All of a sudden, Julia woke up!
“Jared! Don’t!” she yelled, successfully stopping the man’s next move.
“That was close!”
She would have been in serious trouble today if she had been even a little slower.
Jared’s forehead was covered in sweat or perhaps droplets of water. His brows were tightly furrowed as he stared at her.
He looked like a hungry beast that finally saw food on the table but was warned not to touch it. Who knew how much willpower he had to use to control himself?
If he was an ordinary man who faced such a situation with the person he liked, it would be almost impossible for him to control his urge.
Jared’s pale face transformed to being red, like a balloon inflated to the extreme, ready to explode at any moment.
“Julia, am I really that bad?”
Jared’s voice was hoarse and deep, like a thirsty traveler trapped in the desert coaxing her. Julia’s heart almost melted. She almost agreed to what had happened that night.
Julia knew that no one treated her better than Jared.
The better he treated her, the more cautious she had to be. Right now, she wasn’t sure about her feelings anymore.
Compared to before, perhaps she felt a little bit of affection towards him. However, she couldn’t tell if it was pure infatuation or something else.
If she were to agree to be intimate with Jared without thinking and later found out that she didn’t have those feelings for him at all, forcing herself to be with him would go against her
nature.
If she left him like that, wouldn’t she become a heartless woman who used and dropped people whenever she felt like it?
Not to mention that she regretted what happened on that rainy night.
Fortunately, Jared had a high fever and had forgotten about it. Otherwise, she wouldn’t know what to do.
“You‘ re not bad, Jared…” she replied with furrowed brows. “It’s just that I can’t be as good to you as you are to me.”
Jared shook his head. “It’s fine. I don’t mind at all as long as you stay by my side.”
‘How could he be fine with that?‘ Julia thought. ‘Any person would mind, so why wouldn’t he?‘
However, love was never about forcing someone.
Julia didn’t have that kind of feeling for him, so what could she do?
Just like before, Jared had an impression that a lot of wealthy young women fancied him. They liked him so much that they were willing to change for him and tried to please him. In the end, Jared remained uninterested.
Was it his responsibility to like them back? Would he appear as a jerk if he didn’t reciprocate

He perfectly understood Julia’s position because he could put himself in her shoes.
However, that didn’t mean that he would give up on her.
He had already made up his mind. Julia was his, and no one could take her away from him. Even if she would never fall in love with him in this lifetime, she was still his.
Call him selfish or possessive, and he didn’t care.
As long as he could keep her by his side, he wouldn’t care about anything else.
“But, I… I haven’t made up my mind yet. I can‘ t… promise you right now,” Julia said before meeting his gaze.
She bit her lower lip. ‘Should I be speaking like this? I should put my leg down first, right?”
‘Am I this shameless?”
As if he could read her thoughts, Jared lowered his head and looked down in her direction.
“Jared Brooks! You jerk!” Julia screamed at the top of her lungs. Her face turned as red as blood. Her dagger eyes pierced through him.
‘This man’s skin is definitely thicker than the corner of the city wall!‘ she fumingly thought.
‘No! A hundred times thicker than any wall!‘
Jared reluctantly withdrew his gaze and put down Julia‘ s leg. He grabbed a towel from the side and covered her. Disappointment was clearly evident on Jared’s face when the towel enveloped her entire body.
Julia didn’t miss the expression on Jared’s face. Her lips curled into a small smile, and she didn’t say anything.
If she had known, she wouldn’t have come. Before, she thought that Maddie must have been thoroughly taken advantage of by Henry.
Now, it would be her turn.
She was different from Maddie, though. She didn’t have ulterior motives and didn’t have a lot of concerns.
“Change into a new swimsuit,” Jared ordered as he got out of the pool.
Julia blinked, even though she regretted coming and almost being taken advantage of by Jared. But since she had come, wouldn’t she be at a disadvantage if she didn’t swim?
In the end, Julia changed into a less revealing and flashy swimsuit. After all, no matter how revealing it was, it was still better than without any cover.
Time passed quickly. The next thing Julia knew, the holiday season was almost approaching.
While the North Corporation was preparing for its annual meeting, Carter’s company was also gearing up for its own event.
Coincidentally, both companies were hosting their annual meetings at the same hotel. North Corporation was on the second floor, and Ross Corporation was on the first floor.
“Where are you?” Jared asked Julia on the phone.
“I’m almost there,” Julia replied as she got out of the taxi.

“Okay. I’ll come down and meet you at the entrance,” Jared said with finality.
“You‘ re busy with work, Jared. I heard from Joseph that you have a lot on your plate today. I’m already here at the hotel entrance, and it’s just on the second floor. Even a three–year–old kid won’t get lost in here.”
Julia decided to attend the North Corporation’s annual meeting on behalf of Jared.
She hadn’t been to such a huge event in a long time, and since she had nothing else to do, she agreed to Jared’s invitation. Plus, there surely would be a lot of delicious food, so she couldn’t resist such an opportunity.
Just as Julia was thinking this, a familiar manly voice suddenly echoed behind her.
“Long time no see, Julia. How have you been lately?”
Julia immediately grimaced when she heard the man’s voice.
She reluctantly turned around and faced Carter, dressed in a black suit.
“Carter. I’m doing great. Actually, I have never been happier in my life!” She exclaimed, not hiding the sarcasm in her voice. It was as if she was telling him how unhappy she had been when they were still together.
“Julia?” A feminine voice sounded.
Julia’s gaze shifted beside Carter and found a woman looking at her with narrowed eyes.
It was Candace Ross, Carter‘ s younger sister.
She had been studying abroad for over a year, focusing on her postgraduate entrance exams, which was why she hadn’t returned to America.
“It’s really you. It’s been over a year, and you’ve changed so much.”
Julia’s facial features remained the same, but her clothing, hairstyle, and overall aura were far different when Candace first met her.
She exuded confidence and a mysterious allure that left people curious about her.
“This is my brother‘ s ex? The same person who was aloof and obedient? The woman I bossed. around before?‘
Julia glanced at Candace‘ s chest. “Yup. It’s been over a year, and you‘ re still as flat as a board, Candace. Nothing grew at all.”
Candace’s face turned red. “You little piece of–say it again!”
Candace had always been sensitive about her chest, which was why she became infuriated when Julia openly pointed it out.
Not to mention, they were at the company’s annual meeting with many eyes watching them.
