Chapter 119: You Don’t Want to Divorce Me in This Life!
‘I’m leaving!‘ Is it vital to state it so definitively?
Julia came to realize that the current situation wouldn’t be resolved with ease. With this understanding, she turned her head to gaze at Jared. His visage bore a disdainful expression, lips forming a stern, unyielding line of ice.
Though Jared remained silent, Julia could intuit his emotions at that moment.
Taking a deep breath, Julia directed her attention back to Yannie. “Are you pushing your own son to the brink? Since his early twenties, he’s borne immense burdens alone. He protected you, even contending for the Patriarch position in the Brooks family against his uncles. Have you ever heard him utter a complaint? Does his silence imply ease?”
Jared’s icy facade softened, his gaze momentarily unfocused as he looked at Julia, an
unexplainable shift in his eyes.
Frowning, Yannie regarded her son. She was intimately familiar with his resolute and decisive nature. Jared never voiced his suffering to others. He struggled with severe insomnia due to the intense pressure and sleepless nights he had endured.
Observing the change in Yannie’s expression, Julia surmised her words had struck a chord. She added, “His hardships may go unspoken, but if you were to empathize and place yourself in his shoes, you’d realize the magnitude of his challenges. You’re compelling him to choose between his wife and his mother. Can you comprehend the discomfort any man would experience in such a predicament?”
Julia continued, “If he chooses you, he’d feel inadequate for not being able to protect his own wife. If he chooses me, he’d be deemed unfilial.”
Julia’s words left Yannie speechless, a pang of guilt emanating from her gaze as she regarded Jared. Her previous haste had been driven by concern that Julia might endanger her son.
Within the restaurant, silence reigned, each word echoing as if suspended in the air. Cameron contemplated interrupting, but Julia’s impassioned speech seemed to have rendered her impervious to any attempts to drive her away.
Surveying her surroundings, Julia discerned the timing for her final move. Sometimes, the retreat was a strategy in itself.
Withdrawing her hand from Jared’s grasp, Julia cast a sorrowful look at him. “Given the
circumstances, I don’t wish to embarrass you further. After all, she’s your mother. You can’t sever your mother–child bond for me, a temporary wife. Let’s proceed with a divorce.”
Jared’s eyes, as deep as the sea, narrowed resolutely. “Unacceptable.”
“But she began, only for her words to be abruptly cut off by Jared.
“I’ve said it–I won’t allow it! You won’t divorce me in this lifetime!”
Jared’s grip on Julia’s hand tightened as he spoke, his fingers enveloping hers in a firm embrace. He then turned to face Yannie, determination etched across his features.
“There’s only one I want–her.”
Upon Jared’s declaration, Cameron received a warning glance. What Julia could surmise, Jared could intuit just as quickly. Much of today’s turmoil seemed orchestrated by Cameron behind the scenes. As Jared’s stern gaze narrowed at Cameron, she felt as though countless arrows pierced her heart, a whirlwind of sadness, jealousy, and anger enveloping her.

Yannie’s brows furrowed. She understood her son’s unyielding nature well. Once he made up his mind, altering it proved nearly impossible. Cameron was right–Julia was far from simple. Despite being at a disadvantage, she skillfully turned the situation around. Nonetheless, Julia’s response was reasonable and lacked concrete evidence to support her case.
Amid this impasse, Shiloh quietly approached Yannie, exchanging a hushed conversation that only they could hear. A spark ignited within Yannie’s eyes, disbelief giving way to a transformation. from complex emotions to calm resolve.
“Ah-” Yannie exhaled, her tone resigned. “Let’s sit down and eat.”
Julia and the others couldn’t fathom the sudden shift in Yannie’s demeanor. However, it was apparent that the situation had diffused.
After the meal, Julia entered the car and promptly queried Shiloh. “What did How did you manage to change her attitude by 180 degrees?”
Shiloh cast a glance at Jared before offering a two–word reply, “Trade secret.”
“Can’t share it?” Julia inquired.
you tell your mother?
“It’s classified,” Shiloh replied, his sealed–lips expression suggesting further questioning would be futile. Julia recognized the futility of persisting, yet her curiosity remained.
