Chapter 257: Am I Really That Old?
The rhythmic “dug–dug–dug” echoed in the air as Julia’s heart raced uncontrollably, quickening with every passing moment.
It was undeniable that the man’s gaze had been undressing instead, and even when she caught him in the act, he didn’t shy away. Instead, he looked at her even more boldly.
“Do you find it strange that I’m dressed like this?”
Speaking of her outfit, it had been Maddie’s idea. She had bought the clothes but never worn them, and they ended up in Julia’s hands due to her pregnancy–related weight gain. Not wanting to let those garments go to waste, Maddie handed them over.
Julia had never ventured into this particular style before, deciding to try it on a whim. To her surprise, it gave her a whole new vibe.
She hadn’t anticipated the intense scrutiny she received from the man.
“You look adorable,” Jared sincerely complimented, his eyes locked onto Julia’s body, never wavering.
“So you like this style?” His reaction genuinely took Julia aback.
“It’s not that simple,” Jared replied.
“Huh? What do you mean?” Julia was puzzled.
He had just praised her for being cute. Didn’t that imply he liked cute people?
Jared reached out and gently grabbed Julia’s braid, then brought it to his lips and kissed it.
Julia’s eyes widened in surprise, and she stammered, “You-” but Jared continued to speak, leaving her flustered. Why had he suddenly kissed her hair like that?
As for how fast Julia’s heart was pounding at that moment, only the heavens knew.
While watching the man kiss her hair, Julia felt it was more embarrassing and exhilarating than if he had kissed her mouth directly.
“I adore everything about you,” Jared finally answered Julia’s question, admitting his attraction to her regardless of whether she adopted a mature or cute style or the sultry look she wore to the bar. Each style ensnared him, making it hard to break free.
“Tell me, were you born to confound me?” Jared provocatively whispered in Julia’s ear, his magnetic, deep voice instantly causing her cheeks to flush.
This man was clearly doing it on purpose!
In the end, Julia chose not to respond to Jared’s question directly.
Twenty minutes later, they finally reached the amusement park. Stepping out of the car, Julia took her first breath of fresh air in a while.
In the cramped car, she had felt like a delicacy on a plate, as if waiting for men to devour her at any moment.
Just as Julia was mulling over this, she noticed that many people around were casting surprised glances in her direction.
“Isn’t this young lady lovely? My goodness, she’s in a league of her own compared to my daughter.”
Young lady?
Hearing this description, Julia couldn’t help but feel a bit strange. She was no longer that young;

Julia also observed that the girl next to the person who made the comment was likely his daughter. The girl seemed quite young, possibly not even in college yet.
How did she stack up against someone as young as her? Did her current appearance really make her seem so innocent?
Just as Julia was pondering this, a high school boy in uniform approached, holding a
marshmallow with a shy expression. “Excuse me, comrade, classmate… I got this for you,” he said, clearly trying to strike up a conversation with Julia.
Julia blinked in surprise. She wasn’t blind; she could tell that the boy was interested in her!
Speaking of which, the boy had the courage to approach her because he had his own merits. He appeared sunny, clean–cut, easy on the eyes, and definitely not short, standing at least 178cm tall. At that moment, a very low voice suddenly came from behind Julia.
“She doesn’t accept gifts from strangers.”
This remark startled the boy. As he looked up, he was met with Jared’s stern face, which was even more intimidating than his words.
People around them began to chatter once more.
“Is this man the girl’s father? He’s incredibly handsome, isn’t he? He’s just as good–looking as male celebrities in the entertainment industry. No wonder the girl is so attractive; she takes after him.” “Pfft–” Julia couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
She didn’t even need to look up to know how comical Jared’s expression was at that moment. The boy extended the marshmallow to Julia again, cautiously glancing at Jared as he did, as if he were a son–in–law seeking the approval of his father–in–law.
“Uncle, I mean no harm. I want to be friends with your daughter,” the boy explained nervously. Jared’s face remained tense, his expression menacing. He reached out and picked up Julia, who was still trying to stifle her laughter and hugged her tightly. “She’s my wife!”
When Jared uttered these words, everyone was taken aback.
“What’s going on? Are they really married? It can’t be, can it? There must be a significant age gap between them, maybe even a decade or more!”
“Perhaps it’s a second marriage?”
“A second marriage? It’s possible, but the girl looks barely eighteen at most. Is this man out of his mind? How could he let such a young girl marry?”
“Lower your voices. It’s their business. Speaking like that could get you in trouble. Focus on your children and ensure they don’t get into trouble at such a young age.”
Feeling the icy aura emanating from Jared, Julia quickly led him into the amusement park, worried that if they lingered, he might lose his temper.
“Puff–puff “Julia continued to suppress her laughter.
Jared’s face was as dark as a storm cloud. As he looked at the girl, trying not to laugh, he felt a mixture of irritation and helplessness.
“Am I really that old?” he mused, contemplating their seven–year age difference. At 30, he was older than Julia, who was 23.

“Why don’t you answer my question? Are you accepting it?” When Jared posed this query, his chest heaved uncontrollably.
He had tried his best to contain himself, but the thought of Julia disliking him for his age was
difficult to suppress.
“How could that be?” Julia responded honestly.
“Are you trying to reassure me?”
“No, really, why would I lie to you? Look at you. Even at 30, you have no wrinkles around your eyes. People may consider you my elder, but that doesn’t mean you’re old.” “Oh? Explain,” Jared prompted.
