Chapter 118: Forcing Julia to Divorce
With what Yannie said, Julia thought, ‘Ah, this is the one.’
A frown creased Julia’s brow. If Yannie was in such a hurry to push for her divorce from Jared, and if her deduction was accurate, there was a high chance that Cameron had meddled in the affair. Julia needed to devise a foolproof plan with her unmet objectives, and the divorce still needed to be in motion.
However, before Julia could formulate a solid strategy, Jared’s voice echoed in her ears.
“You can take the money back. I won’t divorce her,” Jared’s firm words resounded, causing Julia to turn her gaze toward him swiftly.
Following Shiloh’s lead, he added, “Burning bridges behind us, Mom, is this really necessary? Julia did her best to mend my leg. You can’t just dismiss her on a whim. She hasn’t done anything wrong.”
Jared further asserted, “Even if she had, it’s a matter between us as husband and wife. I should bear any consequences.”
“Absolutely, what my brother says is right!” Shiloh chimed in, supporting Jared’s stance.
Julia blinked, her gaze shifting between Jared and Shiloh. Her lips parted slightly, and a faint dazed look crossed her expression.
In contrast, Yannie’s eyes widened, clearly taken aback by the united front presented by her sons. She had acted in her son’s best interest, yet the two brothers were collaborating to defend Julia, an outsider, and asserting that her actions were excessive.
Julia had only been a part of their household for a brief period, yet she seemed to have woven her influence over the two brothers. Yannie wondered if there would still be a place for her in this family if this trend continued.
Perhaps Cameron’s assessments held truth. Though Julia might appear innocent on the surface, she could possess ulterior motives. Yannie believed that it was imperative to separate Julia from her son.
“Since this matter has been thoroughly discussed, I won’t beat around the bush,” Yannie declared, her
gaze fixed on Julia with a palpable air of hostility.
“Have you never doubted it? How could it be such a coincidence that she met Jared at the gate of the Civil Affairs Bureau? Why did she choose Jared instead of anyone?” Yannie’s voice held a note of skepticism.
Julia arched her eyebrows and retorted, “He’s the most handsome! The most dazzling in the crowd, I saw it right away.”
The corners of Jared’s lips curved upward slightly, and he extended his chopsticks to pluck a piece of vegetable, placing it gently into Julia’s bowl.
The restaurant’s atmosphere was so serene that the faintest sound would be audible. Every gaze, including Julia’s, was locked onto the contents of her bowl.
After a momentary pause, Julia shifted her attention to Jared. “The cook in the old house is quite skilled, particularly with this dish. I find it quite delightful.”
Sharing his culinary preferences with her was a gesture of intimacy.
Julia blinked, acknowledging the dish’s quality. However, she couldn’t help but wonder whether this was the right moment to discuss food appreciation.
Chapter 118: Forcing Julia to Divorce
Cameron stared at the dish in Julia’s bowl, her eyes wide with a hint of jealousy. Growing up alongside Jared, she had never received such treatment!
Shiloh smirked, silently commenting on the situation. Displaying affection at home was one thing, but flaunting it in front of their mother–was she trying to provoke her?
Cameron nudged the momentarily stunned Yannie. She snapped back to reality, exhaling softly before reiterating her earlier statement. “Jared, are you seriously telling me you never had suspicions?”
“I did have doubts,” Jared admitted candidly.
“Then why-” Yannie began. Her voice trailed off.
“I investigated. A scoundrel had hurt her, and I was available at that time. We were both wandering souls, so we found solace in each other.”
“Is that all?” Yannie’s skepticism lingered.
“Are you implying there’s more?” Jared countered.
His response left Yannie momentarily speechless. Julia continued to focus on her bowl, her gaze fixed. She wasn’t concerned about her own situation; she was Julia. However, the realization that her core had shifted was surprising. She hadn’t expected Jared to confront his mother to support her willingly.
Yannie’s actions stemmed from maternal concern for her son’s well–being, inducing a twinge of guilt within Julia. Yet, her intentions were far from harmful, as Julia well understood.
After a brief silence, Yannie exchanged a glance with Shiloh before resuming her conversation. “There’s also the matter of Shiloh. Facing a horde of killers, can Julia singlehandedly fend off so many of them? Doesn’t it raise suspicions that these people might be in cahoots with Julia, orchestrating this scenario to make you trust her more?” Yannie’s words flowed with skepticism, probing for doubts.
Instantly, Shiloh interjected, his voice unwavering, “No!” His conviction was unwavering.
“No? How can you be so certain?” Yannie inquired further.
While furrowing his brow, Shiloh’s mind retraced to that gripping day–the day of the accident. The car had swayed toward him, and Julia had rushed to his side without a second thought. In that life–or–death moment, it seemed entirely possible for Julia to have been fatally struck by the car. Moreover, her subsequent unwavering protection of him, standing resolutely in harm’s way. seemed genuine and unscripted.
“Because you didn’t witness Julia’s desperate efforts to shield me that day! She nearly lost her life for me!” Shiloh’s voice conveyed deep earnestness.
Jared’s countenance clouded over upon hearing this. The trench mice responsible must face the consequences of their actions.
“Nearly lost her life? But she didn’t die. This could suggest that Julia and those individuals are collaborating,” Cameron interjected, her words laden with skepticism.
Cameron’s assertion was met with two pairs of frigid eyes, one belonging to Jared and the other to Shiloh. Although Shiloh was involved, it was Jared’s gaze that commanded attention.
Jared’s icy stare seemed to pierce through, leaving Cameron unsettled and perturbed.
“Cameron has a point,” Yannie chimed in, her voice echoing his sentiments, “In such a perilous situation, Julia appeared to remain unscathed. Isn’t that the most suspicious aspect?”

“But these are mere spéculations and analyses on your part. You lack concrete evidence to prove that I am affiliated with those individuals or possess ulterior motives toward your son, don’t you?” Julia’s tone was assertive, not arrogant, as she gazed at Yannie.
Yannie exhaled audibly, casting an unkind look in Julia’s way. “Miss Watson, are you willing to swear that your intention of marrying my son is purely honest? Are you willing to swear on your relatives‘ names? I’ll extend your provisional trust if you’re willing to make that vow.”
Julia’s eyes turned frosty, her gaze hardening. Her relatives were sensitive, and while she could tolerate a lot, she couldn’t allow them to be exploited in this manner.
Yannie sensed an impending clash, the tension taut like a drawn sword. Just as the situation seemed ready to explode, Jared abruptly stood, clasped Julia’s hand, and addressed Yannie with unwavering seriousness, “Since our presence isn’t welcome, we shall depart.”
“Jared, you can’t-” Yannie’s anger surged, her voice rising, “I insist on clarifying matters today! Mark my words. I’m making this request now: her or me. Decide, Jared! Do you want to divorce her, or do you want to sever our mother–son bond?!”