The incident escalated to a critical point, but Shiloh had managed to defuse it with just a few whispered words to Yannie. What exactly had he revealed?
“Godmother, what exactly did Shiloh tell you?” Cameron’s curiosity got the better of her.
Clearly, before Julia and the others arrived, Cameron had aggravated Yannie’s emotions, but Shiloh’s concise words had swiftly dispelled the tension. Cameron was now left both perplexed and intrigued.
Yannie sighed, her voice tinged with sadness. “It’s better if you don’t know. It might sadden you.”
Yannie’s reticence only fueled Cameron’s intrigue. “Godmother, please tell me.”
Yannie took Cameron’s hand and patted it affectionately. “You’re aware that Jared has been suffering from severe insomnia. Shiloh mentioned that Jared had been visiting Julia’s room every night. Holding her helps him sleep soundly.”
Cameron’s eyes widened in astonishment, a maelstrom of disbelief, jealousy, and anger swirling within her. She hadn’t fathomed that Jared had been seeking solace in Julia’s embrace each night.
While it sounded as though Jared’s insomnia had been alleviated, the implications weren’t lost on Cameron. After all, they were adults. A single man and a woman shared a room. Such a situation indeed must have led to certain intimate occurrences.
No, this couldn’t continue. If allowed to persist, Julia could eventually bear Jared’s child, securing her place as the Brooks family matriarch. Cameron knew she needed a swift strategy.
“Yes! Since confronting Julia won’t work for me, I’ll target those around her.”
According to her investigation, Julia’s brother, Conrad, held her in the highest regard, and she shared a close bond with a dear friend. A cunning smirk curled Cameron’s lips.
One by one, they’ll all be dealt with.
Returning to the villa, Julia took a bath while reflecting on the events at the old house. Although she remained uncertain about Shiloh’s conversation with Yannie, she perceived it as a mere delay tactic. Yannie’s stance could quickly shift in the coming days, potentially leading to her demanding Jared’s divorce from Julia.

Determined to act swiftly, Julia understood the urgency of her situation. Before divorcing Jared, she needed to locate the Little Jade Statue. While her initial plan to search for the old house had been derailed, the visit still proved valuable in familiarizing her with the environment.
Anticipating the next day, she planned to employ the pretext of staying at Purple Garden Manor and then discreetly infiltrating the old house.
As per her strategy, the following day, Julia covertly entered the old house around one in the morning. The success of her operation hinged on the fact that the security system of the old house was less stringent than that of Benison Villa.
The security measures at Benison Villa could be described as overly elaborate. Without this heightened security, Julia would not have been able to secure a marriage certificate with Jared.
Despite her thorough search efforts, she came up empty–handed in her quest for the Little Jade
Statue.
Her phone vibrated, indicating a new message from Molin. The text informed her that reliable sources told him that the item she sought was within Benison Villa.
She appeared to need to devise a method to search Jared’s room.
Finally, two days later, an opportunity presented itself to Julia. Jared had an imperative dinner engagement, followed by further evening entertainment, which meant he wouldn’t return home for the night.
Once she was confident Shiloh had fallen asleep, Julia embarked on her covert mission into Jared’s
room.
Relying on her experience and analysis, Julia was convinced that there was a concealed secret room within Jared’s quarters. She systematically combed every possible corner until she eventually stumbled upon a hidden safe behind the closet.
Moving the weighty wardrobe aside took considerable effort, but Julia’s determination prevailed, and she accessed the safe.
Unlocking the safe necessitated simultaneous manipulation of the password and the lock.
For Julia, circumventing this proved to be straightforward. Employing a pre–prepared iron hook, she inserted it into the keyhole. After three minutes, a satisfying “click” signaled success.
Next came the password.
Entering and excluding potential combinations one by one would take a lot of work. Julia’s initial attempt, employing Jared’s birthday, proved unsuccessful. Likewise, inputting Shiloh’s birthday didn’t yield any results either.
After a few more minutes of contemplation, Julia inputted all the significant dates associated with Jared. Yet, the safe remained unyielding.
“It seems that his birthday isn’t the key after all,” Julia mused aloud.
