Chapter 104 Admitting that Jared Brooks is Her Husband
Right after hearing that statement, Maddie looked up in an instant.The moment she saw the man’s face,she immediately remembered the night when she had pinned the man down.
She could still vaguely remember the man’s reluctance and grumbling demeanor, but in the end,she was able to subdue him.
“Oh my gosh,it’s you!” she exclaimed. ‘How could it be?”
He was the man who had been calling Julia all this time!He obviously liked her,and yet she had managed to snatch her best friend away?
With this thought in mind, Maddie subconsciously pressed her lower abdomen, feeling an intense sense of conflict in her heart.
Of course,she didn’t want to get rid of the three little lives inside her. However, she knew that if Julia and this man got together in the future, her friendship with Julia would be scarred.
Maddie bit her lower lip,not knowing what to do.
‘Of all people,why did it have to be him?” she thought in distress.
Meanwhile, Julia’s eyes shifted back and forth between Henry and Maddie.With a confused tone, she asked, “Do you two…perhaps know each other?”
Maddie gulped nervously. Afraid that Julia might misunderstand, she shook her head vehemently. “No!N–No, Julia.We don’t know each other. It’s my first time seeing him.”
Julia stared at Maddie with suspicion. She wasn’t stupid. Just looking at their reactions and conversation just now,it was clear that they knew each other.
What bothered her was the fact that Maddie denied that she knew Henry.Was she hiding something from her? Were they both hiding something?
Julia kept on thinking about it until Maddie spoke. “Julia, I swear I don’t know this guy. Are you guys…in a relationship?”
But before Julia and Henry could answer Maddie‘ s question, Jared appeared and went straight to Julia’s side. His eyes gently fell on her. “Here?”
“Yeah,” Julia responded.
“Come in,” Jared said and reached out his large hand,casually taking Julia‘ s bag off her shoulder.
Maddie‘ s lips parted. Her initial thought was wrong!

She wouldn’t know how to face Julia if that was the case.
She briefly glanced at Henry before following Julia inside the private room. She sat beside her. Just as she was getting comfortable,Conrad arrived.
Maddie suddenly remembered what Julia told her before, so she immediately moved to sit next to Conrad.She beamed at him and enthusiastically poured him a glass of red wine.
“It’s nice to see you here,Conrad.Why don’t we have a toast for your thriving business?” She grinned.
“Oh,thanks,” Conrad replied and raised his glass in a gentlemanly manner,clinking it against

Henry rolled his eyes and shook his head. “This woman is shameless,‘ he thought.
She was way different when they met that night at the bar.She hugged and kissed him without hesitation. The next morning,she threw thirty–three dollars, in coins, on his bed and said that since they were both adults,the money was her payment for what she had done.
Days later, Henry still couldn’t forget the way she threw those coins at him.
He didn’t know that a girl like her would have so many coins with her.
Henry returned to his senses. His gaze went to Maddie again. He watched her give Conrad a sweet smile. For some reason, a sour feeling started to form in his throat.
‘What a shameless woman!”
“Maddie,” Julia grunted and grabbed her friend’s hand, stopping her from reaching for the wine bottle again. “Given your current state, it’s not good for you to drink.”
“Why? What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?” Conrad asked,concerned. Maddie and Julia were close friends.They hung out all the time in the past. That was why Conrad considered Maddie like his little sister.
“Oh no,” Maddie laughed awkwardly. “I think I have an upset stomach.” She then her glass.

She might be a heavy drinker, but she was a mother now–a mother of three.She shouldn’t be selfish and compromise the health of her babies.
The last thing she wanted was to put her children in danger.
“Your stomach? Not surprising, though. Most people who always hang out in bars have uncertain schedules and live disorderly lives, right?” Henry butted in. He shrugged and took a sip
of his wine.
Maddie turned to him, annoyed.
“Who’s the one with the irregular schedule here? You‘ re the disorderly one!” Maddie replied in a sassy way.
Julia narrowed her eyes,watching the two carefully. Her curiosity was becoming more intense. Her guess was correct; these two had already met before.
She was enjoying her discovery that she didn’t notice the topic already shifted to her. Jared peeled a shrimp,dipped it in the sauce,and placed it on her plate. He kept doing the same thing until Julia‘ s plate was filled with shrimp.
Julia stared at her plate in a daze. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out. She then gazed at Jared,who looked serious about his task.
Suddenly,Conrad cleared his throat. “Julia, are you sure that you‘ re just friends with this guy?” he asked with furrowed brows.
As soon as she heard Conrad’s juicy question, Maddie tore her eyes off Henry. Her eyes glittered as she stared at Jared and Julia with amusement.
Julia widened her eyes and didn’t dare to blink. It was as if keeping her eyes wide open would make her look more innocent.
“Of course. We’re just friends.”
As soon as she finished speaking,Jared stretched out his hand and wiped the corner of Julia‘ s
lips with his thumb.
“You have sauce on your lip,” Jared muttered and showed her his oil–stained thumb. He then grabbed a wet napkin to wipe his finger.
Silence filled their table.
It was so quiet one could hear a pin drop.
Julia’s lips remained parted, looking at Jared in a daze.
“Oh shit,” Maddie murmured when her fork dropped to the floor,creating a loud clatter. Julia stared at Jared with wide eyes. The latter then met her gaze with his intense, pitch–black eyes.
He did it on purpose. After all, he couldn’t accept that she would introduce him only as
her ‘friend.‘
Now, he wanted to see if Julia would continue with her narrative,or if she would she finally reveal their relationship.
Julia and Jared locked eyes. It seemed like the world fell into a deafening silence.
Conrad sensed the tension. He sighed and looked at his sister seriously. “Julia,you have never lied to me before.”
Julia bit her lip. She was left with no choice.
Maddie released an audible gasp. “Oh my gosh, Julia!You! You actually lied to my face! You said he’s not your boyfriend!We tell each other everything, and yet,you didn’t tell me you have a boyfriend?!” She dramatically held her chest and threw Julia a murderous glare.
Julia’s eyes traveled to Maddie and Conrad.The situation had progressed to a point where she couldn’t keep hiding anymore.
“I didn’t lie to you,” she told Maddie. “He really isn’t my boyfriend.”
“Why are you still lying-” Julia cut Maddie off.
“Because he is my husband.We went to the Civil Affairs Bureau and got married.
