Chapter 245: Henry Shamelessly Enters Maddie’s Room
Drawn toward the commotion, Julia and Conrad turned their attention to the bathroom. Henry and Maddie had been making noise nonstop since early in the morning.
“The bathroom floor is slippery. I’m just worried you might fall.” Henry justified going into the bathroom with Maddie.
Maddie was dumbfounded, looking at him with incredulous eyes.
“Slippery?!” She exclaimed, then skidded her foot back and forth to make a point.
“Slippery? Where? Tell me where it’s slippery—”
But her excessive enthusiasm got the best of her. Maddie skidded her foot a bit too far and lost her balance. She fell backward and almost hit the floor. Fortunately, Henry was there to catch her in his arms.
Maddie silently gasped. Her eyes were wide, and her heart was beating fast.
‘What the heck!”
Yeah, it scared the living daylights out of her.
“Oh, I see what you’re doing here. You slipped on purpose to get me to hug you, huh?” Henry teased, holding her up in a tightly close embrace.
Maddie fumed and felt like thrashing someone’s face.
“On purpose, my foot!” She yelled to his face and tried to push him away.
However, Henry ignored her foul protests and continued, “If you wanted me to pamper you, you could’ve just told me. There’s no need for these mind games.”
“Mind game, my ass!” Maddie snarled, hitting him in the chest.
“Don’t be shy. Come on! Call me darling.” Henry winked, grinning brightly.
Maddie’s eyebrows creased with disgust, and she punched Henry’s chest.
“Ouch!” she cried out immediately, “My hand!”
Maddie shook her hand in pain and rolled her eyes at Henry.
“Why are you so hard?” she complained.
With pride, Henry raised his shirt, confidently thumping his chest with his clenched fist, the sound echoing in a rhythmic “thud, thud, thud.”
“Feel that? It’s your privilege, your good fortune,” he declared, sporting a smug grin.
Maddie stayed quiet, her expression unreadable.
“I really have to use the bathroom, so please, leave!” Maddie’s voice quivered, clearly struggling to contain her urgent need.
Seeing Maddie’s predicament, Henry decided to stop the teasing and cautiously stepped back. With a forceful slam, Maddie closed the door, narrowly avoiding a collision with Henry’s nose. “That was pretty intense, but I dig it,” he remarked with a chuckle.
Julia sighed at their comical skit, rolling her eyes and not taking it anymore. It’s a good thing her brother was by her side. If not, who knows what she could have done?

decided to take Maddie with me today. Do you have any objections?” Henry’s words were laden with an unspoken challenge. Despite Conrad and Maddie’s usual modest behavior, an extended arrangement like this could potentially lead to unforeseen complications.
Far from being naive, Conrad could tell what Henry truly meant.
“I’ve always regarded Maddie as a sister figure. Whether she chooses to stay with me or move out, it’s entirely her own decision.”
“Very well, then. I’ll head upstairs and start packing her things,” Henry responded.
Julia raised an eyebrow and protested, “Shouldn’t you be discussing this with Maddie first?”
“What’s there to discuss?” Henry retorted.
“She’s my wife, and wives should heed their husbands. That’s how we’ve come to our understanding.”
With those words, Henry turned his back to them and went upstairs.
“Henry! Just who do you think you are? Touch my stuff, and you’ll have a real problem!” Maddie stormed angrily toward the stairs.
Seeing Maddie in this fiery state struck Henry with fear.
“My dear, please, let’s not get upset. Remember, there are three precious babies in your belly.” “They’re mine, not yours!” Maddie shot back.
“It’s ours, sweetheart,” Henry insisted, consciously watching out in case she tripped. But Maddie wasn’t having any of his bullshit.
“Ours? Yeah, right.” Maddie stomped her foot in anger, almost tripping herself again.
“Oh!” The three exclaimed. Fortunately, Conrad got a hold of her.
Afraid of anything worse, Henry didn’t touch any of Maddie’s stuff in the end.
During lunchtime, Maddie casually dropped a shrimp onto Conrad’s plate and said, “Hey, Conrad, you’ve been looking out for me lately. Thanks for all your help.”
Julia couldn’t help but sense a familiar tension in the air as Maddie spoke. Was it the tang of vinegar or a hint of gunpowder? Without even lifting her gaze, Julia knew precisely who was the source of this unmistakable vibe.
Unquestionably, Henry was the culprit. Julia finally looked over at Henry, who sat across from her. He was squinting at Maddie, his gaze almost predatory.
Watching Henry, Julia couldn’t help but think of Jared. Both of them, being childhood friends, seemed to share the same jealous streak. Maddie was in for a tough time, without a doubt.
As a good friend and drawing from her past experiences, Julia felt giving Maddie a subtle warning was prudent. If Henry’s jealousy escalated, Maddie might find herself in a difficult situation. Julia discreetly nudged Maddie with her elbow.
“Huh?” taken by surprise, Maddie looked at Julia.
Julia tilted slightly toward the opposite side without saying a word.
Following Julia’s nod, Maddie’s gaze landed on Henry’s brooding face, and she immediately grasped the situation.
‘Why should I care if he’s jealous? He’s not important to me.’
Maddie brushed off the tension and teased Henry further in a playful manner by placing a piece

“Conrad, can I work at your company after I have the baby? Being stuck at home all day is so dull.” “Maddie!” Henry finally lost his patience and slammed his hand on the table, his voice strained as he addressed her.
“What’s the matter? Why are you scolding me? Scared of a little competition?” Maddie placed her hands on her hips, fearlessly locking eyes with Henry.
The atmosphere suddenly got more intense.
Julia shot a glance at the innocent Conrad, who shook his head helplessly, finding himself caught in an undeserved whirlwind.
Henry pushed his plate toward Maddie a minute later and casually said, “Pass me some veggies.”
With hands on her hips and unwilling to back down, Maddie responded with sass, “Oh really? You just order me around, and I’m supposed to jump? Dream on.”
With a hint of childishness, Henry threatened, “If you don’t serve me food today, I won’t eat.”
Maddie brushed off the threat with indifference. “Childish! Whether you eat or not isn’t my concern. I won’t be the one going hungry.”
Henry’s next comment, however, left the living room in stunned silence. “If I don’t eat today, I’ll eat you!”
Julia and Conrad exchanged a quick glance, then wisely buried their heads in their meals with perfect synchronization.
Maddie’s face turned as red as a beet as if she might actually start oozing blood. “You… you shameless-”
“What’s wrong with being shameless? Besides, who was the one clinging to me like an octopus earlier, almost-”
“That’s enough! Henry! Say one more word, and you’re in trouble!” Maddie’s embarrassment was palpable, and she wished she could vanish into thin air. If Henry kept talking, he might provide a graphic play–by–play.
Henry might be shameless, but Maddie still had a hint of dignity left. “Fine! I’ll serve you some veggies,” she muttered, reluctantly giving in.
Henry, ever cheerful, pressed on, “I’ll need a piece of chicken too.”
Maddie was left momentarily speechless. She rolled her eyes and muttered as she got him his chicken.
After dinner, Maddie had just cracked her bedroom door open when Henry audaciously squeezed his way inside.
