Chapter 144 Jealousy and Misunderstanding Under the Rain
Jared’s brows furrowed upon hearing the familiar voice of a man from the other line. A pang of pain ran through his heart as he finally recognized that voice.
“You’re with Carter?” he asked, entire face darkening as if this brewing storm was about to sweep down at any moment. He couldn’t imagine his wife with another man, let alone heres hance
Meanwhile, Julia’s lips parted at his words, baffled, thinking how he found out She threw in intense glare at the man who was always the main cause of her troubles and misery
“I am. He came and told me he had something to tell me,” she replied. There was no sense in hiding the truth from him anymore.
Jared clenched his jaws, eyes freezing in fury. He asked her not to meet with Carter, yet she disregarded his request and secretly proceeded to meet with him. She didn’t even have the audacity to inform him as if he’d disrupt her personal relationship with him.
Jared was overwhelmed with the pain of her little betrayal that he struggled to hold back his irritation anymore. He was even tempted to raise his voice and confront her.
“Jared, I’ll explain everything to you later.” With that, Julia ended the call without even hearing his
response.
Jared clutched the phone firmly in fury that his knuckles had all turned white, itching to throw it against the wall. He let out a deep sigh of frustration before storming out of the door in a hurry.
On the other hand, Julia repeatedly scowled at Carter in anger. “Are you satisfied now? Is this funny to you? You really want to put me in trouble every damn time, didn’t you?”
Julia instantly regretted her decision to see Carter when he remained silent.
“Why do you always treat me like this?” Carter asked with a frown.
Julia scoffed in response. “The fuck are you talking about?” In the past, she was the one who was always treated like crap.
Carter, on the other hand, felt uncomfortable at her swearing. “You changed. You never cussed before.”
“Because you didn’t cheat on me before,” Julia replied bluntly, eyes burning in rage. She hated it when she was reminded of her past, especially her past with him.
In frustration, Carter heaved a deep breath. “Can’t we just talk nicely? Like for a moment? Without the swearing and contempt?“,
“Talk nicely? You’re lucky I didn’t beat you up. Now you want us to talk nicely? After what you’ve done to me?”
Julia clenched her fists, holding herself back from throwing a punch at his good–for–nothing face. Honestly, she wanted to go all–out and kill him right now.
Carter noticed how she balled her fists. He realized that he had missed her so much. His heart suddenly ached. “Do you really like that man?”
It didn’t escape Carter how her face flushed as she opened the door for him earlier, just like what Vivien normally did whenever she saw him. It was giving him hope.
Julia’s brows arched at him. “So what? What is it to you if I really like him or not? You have nothing to do with me.”
Carter closed the gap between them and held her hand. “Julia. I know I broke your heart–that I broke you. But you ought to love yourself first before thinking of loving anyone again. And that

A
man, I could see that he was no good for you.”
He refused to believe that Julia’s relationship with that man was real. He was the only one she really loved.
And he had this sinking feeling as if something was missing in his life. And when he saw Julia again, he instantly knew that she was the one who would only complete him. And that he ought t make her his again.
It was a struggle for her not to slap him in the face, especially when he talked about her husband
like that.
“You’re making me laugh, Carter. You’re the one who couldn’t control your dick. You even pounded other women’s pussy even when we were engaged. You don’t get to judge other men, especially Jared. He’s not a womanizer like you. He’s different from everyone.”
joke? I
“Now, you speak for him? Are you sure he’s different from me? Is that supposed to be didn’t know you were this stupid and hopeless, Julia,” Carter burst out. He couldn’t control his anger any longer.
“I know, right? I used to be stupid and naive for dating a guy like you.” Julia pulled her hand from his grasp. “Anyway, I don’t have the energy to argue with you anymore.”
She
spun around and walked to the door.
“What? Are you that eager to see him? Will you kneel and beg for his forgiveness, then?”
She glanced at him with that playful smirk on her face. Carter went livid upon seeing her
reaction.
“Are you really that cheap to be with that man? Or are you just trying to make me jealous?”
Julia responded with a wide grin that Carter ultimately lost it. He couldn’t contain his anger any longer, and with big strides, he rushed toward her, grabbed her wrist, and slammed her against the wall.
}
“This is what you wanted, right? Do you want me to fuck you again? Then why don’t you just play with me right now, huh?” Carter asked, his hand tightly gripping her wrists.
Julia pressed her lips in anger. She felt sick to her stomach just looking at his face which was a few inches away from her. She was about to kick her in his groin when an angry voice resounded in
the air.
“What the hell are you doing!”
But that voice didn’t stop Carter from leaning toward her. She looked away so he wouldn’t be able to kiss her. But her resistance wasn’t visible from another angle. It would be easy to
misunderstand her situation- which Jared did.
At that moment, Jared felt he was caught in a violent storm, his anger consuming him as he watched his wife engage in a compromising act with another man. He stood motionless under the pouring rain, with thunder constantly rumbling overhead.
Julia gathered all her strength and pushed Carter away from her. He staggered and stumbled upon an electric pole. He immediately felt the pain at the back of his waist.
And that was when Julia saw Jared staring at them in the rain.
“Jared?” she mumbled.
Carter looked at the newcomer, immediately grinning upon recognizing him.
“Jared. It’s not what you-”
Before she could finish, Jared interrupted her. “I knew it. You are just using me.”
His dark eyes regarded her like icicles piercing into her very soul. He had a hunch but chose to ignore it every single time. He was naive enough to think that he could nudge her heart and make her fall for him. In the end, nothing went his way.
Julia was speechless as he was right. From the beginning, she had intended to use him to obtain the little jade statue from him. But his sincerity muddled her heart and mind. He made her want to stay with him as his real wife.
Her silence just confirmed Jared’s suspicion. The rain grew heavier each second, with lightning and thunder tearing through the night sky.
“Jared, hear me out. This is a misunderstanding. Carter’s nothing-”
But Jared turned and walked away before she could finish her explanation.
Julia reached out for the jade pendant dangling on her chest. Yes, she wanted to end their relationship because of her atrocities, but she didn’t want it to end that way.
“Jared, please….” She ran after him. But after a few steps, Carter suddenly grabbed her arm and stopped her.
“It’s pouring. You’ll catch a cold. Let him go and just stay with me. We still have a lot to talk about,” he instructed.
In her fury, Julia threw a punch in Carter’s face. “Yeah? Why don’t you talk to your woman?”
“How dare
you hit me!” Carter grabbed her hand and yanked her toward him.
“See? You’re asking for it.” With that, she raised her knee and kicked him in the groin.
She heard him groaning before she walked away to run after Jared.
“Come back here, you bloody woman!” Carter screamed while gritting his teeth.
But Julia was set to find Jared and ignored Carter’s cries. “Jared!” she called. The damn rain made it harder for her to find him.
And then she finally saw him, leaning against a street lamp pole, letting the rain splash all over him. And his eyes were full of misery.
“Oh, my God!” Julia blurted out as she walked over to him while he ignored her, eyes cast on the ground, lost in his thoughts.
“Jared. You’ll get sick. Let us go home now.”
She reached out to hold his hand, but Jared flicked his hand away.
“Leave me alone.” His voice was cold, devoid of any warmth.
‘Seriously. What am I going to do with his man?‘
