Chapter 181: Is She Still Mad?
Turns out, that call wasn’t from Jared after all but from Alexander.
Because of that, Julia’s eyelids dropped, and a touch of sadness crept into her eyes.
What was she hoping for, anyway?
To her, she didn’t have any romantic feelings for Jared, so after thinking about it, she realized it might be because she had spent so much time with him that being apart suddenly felt strange.
Indeed, habits can be pretty scary.
When the incoming call went on for over a minute, Julia finally picked up.
“Hey, can you make it to KTV tomorrow night? You missed your birthday celebration last time, so some of us want to make it up.”
“Tomorrow night?”
“Yeah! Is everything okay? You got plans?”
Julia’s lips twitched, and after a moment of silence, she said, “I’m free, so tomorrow night it is.” Initially, Julia had intended to head back home the next day, but she felt leaving so soon might be awkward. So, why not extend her time outside for a bit?
After all, time tends to ease things. Maybe in a few days, today’s events will fade away naturally. After ending the call, Julia scrolled through her screen. When she found Jared’s contact, she hesitated.
After a quick pause, Julia opened her WhatsApp, but there weren’t any new messages. “Ah, forget it! Time to sleep! I ate and had a good drink, so I must call it a night.”
Having muttered this to herself, Julia closed her eyes, ready to doze off.
Meanwhile, Jared held his phone, contemplating dialing “Wife’s” number. His finger hovered over the “call” button, but after a hesitant moment, he decided against pressing it.
Glancing at the time, it was already 11:59 PM.
Chances were high that she was asleep by now, so it seemed wise not to disturb her.
After a brief pondering, Jared dialed Shiloh’s number instead.
The call connected, and Shiloh’s heavy breathing came through the phone.
“Bro, what’s up? It’s pretty late, you know. Need something?”
“Is she still mad?”
Upon hearing this, Shiloh paused mid–yawn, his eyes rolling in disbelief. ‘Mad? Who’s mad? Julia? Why can’t he call her to find out? Why wake me in the middle of the night?‘
Though inwardly amused, Shiloh replied tactfully, “I can’t say for sure. Maybe give her a call?”
Jared brushed his mist–like brows, “Nah, forget it. She’s probably asleep. I don’t want to bug her.”
Shiloh was nearly taken aback. So, he wouldn’t sleep because Julia was asleep? He worried about disturbing her, but not his brother?
“I’m hanging up.”
“Wait! There’s something I forgot to tell you.” Shiloh halted Jared, preventing him from hanging up, “Julia went to her brother’s place.”

‘She left? She was that upset?‘
Jared’s chest visibly rose and fell.
“Yeah, I know.” He didn’t, of course.
After that, he ended the call. Now, sleep seems even more elusive.
When Henry saw Jared with dark circles the following day, he immediately guessed sleep had eluded him.
“Hey, Jared, how about hitting KTV tonight? Blow off some steam?” Henry suggested.
Jared frowned, “Not really feeling it.”
“That’s precisely why we’re going! I’ll round up a few buddies. The more, the merrier. You can’t say no. If you do, we’ll just drag you there.”
That evening, thanks to Henry’s persistence and the cajoling of a couple of other well–off friends, Jared found himself unwillingly at KTV.
“Hey, Jared, quit staring at your phone! Have a drink,” Henry said, sliding a beer over.
But as he approached, Henry saw Jared still glued to his phone.
“What’s so captivating there that you can’t get your eyes off it? A money tree on your screen or a love note from someone?” Inquisitively, Henry settled beside Jared and peeked at his phone. One look and Henry was left utterly speechless.
Well, there weren’t any money trees or love notes–just pictures of his wife.
“Seriously, Jared? Do you have to dwell on this? Don’t women get mad sometimes? Look at my wife. Every time I visit her in the hospital, she greets me with a pillow. She’s like ready to knock me out.”
Jared set down his phone and gave Henry an indescribable look.
“Cut that stare. It’s unsettling,” Henry said, noticing Jared’s expression and picking up on his
scorn.
After a brief silence, Jared asked, “Is your wife not into you?”
“Well, sometimes, I feel like she doesn’t,” Henry replied casually, taking a swig of his beer. “Mmm, good stuff.”
“You’re not bothered?” Jared inquired, baffled.
“What’s the fuss? It’s how girls roll. They like the slow chase; it boosts their ego. Plus, I enjoy a challenge. The harder something is to get, the more I want it.”
Henry’s words struck a chord with Jared. He had the same mindset, but being emotionally invested, he was currently drowning in his feelings.
“I’m going to win her over,” Jared stated with determination.
He had decided that Julia would be his lifelong partner. After all, she flirted with him first.
“Now, that’s the spirit! Cheers to that,” Henry said, handing Jared a glass and clinking his own against it. Meanwhile in the adjacent private room.
“Hey, boss, why do you only keep drinking and not singing?” Alexander placed the microphone down and settled beside Julia, gazing at her with starry eyes.
“These drinks are hitting the spot.” Julia casually replied and tipped her head back, downing the beer in her glass.

Lincoln turned to Julia, offering a word of caution, “Boss, maybe take it easy on the drinks. You know how things can go when you’re tipsy. Remember last time when you started going all striptease?”
Lincoln had a vivid memory of Julia’s drunken antics. Under the influence, Julia began shedding her clothes one time. So, as her loyal men, they couldn’t just stand by while their boss was about to make a strip show. They tried to intervene, but they’d ended up battered and bruised.
Thankfully, Julia had grown tired after playfully roughing them up and eventually dozed off. If not, who knew what might have happened?
“I’m quite the drinker now.” Julia refilled her glass and downed another gulp of beer. But finishing the glass, a sudden dizziness took hold, distorting and blurring her surroundings. ‘Fuck! Am I drunk already?‘
