The moment Julia uttered those words, the atmosphere in the private room instantly became quieter than it had ever been.
Everyone else stared at Julia and Jared in bewilderment except for Henry,who had known the truth all along.
Julia was more concerned about her brother’s opinions, so she turned to him and carefully asked, “Conrad?”
Conrad let out a deep breath as if calming himself down.Then, he gave Julia a stern look. “Julia,are you…serious? This isn’t some prank?”
Julia was not sure how to answer his question.She didn’t entirely tell them the truth. Also, she just wanted to find the Little Jade Statue to learn about her birth.
“I see,” Conrad replied and stood up.
Julia’s hesitant expression and silence were enough for Conrad to confirm his doubts.
“Conrad,wait.I-” Conrad fired his question Before she could even finish her sentence. “When did this happen?”
“J–just recently…” Julia trailed. She didn’t want to reveal that it was on the day she was supposed to get married to Carter. She was scared that Conrad would impulsively conclude that she had married Jared out of spite toward Carter.
Conrad licked his lips and glanced at Jared. “What does he do?”
He wasn’t trying to judge or belittle Jared. He was just worried about his sister’s happiness. He was her older brother, and he needed to be sure.
“He is an…” Julia glanced at Jared. “He works for the Brooks Corporation.” Just like earlier, she wasn’t necessarily lying to her brother.
Jared’s identity was one of a kind. If Conrad found out that she married the CEO of the Brooks Corporation, he might get suspicious and think she was just a mistress.
Even if that wasn’t the case, someone of his high stature might not be compatible with her and might even kick her out of the house someday.
In addition, Julia had never had any romantic feelings toward Jared.Once she accomplished her goal, she would file for a divorce. By then, she wouldn’t have any connections with him.
Considering her plan, she thought it would be best not to disclose specific information to her
brother.
Little did she know, Jared realized Julia’s intentions.
His pitch–black eyes sank. He narrowed his eyes at her, revealing a hint of determination.
“Brooks Corporation?” Conrad asked. “I remember when you introduced him earlier…You said that his family name was Brooks. Is he from the Brooks family?” He was obviously worried that Jared was connected to such a family.
If he was indeed a member, that only meant he was not just a mere employee.
Conrad was afraid that this man might be a scion of a powerful family and was just toying with Julia’s feelings, just like Carter did.
Maddie,who had been listening to their conversation all this time,transferred her curious–filled eyes to Jared after hearing Conrad’s question. Her head tilted,extremely curious

‘I’m sorry,Conrad,‘ she woefully whispered in her heart.
Conrad indeed felt relieved. He was worried that Julia would suffer if Jared was truly related to he Brooks family. After all,that family was far more influential and elite than the Ross clan.
Look what happened.Carter nearly ruined her sister’s life.
If Julia got associated with a man with an even more powerful background than Carter,she would face even worse challenges. Being with an ordinary man was the safest option.
Conrad looked at Jared. “Do you want to smoke with me outside?”
Of course, it was obvious that it was just his excuse to talk to him alone.
“Sure.” Jared didn’t hesitate and stood.

“Julia,” Conrad chuckled. “Are you worried that I’ll bite him?” He shook his head and sighed.
‘Indeed,women were complicated creatures.They hold onto things and turn them into grudges, he thought.
“I’m not!” Julia exclaimed. She gave Jared one last look before releasing his hand.
Right after the two men left, Maddie gave Julia a malicious look. “Tsk,tsk,tsk.Your eyes are literally sparkling, Julia.You‘ re really good at keeping secrets, huh? You even fooled your best friend! You said he was just a friend, blah, blah-”
Maddie made a gagging sound and covered her mouth with her hand. Her face instantly turned pale.
Henry stopped drinking his wine and carefully studied Maddie‘ s face.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay? Let me check your pulse,” Julia worriedly asked,grabbing Maddie‘ s wrist.
“Woah.Checking my pulse?Since when did you learn such medical skills?” Maddie teased, looking at her friend in disbelief.
“What if I told you that I’m the apprentice of a gifted doctor? Would you believe me?” Upon hearing Julia‘ s statement, Maddie looked at her friend in utter shock.
‘Should I believe this woman?” If it were before,when she didn’t know that Conrad and his sister‘ s company developed the YMR acne product, she would have thought that Julia was just

However,she knew about it now,and the YMR acne product was a main project created by the apprentice of a gifted doctor.They were also able to secure the help of the gifted doctor because of Julia…

While Julia was busy checking her friend‘ s pulse, Henry continued watching Maddie carefully.
He couldn’t help but wonder. ‘Why is she so concerned about an upset stomach? Does she really need to be that worried?‘
A sudden idea flashed in his mind, leaving him speechless.
“Julia,how is it? Is my stomach okay?” Maddie carefully asked, fearing that Julia would miss her point.
Also, she didn’t want Henry to know she was pregnant with his baby.
‘These children are mine and have nothing to do with this man.”
She didn’t want to suddenly be involved with this man just for the sake of her children.
“Luckily,you‘ re fine. Just take good care of your health. Don’t drink alcohol,eat too much or less,and watch out for your food intake. I can give you advice regarding your diet.I’ll send you a list later.”
While talking, Julia caught a glimpse of Maddie‘ s heels.
“Also,stop wearing tall heels. It’s dangerous if you fall.”
The more Julia spoke,the more Henry became more and more confused.
‘I thought she just had an upset stomach?‘
Maddie noticed Henry staring at her stomach, so she immediately got nervous, thinking he was suspecting something.
She hurriedly stood up. “Uh…Excuse me. I’ll go to the powder room first.”
“I’ll go with you,” Julia replied,worried Maddie might feel unwell and throw up.
“No need,” Maddie laughed nervously. “Don’t worry,Julia.It’s just an upset stomach.I‘ m not pregnant! You don’t need to make a fuss.Bye!” Panicking, she dashed to the bathroom.
‘Pregnant?‘
Henry froze as soon as he heard that word. His eyes never left Maddie‘ s retreating back.
‘No way…
He gulped hard. ‘Did we actually succeed on the first try?‘
‘Impossible.‘
Even if he was extremely powerful, Maddie wasn‘ t stupid.She must have taken a morning after pill the next day.
“What are you looking at?” Maddie asked Henry when she returned. Annoyed, she hurriedly left the room.
Henry immediately put down his glass, sporting a stern expression. After a moment of silence, he stood up and left the private room.
Julia looked around and realized that she was the only one left.

‘Might as well go and see, Julia thought.
