Chapter 188: The Sweetest Moment
Julia’s eyes widened with surprise. The images of what might have happened the previous night keep playing in her mind while also asking herself if Jared indeed did that to her.
“Last night, you were determined to undress even in a life–or–death situation. I held onto you to stop you. Yet, you persisted for a while, struggling in my arms. I didn’t let go. Maybe you struggled so much that your back is sore, and your legs are numb now,” Jared explained.
Jared didn’t tell Julia the complete truth. He feared that if he revealed what had happened last night, she might blame him and leave. This fear came from his past experience.
They had been intimate a while back, but Julia had chosen to keep it a secret from him, indicating she wasn’t ready for a more profound commitment. He respected her choice and didn’t want to burden her anymore.
So, anything that happened last night would only be buried in Jared’s mind.
“Is that all?” Julia asked, tilting her head. She knew something was wrong, yet her mind couldn’t pinpoint her in the right direction.
Was she disappointed that it was all that happened?
“Then what do you think it could be?” Jared playfully teased, using a teasing tone.
Julia blushed at the question. “Um, never mind. I’m hungry. Did you cook breakfast? What’s for this morning? Is it something that would help me sober up? I think I’m still drunk. Am I?” Julia intentionally changed the subject with so many questions.
Julia went downstairs to hide her crimson cheeks heating up out of embarrassment. She trusted Jared to be such a gentleman, but in her mind, they were doing nasty things on their bed.
Watching Julia go downstairs, holding her stomach, Jared sighed in relief. Luckily, the situation. remained hidden.
But there was something he still needed to do. With so much intimacy in his voice, he called, “Julia.”
“Huh?” Julia turned to Jared.
He raised his eyebrows and took a deep breath. Then he said, “I apologize.”
Julia was surprised, her mouth opening as she struggled for words. However, before she could respond, he continued from where he had paused. “I shouldn’t have been jealous. I believe it now. You left Carter a long time ago.”
The previous night, Julia had confronted and defeated Carter. His bruised nose, swollen face, and drunken words had revealed his true feelings.
Julia no longer had feelings for Carter. She didn’t just lack affection; she despised him.
“It’s okay, I forgive you,” Julia said, nodding slowly and smiling at Jared.
Saying this brought a sense of relief to Julia. It felt like a heavy weight had been lifted off her chest.
Jared also felt relieved, sharing in this feeling. He quickly walked down the stairs, his long legs bringing him next to Julia. Without hesitation, he lifted her up and held her.
Julia was held up high above his head. She was momentarily surprised because she had never been held like this in all her years, let alone lifted so high.
For reasons only known to him, Jared looked up at Julia at that moment. It was as if he saw her as

his entire world and even his sun. People long for things, and their hearts long even more.
When Shiloh pushed the door open, he saw this extremely dazzling scene. He almost couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
Indeed, as Henry had described, when the couple had disagreements in the bedroom, he, as an outsider, became unintentionally involved and made things awkward. Or, if he was lucky, he’d be a bystander, not even visible.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t a bystander because Julia noticed Shiloh.
“Jared Brooks, what are you doing? Please put me down. Your brother is watching.”
Jared turned his head to glance at Shiloh. Shiloh gave Jared a thumbs–up sign before returning to his room and closing the door.
Julia sighed. “Please, lower me down. I’m not a child anymore.”
Jared enjoyed holding Julia this way. He savored the sensation of having her cradled in his arms. “If you want me to put you down, just call me ‘my Jared.“”
Julia’s eyes widened. She couldn’t possibly bring herself to say such embarrassing endearment. Then he added, “Just like last night, say my name in that soft, sweet tone. I enjoy hearing it.” Jared fondly recalled Julia’s tone from last night.
The voice was velvety, intoxicating, and seductive. It was this voice that had pushed Jared past his restraint, eventually leading to their intimate encounter.
“What?” Julia was taken aback. Did she really call him that last night? And had she also addressed him in the same way?
“Are you messing with me?” Julia asked with a surprised look.
Jared just gave her a stunned look and then said, “The truth is, I’m being honest. You did call me that last night.” His voice was light, yet it carried an air of sincerity. Then he smiled at her, the most attractive smile anyone could see.
Julia couldn’t help but envision herself playfully addressing him last night, using that same tone of voice. Her face flushed. “Did anyone else hear?”
“No, just you and me.” Jared added, “In the car.”
And thinking about it, they had been close in a unique way two times before, and he couldn’t stop thinking if it might happen again.
Suddenly, Jared was focused on the thought of their bed, imagining what might come next when they used it again.
“That’s a relief,” Julia said, feeling better. “I don’t think I’d have a face to show anyone if I had called you like that in public.”
As awkward as it was, Julia would be fine if nobody else heard it.
“You can call me ‘it‘ now again. There’s no one else around.” Jared’s voice softened, his expression -full of affection as he looked at the girl suspended above him.
Julia pursed her lips, considering her options. “If I don’t use that pet name every time, will you keep holding me like this?”
Before Jutia could say anything further, Selina emerged from the kitchen with a hangover soup. Selina was momentarily surprised to see the two love birds. Still, she quickly stifled her laughter and retreated into the kitchen.

Julia sighed inwardly. “You can put me down now.”
“Oh, come on. Just say it,” Jared teased.
Julia remained silent and tried saying it. She couldn’t bring herself to do it. Before she could continue, Joseph entered with a stack of documents. He caught sight of them and promptly exited the room.
Julia’s frustration mounted. She almost laughed at how those people could be good with their timing. She knew she had to do it, or everyone in the house would witness them in such an
intimate position.
She glanced upstairs and noticed that Shiloh slightly opened the door to listen and peek at them. Julia bit her lip while thinking how she could say it without Shiloh hearing it.
Shiloh continued to watch as if he had yet to be noticed. His brother and Julia’s appearance in the house made his life exciting and full of surprises. He’s addicted to seeing how much those two love each other.
Julia did it fast while only Shiloh was still around and only some of the household members or staff.
“My Jared!” Julia’s words tumbled out rapidly, her speech slightly faltering.
Despite that, Jared found her attempt endearing. “I didn’t quite catch that. Repeat it, please.” Julia rolled her eyes and replied, “Don’t push it. If you don’t let me down, I swear I’ll—”
“Just one more time, please?” His voice was gentle, his tone coaxing.
Their current dynamic contrasted starkly with his usual high–energy and suggestive manner. This juxtaposition sent a shiver down Julia’s spine.
Thus, she couldn’t resist shouting that endearment once more.
