Chapter 146 Reality and Dreams (Lexa)
As soon as Julia kissed Jared, she watched him open his eyes, the corner of his lips curling into a smile as if he wasn’t about to die earlier.
“Are you kidding me?” She stood up in annoyance and was about to walk away when the man stood up and grabbed her wrist before locking her in his arms. And she just let him hug her, not because he wanted to, but because she wanted to.
Time seemed to blur when you were entangled with somebody. The rain eventually subsided, and that was when they pulled away from each other’s arms.
“Let’s go back, Jared.” She put his arm around her shoulders for support. She held him as they walked back to the hotel.
“I thought we were doing it,” Jared protested. He might have a high fever, but his determination was unwavering.
Julia rolled her eyes back in exasperation. “Over there? In that state? Can’t you see how right now? You looked like you were about to die!” “Did I?” Jared asked and let out a faint smile.

When he suddenly shivered, Julia quickened their pace. The moment they got inside their room, she checked his pulse.
The virus in his lesions would be difficult to eliminate. Ordinary fever–reducing drugs would take a long time to combat the virus, which explained why men had fever for several days. Conventional fever-reducing and anti–inflammatory drugs could only address the symptoms rather than the root cause. Hence, once an outbreak occurred, the virus would come back aggressively.
Her priority was to cool him down while waiting for the ambulance. She wiped his body all over with a wet cloth, ignoring the growing pain in her abdomen.
She needed medical equipment to analyze the structure and characteristics of the virus he caught. She had also heard Shiloh mention that their family had a genetic history related to this. Their grandfather also had experienced similar symptoms, which had been passed down through generations.
She had perfectly endured the pain in her abdomen and diligently tended to Jared. Fortunately, the man’s condition finally stabilized. The ambulance came and rushed them to the hospital. Meanwhile, a strong fecal smell wafted the room as Carter entered. He sniffed a strong scent of perfume, trying to mask the foul odor.
“I’m sorry about that,” Vivien weakly greeted him, emerging from the toilet. “My stomach still
hurts.”
Carter was about to approach her but halted in his steps as he slightly felt disgusted. Maybe because she sat in the toilet for hours. Vivien noticed his hesitation and felt sad.
“Are
you feeling better now? Do you want me to take you to the hospital?” Carter asked. “I’m feeling fine now. There’s no need to go to the hospital. The medicine works fine,” Vivien lied. She was feeling dehydrated and sick, but she didn’t want to end her trip with Carter just like that. Carter had been busy with work. And even though they worked together at the company, it was a rare opportunity for them to go on a vacation and have fun.
She couldn’t blame Carter, though. He needed to work on his business to provide for them. And compared to Julia, she looked much happier. When Carter was still with Julia back then, he never
took her on vacation.
Now that she thought of Julia, she recalled something. Her stomach was fine during the day, but she started having diarrhea when Julia bumped into her.
When Julia fell back then at the coffee shop, it also happened to her. ‘What’s happening? Could it be that she caused it? Did she curse me or what?”
“What is it?” Carter noticed her confusion.
“Carter, I just realized something strange. Don’t you think Julia did something to me? I was fine in the morning, but I suddenly felt sick when I bumped into her. And this wasn’t the first time.”
“You mean she caused your diarrhea?” Carter asked, his face tinged with disbelief. “What? Do you think she has some kind of superpower or what?”
“Maybe? Or maybe she cursed me?”
Carter burst out into laughter. “That’s silly. Why would she exert an effort to hurt you?”
Carter couldn’t believe Vivien, who was as nice as a lamb, would blame Julia for her misfortune. He believed her when she told him that Julia pushed her, that Julia caused her miscarriage, or that Julia poured coffee on her.
Now what? Julia caused her diarrhea? What kind of gibberish was that?
“If you don’t want to believe me, then don’t. I’m not trying to blame her or anything. It’s just a strange coincidence.” Vivien panicked when he saw the disappointment in Carter’s eyes. Before, he treated Julia that way. Now, she was receiving the same treatment from him.
When her stomach rumbled again, she squatted on the floor, clutching and groaning in pain.
“Hey, are you okay?” Carter ran over to her. “Don’t you need to go to the hospital?”
He panicked upon seeing her pale face. She ran over to the bathroom, hoping she could find relief. That was when Carter called for an ambulance.
At the hospital, Jared woke up alone. He scanned the ward, but he didn’t find Julia.
‘Did she return to the hotel?‘ He suddenly felt like sulking again. Scenes from last night started coming back to him in fragments.
He recalled how he asked her if she hated him that much. Her reaction was complicated, even in his memory. Apart from that, he couldn’t remember anything anymore.
But he had a dream about a woman whose face he couldn’t recall. The woman told him she’d give herself to him, and he was ecstatic after that.
He thought it might be Julia in his dream. But it was impossible for her to say that. He scanned the empty room once again. “This is my reality. I’m fucking alone.’
He must be having delusions because of his high fever. He could have passed out, and she just brought him to the hospital. Nothing more, nothing less.
He started to feel bad for himself once again when the door swung open and a beautiful woman. entered and approached him.
“You’re finally awake!”
