Chapter 95: Rubbing In The Heat
Thankfully, a young female student from the crowd quickly stepped forward, saying, “I’m a student at the Ilvermony Medical Health Center, and I have a silver needle with me.”
The female student handed the silver needle to Mae and positioned herself beside her, ready to assist at any moment.
The surroundings were filled with onlookers; pregnant women and children always managed to evoke sympathy and concern. All eyes were fixed on Mae as she worked to aid the pregnant woman. Watching Mae take the silver needle without a hint of hesitation and skillfully apply it to the acupoints on the pregnant woman’s body, the female student was left astonished. Mae’s proficiency was beyond impressive, so impressive that she even surpassed Ilvermony’s hospital professor!
In her state of shock, she swiftly pulled out her cell phone and began recording a video of Mae’s deft hand holding the needle.
With a focused expression, Mae swiftly and accurately administered the needle, and by the time the ambulance arrived, the pregnant woman’s abdominal pain had significantly subsided.
“You’re going to be fine. Just go to the hospital with the doctor now.”
“Thank you… thank you.” The woman breathlessly spoke as she looked at Mae with teary eyes, grateful for her aid.
As ambulances arrived one after another and the injured were taken to the hospital, the remaining matters were left to the traffic police and fire department. Mae carefully wrapped the silver needle and returned it to the young girl.
“Thank you.” Mae curtly said.
“You… you’re incredibly skilled.”
The girl gazed at Mae with a look of admiration, unable to contain her praise. Simultaneously, a sense of familiarity struck her. After a moment’s thought, her face lit up. “You… you look like that actress Mae Lee.”
Mae paused, then offered a smile without confirming or denying, casually found an excuse, and took her leave.
Little did she anticipate that this incident, no matter how brief, would propel her to internet stardom.
“Are these people crazy?” Jean Gray sighed, setting the tablet down by her side and muttering softly “What’s bothering you?” Mae looked up at her, sensing that this 5G surfer girl was probably 80% annoyed by some bizarre internet comments again.
As expected, when Jean heard her question, she picked up the tablet and sat down beside Mae. saying, “Take a look, that day when there was a car accident on Venturo Street, a girl from a medical academy recorded a video of passersby saving a pregnant woman…”
Mae’s eyebrows twitched slightly, and her gaze shifted to the video that Jean had shown her an image of herself saving the pregnant woman.
The video didn’t show her face; it was a close–up of the hand poised to administer an injection. What

irked Jean was the girl’s caption accompanying the video:
[This miraculous doctor bears a striking resemblance to actress Mae, and she was as beautiful as a fairy!]
This sentence may have irritated the netizens and one by one, they all scolded Mae for being a drama queen to rub off on someone else’s divine doctor.
“The audacity of you taking advantage of people’s suffering for your own gain! The people and the pregnant women are in critical condition, and all Mae can do is promote her looks,” one comment read.
“Comparing an opera singer to a divine doctor? Mae must be craving attention to draw such a parallel. Does she have any shame?” Another comment read.
“Imagine a pregnant woman on the brink of losing her life and her child’s life, yet Mae, a mere playwright, seeks attention by associating herself with the tragedy. It’s as if bad luck itself is attracted to her.” Another comment was added.
The initial comment’s opening sentence had thrown Mae into a whirlpool of public opinion. Even her dormant social media account, Super Talk, was under attack by negative comments from disgruntled followers.
“Do you think these people are mentally deranged? Are you the one trying to provoke them? The blogger merely complimented the doctor’s beauty, much like you. Can you really consider it a provocation?”
Compared to Mae, Jean was even more infuriated by the situation.
Mae found herself at a loss for words. Amid her rush to assist the injured, she hadn’t even noticed the girl recording her actions, let alone posting the video online.
“I’ll help you fire back at them,” Jean declared, her fingers poised to type rapidly. But Mae intervened, halting her friend’s intentions.
“Do you think you can out–reply to these people on your own? The more you engage, the more they’ll lash out.”
“I just can’t stand not responding. Ignoring them feels wrong. Mae, speaking of which, you’ve been having a series of unfortunate events lately. How come you keep attracting these problems?”
Mae chuckled, which only seemed to infuriate Jean further.
“Are you seriously laughing right now?”
“Okay, okay, I won’t laugh,” Mae consoled her, then smoothly transitioned the conversation.
“By the way, how’s your brother’s project progressing?”
True to expectations, Jean’s attention shifted immediately upon hearing her brother’s project mentioned.
Noting Jean’s deflated demeanor, Mae commented, “It can’t be going well, can it?”
A triumphant grin flashed across Jean’s face. “I heard from a board associate who used to be close to my parents that Peter is desperately hiring high–priced engineers to fix the data issues. However, it doesn’t seem to be making much of a difference. The board members are starting to take notice.”
Jean paused, her gaze shifting to Mae. “Do you think he’ll eventually come begging for your help?”

Mae offered a small smile. “Let’s see how long he can hold out.”
While her IT expertise might not be the best globally, Mae knew that finding a quick solution for Peter’s data problems wouldn’t be easy.
“Even if the market can afford to wait, your shareholders won’t be so patient. Peter wants to keep his chairmanship; he’ll have to invite you into Gray Corporation.”
Entering Gray Corporation didn’t greatly interest Jean; she hadn’t aspired to such a role. However, considering that Gray Corporation was closely tied to her mother’s legacy, she was reluctant to let Peter take control easily.
She looked at Mae with concern, her brows furrowing. “Mae, Peter is no saint. If he gets desperate, I worry he might act against you. Perhaps… maybe it’s better to just forget about it.”
Mae reassured Jean, patting the back of her hand gently. “Don’t worry, I’ll be cautious.”
The Lee Family had been absent from Mae’s presence ever since the incident when they were asked to leave the ward.
But at this moment, the entire Lee Family was enveloped in a cloud of anxiety.
“It’s like those few shareholders on the board of directors are intentionally ganging up against us. I can’t shake the feeling that those old guys might be pulling some strings behind the scenes,” Jackson Lee’s face was contorted with frustration, and his slightly flushed cheeks betrayed his
anger.
The patriarch of the Lee Family, Sean Lee, let out a soft sigh, a mixture of helplessness and resentment evident in his voice as he whispered, “Those board members used to be close allies of your mother. They’ve always looked down on me as an outsider. Now that you’ve taken over the Lee Family, it’s not surprising that they’re aiming their arrows at you.”
Hearing his father’s words, Jackson’s anger surged even higher. “My mom has passed away, and there’s no one left in the Swinton Family. If those old cronies of the Swinton Family are so loyal, they should go to hell and show their loyalty in front of my mom’s grave.”
Sean’s expression darkened a bit. “Don’t talk recklessly! If those people catch wind of your words, do you still expect to remain as the chairman of the board?”
Jackson’s anger didn’t subside much after being reprimanded by his father. His face still bore a look of indignation, though his tone was now somewhat subdued.
