Chapter 249: Let Julia Play the Piano on Stage
“Who do
you think you are? You think I’d do it just because you ordered me to repeat my words?” Julia mocked and subtly rolled her eyes.
Candace‘ s was turning uglier and uglier by second.
Suddenly, she let out a mocking chuckle. “You just don’t want to say it again. Coward!”
Julia raised a brow. She showed her a playful expression and said, “Fine. Since you enjoy hearing me point out your flaws, I’ll say it again.”
“Candace, you‘ re like a living mirror,” she started. “No. Actually, it’s a living wall. If anyone bumps into you, they’ll definitely suffer from a head injury.”
As soon as Julia uttered these words, someone in the crowd was unable to contain their laughter.
The silence was so palpable that the person’s laughter echoed in the hall.
Not long after, it was followed by stifled giggles around the room.
Candace fumed with anger. Her cheeks were red with embarrassment and anger toward Julia. The latter‘ s perfect body figure didn’t help, making Candace hate her even more.
How Candace wished she could flatten her!
“How about that, Candace? Do you want me to repeat it?” Julia asked with a small smirk on her face.
Candace fisted her hands tightly, ready to explode. Julia‘ s words seemed to suggest that she was asking for criticism herself.
“Carter! You heard Julia, right? She’s so rude! When did she ever dare to talk back to me before? Look at her now. Can you please stand up for me?”
‘Here we go again.‘
Julia shook her head, looking at Candace with a hint of mockery in her eyes. “You and your mother are really alike. When you‘ re in the wrong, you run to Carter and let him scold me without considering his position. Carter has nothing to do with me now. What right does he have to reprimand me?”
Julia’s words signaled the dissatisfaction among the many women listening to them.
Regardless of who was right or wrong between Julia and Carter, Candace’s words, “she never dared to talk back,” was an eye–opener.
Speaking of which, Julia had once been Candace’s future sister–in–law. With Candace being the older one than Julia, they could only imagine what Julia’s life was like with the Ross family
before.
Since Carter was their boss and Candace was their boss‘ sister, they didn’t dare to say such things in their minds and kept mum about it.
If anyone dared to say it out loud, they would probably leave after the annual meeting.
Although no one said anything, Carter and Candace could still sense the awkward atmosphere in
the room.
“Hmph!” Candace audibly sneered. “Julia, it’s been years since we last spoke, and I’m quite surprised at how brave you‘ ve become! If you think I don’t know the purpose behind your words today, think again. You came here because you knew today was Ross Corporation’s annual meeting. You took this opportunity to sneak in, hoping to reconcile with my brother!”

Candace said these words with great certainty, feeling confident in her speculations.
Julia couldn’t be bothered to throw any rebuttal at Candace. She wanted to let them know the truth through her actions that she didn’t come here for Ross Corporation‘ s annual meeting for the North Corporation.
With that in mind, Julia turned around and marched upstairs.
“Hey! Julia! Where are you going? Are you blind? Didn’t you see the sign? That’s the venue of the North Corporation‘ s event. There are North Corporation‘ s bodyguards at the entrance. You can’t just sneak inside.” Candace‘ s voice dripped with sarcasm. She chuckled and placed her hands on her hips.

At that moment, Vivien stepped forward, appearing like some good Samaritan amidst the chaos.
“Julia, Candace, can’t you both be civil toward each other? A lot of things have happened, and now, looking back, it’s all in the past. I’ve become a mother and don’t want to dwell on past grudges. Life is short, and if you keep hating each other, it’s not worth it,” she tenderly said as she caressed her belly.
Vivien sDespite her somewhat affected demeanor, Vivien’s words undeniably earned looks of admiration from the crowd.
“Miss Vivien is really kind! No wonder our boss didn’t marry Miss Julia and chose Miss Vivien instead!”
The person who said the statement intended to compliment Vivien, but it rubbed the latter the wrong way. Vivien looked at the person with hidden annoyance.
‘What does that mean? Are they implying that I’m not as pretty as Julia?”
She discreetly glared at the employee and made a mental note to have him fired later.
“Julia, since you‘ re already here, why don’t you stay with us? I’ll play the piano for you and the guests later,” Vivien suggested.
Julia snorted. Play the piano? She initially planned to walk away without acknowledging her, but now she was intrigued by her offer.
She couldn’t remember any memory of Vivien being able to play the piano.
‘Did she know about my previous life’s skills in playing the piano and wants to challenge me?‘
However, it didn’t make sense. She was now the Julia of the Watson family, and Vivien had no clue about her past life.
Instead of heading upstairs, Julia followed Vivien to the hall and watched her sit in front of the grand piano.
It was understandable that there would be a piano at an annual meeting, but Julia wondered if Vivien had prepared for this performance in advance, even if she hadn’t had a quarrel with Candace.
It looked like Vivien had some hidden motives.
Julia scoffed. Vivien‘ s purpose for her performance was obvious–she wanted to show something
new in front of Carter.
Men would usually fall for such tactics.
Thinking about this, Julia cast a glance at Carter. As expected, the man was staring at Vivien with curiosity and astonishment.

Chapter 249. Let Julia Play the Piano on Stage
Vivien turned to Carter and gave him a sweet smile. Then, she placed her fingers on the piano and started to play.
Vivien played the Moonlight Sonata of Beethoven.
In Julia‘ s opinion, her technique was passable but not exemplary. It was barely listenable, but her exaggerated and occasionally flirtatious gestures, along with the touching melody of the classical piece, moved Carter undoubtedly.
Julia propped her elbow on the table and rested her chin on her palm. She raised her eyebrows slightly.
From the beginning, she had known that Vivien had skills in charming men.
Carter wasn’t stupid. In fact, he was smart. After all, he was able to manage the Ross
Corporation so well.
The fact that Carter was head over heels for Vivien, even forgetting the life–saving favor she had bestowed upon him, was undoubtedly related to Vivien‘ s manipulative charm.
A round of applause filled the entire room as soon as Vivien finished her performance. It was then followed by a chorus of praises from the audience.
“No wonder Mr. Ross married her! She’s beautiful and talented.”
“Yeah! I’ve studied music before, and Ms. Vivien played really well. She’s almost on par my music teacher back in college.

“Now, I understand why our boss chose Ms. Vivien. Julia Watson is just a pretty face.”

The endless praises for Vivien and the criticism against Julia were music to Vivien s ears. She looked at Carter, who, in return, gave her a soft smile.
Vivien’s heart jumped in happiness. She had achieved her goal.
Little did they know, she diligently practiced playing the piano for months, just for this moment. Vivien’s eyes shifted to Julia. Initially, she had only one goal tonight, but now that Julia was present, she couldn’t miss any opportunity to make the woman look bad.
