Chapter 243: Waiting for Her to Like Me
Jared’s face remained a picture of composure despite the bombshell question from Julia. He slightly furrowed his brow and then calmly pointed at Shiloh, much to everyone’s confusion.
“I bought it for him,” he stated plainly.
Julia’s eyes widened in surprise, and she swiveled to look at Shiloh, a teasing glint in her gaze. With those words, all her worries instantly vanish into thin air. And for that moment, she hated how her mind conjured all the possible worst–case scenarios. Perhaps, it was just her hormones working.

Julia turned her attention to Shiloh with a wry smile. “Shiloh, you’ve been quite the hidden talent, haven’t you? I always thought you were a lone wolf, but now, look at all this… development. Things are moving fast, aren’t they?”
Shiloh stammered, caught off guard by the unexpected spotlight on his recent activities. “No, I—”
Before he could offer an explanation, Jared interrupted him with a stern glance, a silent warning to tread carefully.
Confusion swirled within Shiloh’s mind. What in the world was happening? The sudden shift in dynamics left him utterly perplexed, and he couldn’t help but wonder how these revelations would affect the relationships in the household.
So he decided to confront his brother. After dinner, Shiloh approached Jared for a private
conversation.
“Brother, what’s going on? Are you keeping something from me?”
Jared’s expression grew solemn. “Since you’ve asked, it is time for me to let you in on something.”
He looked Shiloh in the eye and spoke earnestly, “You must not tell her what happened in the car that night.”
Shiloh’s eyes widened in shock. Before Jared could clarify, Shiloh’s imagination ran wild. “You mean, she doesn’t know what you did that night, and you’re ”
“Lower your voice,” Jared interrupted, casting a wary glance toward the closed door. His caution confirmed Shiloh’s suspicion: Julia was indeed in the dark about that night.
“Brother, I don’t understand,” Shiloh admitted, his bewilderment growing. The dynamics between Jared and Julia were sometimes intimate, sometimes perplexing.
Jared’s brow furrowed, a trace of sadness shadowing his features. It was a side of him Shiloh rarely witnessed. In the face of adversity, Jared had always remained steadfast.
Shiloh knew his brother well enough to recognize that pushing him for answers would be futile. So he waited, patiently, for Jared to gather his thoughts and share the truth when he was ready.
Three minutes passed before Jared decided it was time to share the matter with Shiloh. His primary concern was that Shiloh might accidentally let the secret slip.
“I am merely waiting for her, waiting for her to like me,” Jared finally revealed.
Shiloh was taken aback.
“What?” He asked in utter incredulity. “She hasn’t fallen in love with you yet? Aren’t you two already together?”
Jared shook his head, meeting Shiloh’s gaze. “Aren’t you curious why I entrusted the Little Jade Statue to Julia for safekeeping?”

“Why?” Shiloh had asked this before, but Jared had avoided answering at the time.
Jared retrieved a contract from the drawer, the one year agreement he had signed with Julia. As Shiloh read it, he was left nearly speechless.
“Oh
my God! This…”
Shiloh struggled to find the right words to express his disbelief at the situation. Despite their complicated relationship, Julia’s desire to leave had caught him off guard. Jared, on the other hand, found himself ensnared in a whirlpool of emotions, resorting to a contractual agreement to ensure Julia’s stay.
It was a perplexing situation for Shiloh. Heck, he could not even fathom how his brother, the illustrious head of the Brooks Family and the wealthiest man in Monroe City, was not only strikingly handsome but also possessed an unmatched charisma, and was so obsessed with her. Countless affluent women had vied for his affection, yet it was Julia who held his heart humbly. “Brother, what I’m about to say might not sit well with you,” Shiloh began cautiously.
Jared, anticipating Shiloh’s sentiment, responded, “Then don’t say it.”
But Shiloh couldn’t contain his thoughts. He hesitated for a moment before continuing, “You find it odd, don’t you? If Julia truly wanted to leave, why did she sign such an agreement with you. regarding the Little Jade Statue?”
Shiloh couldn’t help but question the situation. He saw through the complexity of it all, Jared remained trapped in his tumultuous emotions, struggling to make sense of Julia’s intentions.
while
Indeed, Julia’s complexity runs deeper than what meets the eye. Beyond her outward appearance, she possesses exceptional medical skills and carries the distinction of being the disciple of a renowned and miraculous doctor. Her multifaceted abilities and background add layers of intrigue to her character, making her a far more intricate and fascinating individual than one might initially assume.
Jared asserted, “She won’t harm me,” and his unwavering trust in Julia evident in his eyes and demeanor.
Shiloh didn’t buy it. However he saw through the situation, and he knew that Jared was trapped in his emotions.
Shiloh scratched his head. “I don’t think Julia intends to harm you either. If she did, she would have done it long ago. There’d be no need to wait until now or maintain this agreement. She could just take the Little Jade Statue and leave.”
The conversation took a turn. “I just can’t figure out her motive. What is she trying to achieve?” Shiloh echoed Jared’s own curiosity.
During this period, Jared had conducted secret investigations, but the results yielded almost no useful clues. The study fell into a contemplative silence.
Shiloh, in the midst of handing the contract back to Jared, noticed something highly irregular. He couldn’t believe his eyes. “100 years?! Julia signed a 100–year agreement with you?”
Considering what Jared had just revealed about Julia temporarily holding the Little Jade Statue, a 100–year contract seemed illogical. Shiloh scrutinized the document more closely and realized that the two “0“s behind the “1” appeared unnaturally close together. By the standard format, there should have been only one “1” within such a narrow space.
As he pieced this together, Shiloh’s realization hit him like a thunderbolt. He was left

flabbergasted, his emotions shifting rapidly.
The next day, Philip’s bodyguards loitered near the villa, sleepless throughout the night. What were they expecting? Philip himself had barely slept, consumed by thoughts of J&C Limited and the Purple Garden Manor. Sleep was out of the question.
“Are they coming out?” Philip asked, tense.
“All set!” the bodyguard whispered.
Philip, Nathalia, and Yasmin huddled around the video phone, their anticipation palpable. Through the screen’s lens, they observed Julia as she emerged from the villa, her graceful presence in stark contrast to the man accompanying her, who appeared to be in his sixties. The elderly man had a distinguished air about him, his silver hair neatly combed back and his posture upright, a testament to his years of experience. He wore a finely tailored suit that exuded an aura of authority and wealth. Lines etched on his face hinted at a life rich with stories and wisdom, and his eyes held a twinkle of shrewd intelligence.
Yasmin couldn’t resist a comment, her face oozing with thinly veiled sarcasm as she remarked, “He does look quite elderly, doesn’t he?”
As Julia and the older man engaged in conversation, their words were too distant to decipher clearly. Their body language, however, suggested a respectful and meaningful exchange. Eventually, Julia bid farewell to the elderly man and gracefully got into her car. With the engine’s purr, she drove away, leaving the distinguished gentleman behind, adding an intriguing layer of mystery to their encounter.
“Let’s head there,” Philip declared.
Before long, Philip arrived at the Benison Villa and approached the servants in the yard.
“Hello, I’m Julia’s father. I’d like to meet the owner of this villa. I have something of utmost importance to discuss.”
The servant, unable to make this decision, summoned Mr. Walker.
Philip immediately recognized Mr. Walker as the same person he had seen on the video call earlier.
