily at a loss for words.
Maddie’s mother struggled to find the right words, holding back her initial thoughts. Both of them understood Maddie’s temperament. Most likely, Maddie didn’t want Henry to mention it, yet Henry didn’t mention it at all and took all the blame upon himself. This gesture improved their impression of Henry.
Feeling that her parents were not as angry with Henry, Maddie couldn’t help muttering, “Sounds nice. As long as you don’t bully me, that’s a blessing.”
Henry turned to Maddie and smiled, saying, “That won’t do. If I don’t bully you, it’ll mean I’m useless.”
“Cough, cough, cough.” Maddie’s father coughed, trying to stifle his laughter.
Maddie’s mother looked at Henry and felt satisfied. This was the true nature of a man.
“My parents are waiting inside; we’ve reserved a private room. Let’s go in,” Henry led the way. Maddie stepped closer to Henry and whispered, “Hey! Did you book a private room here? Do you have a lot of money? What a waste!”
“Are you worrying about money for me?” Henry laughed.
“Who’s worrying about you? Let me tell you. Even though I don’t acknowledge you, if you insist on contributing to the child’s support, I won’t stop you. But in the future, if you squander and waste like
you did today, with this money, can’t you buy baby formula and diapers for the child?” Maddie and Henry’s conversation wasn’t too loud, but people nearby could still hear.
“Henry, what Maddie said is right. Young people nowadays are too extravagant in their daily lives. You’re about to start a family; save where you can. Today is just a meeting between both sets of parents to set a date; there’s no need for such a luxurious place,” Maddie’s father commented, observing the opulence of the surroundings.
Maddie’s father was referring to the well–dressed people dining inside and the upscale cars in the parking lot.
Henry clarified, “Dad, don’t worry, we’re not paying for the meal here.”
Hearing Henry’s words, Julia belatedly remembered something.
This international hotel was owned by Henry’s family.
“Not paying? Why? Just because you’re handsome?” Maddie rolled her eyes at Henry.
As for Maddie’s parents, they didn’t take Henry’s words seriously and considered it a playful joke.
Soon, they entered the private room and were introduced to Henry’s parents.
“Hello, hello.”
“Hello, nice to meet you. I am Maddie’s father…”
Both sets of parents exchanged brief introductions.

Maddie grabbed Julia and whispered in a hushed tone, “Geez, Henry’s parents look so young. They seem younger than
my parents.”
“They must be well taken care of,” Julia replied.
It wasn’t surprising; affluent individuals tended to age gracefully compared to those facing financial strains.
“Shall we order first?” Henry’s father handed the menu to Maddie’s parents.
“No need to be polite.”
When Maddie’s parents received the menu, their eyes widened in surprise.
Every dish had four–digit prices, except for the vegetarian options, which were three digits. The costs were astronomical.
“Dad, why don’t you take the lead in ordering?” Maddie leaned over to take a look at the menu. “Huh–this is quite extravagant?”
Suddenly, Maddie got upset and raised her foot to stomp on Henry’s foot.
“Ouch-“Henry yelped in pain, turning to Maddie and whispering, “What are you doing?” Worried their conversation might be overheard, Maddie leaned closer to Henry’s ear.
