Chapter 218: Vivien Was Almost Scared to Death
Puzzled by Henry’s sudden appearance, Carter called, “Young Master Henry Miles?!”
“What do you mean? Why did you call him Young Master Miles?” Lilian and Vivien exchanged puzzled glances, their expressions mirroring their confusion.
Carter swiftly descended the stairs, extending a warm greeting, “Mr. Miles, please have a seat.” Lilian couldn’t contain her curiosity. “Carter, do you know him?”
With a hint of reverence, Carter introduced, “This is Mr. Miles, the eldest son of Xonix Film and Television Company.”
Xonix Film and Television? The name sent shockwaves through Lilian and Vivien. Xonix was a powerhouse in the country’s film and television industry, far surpassing the Ross Group in stature and influence. Their bewilderment deepened. How could someone of Henry’s stature be in their home, and why had he just confronted their bodyguard? Clearly, this was more than a casual visit. Furthermore, they had missed what Henry had said earlier; their attention had waned.
“Young Master Miles, what brings you here?” Carter inquired, trying to discern Henry’s intent. As businessmen, what else could they discuss but business? The prospect excited Carter almost too visibly,
Henry retrieved his mobile phone, revealing the screensaver featuring Maddie. “She’s my wife. I believe you can guess the reason for my visit now, can’t you?”
Vivien’s face drained of color, and her legs wobbled, causing her to stumble back several steps, hitting the staircase handrail before steadying herself.
Lilian and Carter, equally taken aback, stared at the person displayed on Henry’s phone in disbelief. It was Maddie, Julia’s closest friend. The pieces were starting to fall into place.
“How is this possible?” Vivien exclaimed.
Maddie didn’t possess the same level of attractiveness as him, nor did she boast remarkable talents. She was simply an ordinary girl. How had she suddenly ascended to the position of Xonix- Film and Television’s young mistress? It seemed almost incredulous.
But now wasn’t the time to dwell on shock. Vivien had nearly caused Maddie to stumble earlier in the day, and Henry’s presence indicated he had come to address that incident. Vivien needed to provide an explanation promptly.
“Young Master Miles, I genuinely didn’t intend any harm,” Vivien pleaded, feigning a pitiable demeanor with tear–filled eyes. “The situation was extremely chaotic at the time. It was purely coincidental that Maddie tripped over my lap. It was truly just an accident!”
Lilian chimed in, coming to Vivien’s defense. “Certainly! Young Master Miles, please don’t misunderstand Vivien. Our Vivien’s family is renowned for their kindness. Your wife is pregnant; she would never do such a thing deliberately.”
As she spoke, Lilian suddenly had an epiphany and raised her voice. “Julia! She must be the one who poisoned your perception, right? Young Master Miles, you can’t rely on Julia’s one–sided accounts! That girl harbors malicious thoughts. Back when she was my son’s fiancée, she even pushed me into the water. Can someone like her be trusted?”
Henry gazed at the impassioned family before him, shaking his head in disbelief. He proceeded to unlock his phone once more.
“I knew you wouldn’t admit it, so before I came, I took the liberty of reviewing the surveillance

footage from the incident.”
With a click, he opened the playback.
The surveillance footage was magnified and slowed down, leaving no room for doubt. It clearly captured Vivien wearing a stern smile as she deliberately extended her foot to obstruct Maddie. The actions were unmistakable, and when coupled with the malevolent smirk on Vivien’s face, it left no doubt that her acts were intentional.
Lilian’s
eyes nearly popped out of her head. She was left utterly stunned, struggling to believe what she had just witnessed. In her mind, Vivien had always epitomized sensibility and kindness, qualities that far surpassed Julia’s. Yet, Vivien had committed such a heartless act. It was beyond comprehension for Lilian. Was this indeed Vivien she had known all along?
On the other hand, Carter was even more overwhelmed by shock and a whirlwind of complex emotions. This revelation left him utterly speechless, unable to express his feelings.
Maintaining his unwavering expression, Henry turned his attention to Vivien, demanding, “What is your defense now?”
Vivien had noticed the shifting expressions on Carter and Lilian’s faces, and she found herself at a loss for words as she tried to explain her actions. Instinctively, she denied any wrongdoing. “I didn’t, I-”
“You didn’t?” Henry cut in, his tone growing colder. “Are you suggesting that Billy went to the trouble of fabricating this video just to frame you?”
Before Vivien could respond, Henry’s demeanor suddenly shifted, his presence becoming more imposing.
“As the young master of the esteemed Miles family, do you think I would squander my time and energy on someone as inconsequential as you?” Henry’s words struck the hearts of both Carter and Lilian.
The possibility of Henry fabricating the video seemed almost non–existent, as he had emphasized earlier. Given his background, dealing with Vivien would be as effortless as squashing an ant. There was no need to resort to such elaborate measures.
The inevitable conclusion hung heavily in the air–the video was genuine.
Vivien had undeniably committed the heartless act.
“You deceived me, Vivien!” Carter clenched his teeth, his voice filled with anger and accusation.
“I… I…” Vivien stammered, lost for words, her gaze shifting to Lilian in a plea for assistance.
Lilian furrowed her brows, torn between her desire to support Vivien and the realization that Vivien had wronged Henry’s wife. If this situation escalated, it could spell dire consequences for the Ross family.
“Vivien, you’ve truly crossed a line,” Lilian remarked, her tone grave. She rarely addressed Vivien by her full name. “Starting today, you are no longer a part of the Ross family.”
The gravity of Lilian’s words sent shockwaves through both Vivien and Carter. Vivien’s complexion paled, her eyes reflecting disbelief like a deer caught in the blinding headlights of an oncoming
car.
Desperate for support, Vivien turned to Carter, hoping their long–standing friendship would sway his judgment. To her dismay, Carter averted his
gaze.
Carter grappled not only with the recent video but also with memories of the video Julia had intended to play on their wedding day–the one depicting someone pushing Lilian into the water.

Could it have been Vivien who did it? If so, he had gravely misjudged Julia.
Julia had also informed him that Vivien had been feigning illness all along, that she didn’t require a blood transfusion, and that it had all been intentional. Yet, time and again, he had insisted that Julia donate blood.
During their wedding, they had taken Julia to the hospital and compelled her to donate blood to Vivien. It was from that moment that Julia had transformed, becoming a different person entirely and resisting all her might.
Contemplating these revelations, Carter could no longer contain his doubt. He turned to Vivien and posed a pointed question, “Were you the one who pushed my mother into the water?”
