Run Away
Chapter 82: Can’t We Get Together?
“Mae is allergic to pollen. Doesn’t Mr. Smith know that?”
As the words fell, Mark’s expression instantly froze. His handsome face, which had originally been suppressed with thinly veiled anger, was colored with a bit of dismay.
Subconsciously, he looked at Mae and saw the way she was looking at him right now. There was a hint of mockery in addition to the initial caution.
It was as if she was satirizing his self–righteousness, satirizing how hypocritical this gesture of goodwill was.
For a moment, the air seemed to freeze. Mark looked at Mae and opened his mouth in a slightly confused manner, trying to defend himself with something, but realized that he couldn’t say anything.
At that moment, a very faint laugh broke the awkward and oppressive atmosphere. They heard Aaron say:
“It looks like Mr. Smith really doesn’t know, but it’s understandable.”
This sounded like he was helping him, but to Mark’s ears, it was full of malice.
He and Mae were husband and wife, yet he didn’t even know about her pollen allergy. Thinking of this, he asked Aaron, “You don’t know what kind of person Mae is to me.” It was like a heavy slap in the face at that moment.
As he looked at Aaron and then at the expressionless Mae, the thorns of the roses in his hands became sharper, making his heart ache.
The hand holding the flower released and tightened, tightened, and released. He finally threw the flower to the driver. “Take it and throw it away.”
“Yes.”
The driver silently looked at the strange atmosphere in front of him. He took the flowers and quickly walked away with his head bowed.
This really was a naked Asura field and was really red.
Mae did not know what Mark was trying to do. It was not divorce. She still could not understand why Mark was deliberately making things difficult for her. He was deliberately going against her, but what did this bunch of roses actually mean?
Did he send flowers as a gesture of goodwill?
Mae realized that she really didn’t understand Mark at all, let alone understand the unfathomable thoughts of this person.
Especially since this man who couldn’t even spell the word “romance” was now awkwardly standing in front of her with a bouquet of flowers. It was making her even more confused as to what he was actually thinking.
If she hadn’t experienced the despair of her previous life, she might have thought that Mark was trying to get back together with her.
Mae laughed sarcastically in her heart and didn’t bother to look at him. Instead, she said to Aaron:

“Aaron, let’s go, I’m a little hungry too.”
Aaron said, “Okay,” and said to Mark, “Mr. Smith, excuse us.”
Mark’s face was dark as he watched Aaron walk towards Mae, his heart rolling with anger.
Especially when he heard that silent closeness when Mae called Aaron’s name just now. It made his anger, along with a trace of imperceptible jealousy, rise to his head.
“Mae.”
He still couldn’t help but call out to her.
Mae looked at her and said, “Is there anything else I can do for you, Mr. Smith?”
Her eyes, as always, were strange and distant, as if saying another word to him would be a waste of time.
At that moment he couldn’t even tell if he was disappointed or angry. His only thought was that he didn’t want Mae to leave with Aaron.
He had always had a feeling that he would lose Mae forever, and this sudden realization made his heart panic more and more.
He never knew that losing her was such a terrible thing.
At a time when he thought he had everything under control, he was also afraid of losing.
“Yeah, something’s up.”
He spoke, throwing out these few words, but his voice grew hoarse without him noticing.
“If we’re not talking about the divorce, there shouldn’t be anything else to talk about between Mr. Smith and me.”
Mae looked at Mark. Her clear eyes were not fluctuating with emotions, but they were firmly fixed on the word “divorce” without any hesitation.
Hearing the word “divorce” again, Mark thought he had gotten used to it, but he was still hurt by her cold attitude.
“If I say it is, then it is!”
He was stubborn and overbearing, raising his eyes to look at Aaron. The bottom of his biting eyes was undeniably domineering. “Mr. Foster, Mae is still my wife. I have to talk to her about something right now.“–
The four eyes stared at each other, vaguely bringing up the tension between them.
Aaron and Mark weren’t on the best of terms, but they had worked together on drug development for many years, so he wasn’t intentionally going against Mark.
He looked at Mae–with a faint question in his eyes.
Mae really didn’t want to talk to Mark about irrelevant topics, but looking at his current appearance, she was afraid of implicating Aaron. She said to him after thinking about it:
“Wait for me first. I’ll be done soon.”
“Okay.”
Mae walked over to Mark. “What else do you want to say? I don’t think there’s any need to talk about other unnecessary topics between us.”
She patiently talked to him, feeling that her attitude was already calm enough.
But Mark’s facial expression did not look good, and it was obvious that it had sunk much lower than it had a moment ago.
Finally, she sighed helplessly and tried her best to speak in a calm and friendly tone.
“I know
you blame me for scheming against you back then. I apologize for that. It was really my fault that time. Now we’ve been separated for four years. You’re a busy man. Why do you have to go against me, an insignificant woman? Don’t you think it’s a waste of time? You just have to sign it and do the divorce formalities with me. We had a complicated history but can’t we at least part ways on good terms?”
Mae really couldn’t understand Mark. In her mind, he was not a person who would waste time on such a trivial matter.
Goodbye and good riddance?
Her tone was extremely sincere. It was so sincere that she didn’t even have the heart to argue with him, but that didn’t make him feel any better in his heart. Instead, the nameless panic attacked his insides again.
“If you hate me, then you hate me. Isn’t it more important that you sign the divorce earlier to get rid of me?”
Mae felt that if she was being sincere enough, Mark would have to listen to her anyway, but she noticed that Mark’s eyes were looking at her more and more sullenly. The coldness in his eyes was growing more intense.
His deep eyes narrowed slightly, and he stared at her for a long time without saying a word before he hissed and said, “Do you think I don’t want to sign just to fight you?”
“Then why?”
Mae asked back without the slightest hesitation. “Could it be that Mr. Smith has some attachment to me as his ex–wife?”
After saying that, she couldn’t help but laugh. “Do you believe that statement yourself, Mr. Smith?”
She had also comforted herself countless times that sooner or later Mark would develop some feelings for her. If he wouldn’t want to move, then she would take another step towards him or two steps. Even if she went to the 99th step, he only needed to take one step and that would be enough.
But later, she clearly realized that for some people, even if you go a hundred steps forward, they will still choose to go a hundred steps back. She would not be able to catch up.
