Chapter 217: Henry Breaks into Carter’s Home
When Julia received Carter’s call, Jared happened to be with her. To avoid any potential. misunderstandings, Julia instinctively hung up the phone without a second thought.
On the other hand, Jared heard the sound of the call and saw that Julia declined the call. With that, his eyes partially shadowed, inquired, “Who was that calling you?”
Thinking fast, Julia quickly deflected, “Oh, it was just 10086. They already bothered me yesterday, asking me to upgrade my plan, and now they are doing it again, so I declined the call. Probably year–end tasks or something.” Then, she slipped her phone into her pocket and swiftly changed the subject, her gaze locked on Jared. “What would you like for dinner tonight? I’ll cook something special.”
Jared’s doubt persisted, and his gaze remained locked into Julia’s pocket. Her explanation hadn’t entirely convinced him, and skepticism still colored his expression.
“I promise, I’m not hiding anything,” Julia assured, retrieving her phone and revealing the recent call record to Jared, who saw what Julia had described: “10086.”
The truth was Julia had devised this clever tactic not because she wanted to deceive Jared, but because she had learned valuable lessons from their previous disputes, both of which had been triggered by Carter. In order to prevent such conflicts from happening again, she had saved Carter’s number as “10086” on her phone.
Finally convinced, Jared shifted his gaze away from Julia’s pocket. “We’ll dine out this evening, and I’ve already reserved a private room.”
“Sounds good. I’ll go upstairs and get ready,” Julia agreed.
Meanwhile, Carter sat in silence, still staring at his phone in disbelief. She still needs to answer his call? Did she despise him that much now?
Carter let out an exasperated sigh and brought a hand to his temple. He had always believed that Julia was trying to win him over with her indifference, but recent events showed that she was drifting further away from him each passing day.
Juli: [Could you please refrain from calling? What if my husband gets the wrong idea? It’s becoming quite bothersome.]
Julia’s message had left Carter’s eyes widened in surprise. After a momentary brain freeze, he couldn’t resist calling her again.
Julia sighed in exasperation, muttering to herself, “Here we go again. So annoying.”
In fact, Julia had tried to block Carter’s number before, but he kept switching to different numbers to call her. After numerous failed attempts, she had given up stopping him altogether, finding the whole situation tiresome.
Carter finally got through and began, “I have something to say.”
Julia, clearly irritated, didn’t respond.
“Julia, let me ask you, what happened between you and Vivien earlier today?”
“So, you
called me just to vent your anger about Vivien?” Julia continued, her frustration apparent. “Fine, I admit it. I confronted Vivien and even pushed her back a few times. But do you know why? Because she tripped my pregnant friend with her foot! My friend’s stomach is huge, and she could have been seriously hurt if I hadn’t intervened. So, yes, Vivien deserved it!”
Carter was taken aback. Vivien had never mentioned this incident to him or his mother. They had

accused Julia of wrongdoing without providing any context. Hearing Julia’s side of the story now, he began to piece things together.
Vivien’s actions troubled him deeply. Her attempt to bribe the doctor at the hospital to frame Julia was something he couldn’t accept. Carter also recalled the incident with the blood bag, realizing that Vivien had used such methods more than once.
The truth was becoming increasingly clear to him, and he found himself torn between his loyalty to his mother and his growing doubts about Vivien’s behavior.
Reflecting on past events, particularly those that occurred before Julia underwent a transformation, including the incident with Lilian falling into the water, Carter couldn’t help but draw parallels to the current hospital situation. He wondered if he had misunderstood Julia in the past. Could the circumstances leading up to her transformation be more complicated than he had initially thought? If so, it wasn’t surprising that Julia had become the person she was today–wholly changed.
However, Carter couldn’t simply place all the blame on Vivien based on this one incident. What if it was an isolated event unrelated to Vivien’s actions? Wouldn’t he then be unjustly hurting Vivien’s feelings?
As Carter pondered these questions, his confusion deepened. The more he reasoned, the less clarity he found in the situation.
“Carter, please, can you open the door?” Vivien’s voice, filled with sorrow, tugged at Carter’s heartstrings.
Carter remembered that he hadn’t chosen Vivien solely for her kindness. He reluctantly got up and opened the door for her. As soon as the door swung open, Vivien threw herself into Carter’s
arms.
“Carter, I know I made a terrible mistake. Please forgive me. I can’t imagine my life without you. Sob…” Vivien cried, her tears soaking Carter’s clothes.
Lilian intervened and approached them, saying, “Carter, please find it in your heart to forgive Vivien. She acted out of fear that you might misunderstand her and resorted to this desperate measure. After all, we all make mistakes. As a man, you should be more forgiving and not hold onto Vivien’s faults so tightly. Being overly rigid will make you seem petty.”
In the midst of one person sobbing in his arms and another person trying to convince him, Carter’s heart softened over time.
“Vivien,” Carter began with genuine concern, “let me ask you, did you harm a pregnant woman?” He found the idea of someone mistreating a pregnant woman repulsive.
Vivien vigorously shook her head and swore, “I never intended to harm Maddie, It was an accident; I tripped over her. Whether Maddie is pregnant or not, I would never intentionally harm her.”
Seeing the sincerity in Vivien’s eyes, Carter had no choice but to believe her.
Lilian, however, reacted with a cold snort. “That Maddie has a meaner mouth than Julia. She deserves it, too! She-”
Before Lilian could finish her sentence, a man’s voice from outside interrupted her.
“Bullying my wife and children, and you dare to say she deserves it? As Julia described, your family is a bunch of ruthless devils.”
The three of them turned their gaze towards the door in unison, their curiosity piqued. How had

someone broken into their private villa?
Carter, Lilian, and Vivien watched in astonishment as Henry kicked one of the bodyguards and strode into the villa, his hand casually tucked in his pocket.
Lilian, alarmed, yelled, “Who are you? How dare you break into a private residence! I’m calling the police!”
Carter, recognizing the newcomer, couldn’t contain his surprise. ‘Wait a minute, is that…?”
Their private villa had been unexpectedly invaded, and the presence of this unexpected guest left them all in shock.
