Chapter 228: Dear, Wake Up
Randel’s question left Julia in a dilemma, her thoughts swirling as she tried to put her feelings into words.
“Well, how should I put it? He’s very good to me,” she replied vaguely, her answer reflecting her complex emotions.
“I can see that,” Randel interjected, understanding that the dynamics between Julia and Jared were far from straightforward.
“But…” Julia’s brows furrowed even more as she struggled to articulate her feelings. “When it comes to matters of the heart, it’s not just about who likes whom. It’s more complicated than
that.”
“So, you
don’t have those kinds of feelings for him?” Randel inquired, pressing gently.
Julia scratched her nape, and her uncertainty was evident. “I’m not sure. Maybe? Or maybe I can’t be as good to him as he is to me.”
The more Julia talked, the more she felt that this situation seemed unfair to Jared. She didn’t want it to be like that, just as she had said earlier. But she pondered, ‘If someone is good to you and likes you, does that mean you have to reciprocate it? Would you be a bad person if you didn’t? That doesn’t seem right. Feelings are meant to be spontaneous.’”
“In that case, why are you still together now? Haven’t you already taken revenge for what needed to be avenged?” Randel asked with a puzzled expression.
‘Because of the little jade statue,‘ Julia answered mentally. She couldn’t get herself to reveal that to Randel. Thus, she made up a reason.
“It’s because of some agreements, so I can’t leave his side for the time being.”
Not wanting to continue this topic, she changed the subject, looking at Randel and saying, “You should lie down first. I haven’t finished treating your injuries yet.
“Alright,” Randel agreed, recognizing that some topics were best left untouched for now.
In the dimly lit room, Julia lay in bed, tossing and turning, her mind filled with the day’s events.
It wasn’t until around midnight that Jared arrived, as he had promised. As had become their nightly routine, he slipped into bed beside her and pulled her into his protective embrace.
Julia, however, pretended to be deeply asleep, her body perfectly still, as she waited for Jared to fall asleep himself. A while later, she could feel his steady breath against her face, a reassuring sign that he had indeed drifted into slumber.
Carefully, Julia tested the waters, pretending to shift slightly in her feigned sleep, One minute passed, and Jared showed no signs of waking up. It seemed he was truly sound asleep.
Julia withdrew her hand from beneath the covers, slipping it inside his clothing. Her fingers closed around the cool, smooth surface of the little jade statue.
Suddenly, the familiar voice rang in her mind again.
‘Juju, this is the treasure your parents left for you, and the password is…
The voice ended at this point, so Julia didn’t know what the password was.
‘Is it a birthdate? Probably not. If it were, it would have been deciphered long ago,‘ Julia thought, gently caressing the smooth surface of the little jade statue.
As memories and dreams continued to resurface, she grew more convinced that she might indeed

be Juju. When she was a child, she woke up in an orphanage with a high fever, unable to recall her past. However, there was one memory that had always haunted her during that time–whenever she saw fire, she would tremble and cry. She didn’t understand why back then, but now, all the pieces seemed to connect.
Suppose she indeed was Juju. In that case, her fear of fire had a logical explanation. However, these were just assumptions and speculations, with no concrete evidence to prove her true identity.
And then there was Randel. She sensed his longing for Juju, a deep–rooted persistence that tugged at her heart.
Lost in her thoughts, Julia drifted into a dream.
In the dream, a young Juju ran up to Randel, her bright eyes filled with curiosity. “What’s your name?” Juju asked, her voice full of innocence. It was their first meeting, and little Juju didn’t yet know Randel’s name.
Randel held a candy wrapper that Juju had just given him, unable to bear to throw it away. “My name is Randel,” he replied, his voice gentle.
Just then, Juju’s parents walked over.
“Randel, we’ve completed the adoption procedures. Starting today, you’re our child, and you’ll be called Juno from now on,” her father announced with a warm smile.
Randel obediently nodded, his eyes filled with trust and a hint of vulnerability.
Juju, with her bright eyes, looked at her parents. “Mommy, Daddy, does that mean he’s part of our family now?” she asked, curious.
“Yes, that’s right,” her mother affirmed, kneeling down to level her daughter. “You’ve always wanted a little brother, right? You wanted a playmate.”
Pouting slightly, Juju admitted, “But I wanted a little brother, not a big brother!”
As she spoke, Juju’s eyes darted around, her gaze landing on Randel, who was taller and older than she was.
“I arrived here first,” she declared, determination in her voice. “So, according to the ‘first come, first served‘ rule, I’ll be your big sister, and you’ll be my little brother, okay?”
Juju’s words made the young couple burst into laughter.
“Juno, you’re several years older than her and much taller. Is it okay with you to be called little brother by her?” Juju’s father asked.
Randel replied with a smile, “Yeah. It’s fine with me.”
Juju reached out and patted Randel’s head. “It’s decided. From now on, I’m your big sister, and I’ll call you Randy Watson.”
Once again, Juju’s words filled the young couple with laughter, making the atmosphere in the living room warm and happy.
“Randy Watson,” Julia whispered softly, her words barely audible.
Jared, who had just gotten up and was now getting dressed, suddenly heard Julia’s murmuring. He turned to look at her, his brows furrowed with curiosity. ‘What did she just say?‘ he wondered.
“I’m hungry,” Julia added, her voice a bit more audible this time.
Hearing this, a fond yet helpless smile appeared on Jared’s face. He leaned closer to Julia and

placed a gentle kiss on her lips.
The kiss was somewhat forceful and immediately woke Julia from her slumber. Her eyes widened in surprise as she stared at Jared, momentarily unsure if it was a dream or reality.
It wasn’t until she saw the look of intense enjoyment in his eyes that she belatedly realized, “This isn’t a dream!”
Julia pushed Jared away, her eyes filled with incredulity. “What are you doing?” she exclaimed.
“You were talking in your sleep,” Jared replied calmly, as if nothing unusual had happened. “Huh? I was? Even so, what does that have to do with you kissing me?” Julia asked, still baffled by
his actions.
“You said you were hungry,” Jared explained with a hint of a mischievous smile.
Julia paused, utterly perplexed. ‘I said I was hungry, so he kissed me?‘ She found Jared’s logic both amusing and unexpected.
Anyone who uttered such dream talk could be interpreted as being actually hungry, not in some abstract sense. Jared’s actions left her wondering about his newfound boldness.
‘Is he losing his innocence?‘ Julia thought, remembering how he used to be sneakier in his affections. Now, he was openly kissing her awake with a surprising degree of enthusiasm.
Julia decided it was time to give Jared a friendly warning. If things continued in this direction, she couldn’t predict what boundaries he might push.
“Jared, we need to discuss something,” Julia said seriously.
“Sure, go ahead,” Jared replied, sitting across from Julia, his shirt still unbuttoned and a look of anticipation in his eyes.
