Chapter 44: 1, Mae Lee, Don’t Want You Anymore
As Mr. Smith’s special assistant for so many years, what personal matters of the boss does he not know?
For the past four years, he had been sending people everywhere like mad to find the whereabouts of the wife. Upon learning that the wife has returned, his emotions are clearly different. He’s just putting on an act here.
Pretending to be impressive can get you struck by lightning, but this president of his might not only be struck by lightning but also end up in a crematorium, probably to the point that even the ashes won’t be found.
And here he was, finally getting his wife back after so much effort, yet he didn’t know how to properly appease her. What kind of talk was he spouting? Even calling him a clueless guy was an understatement.
Compared to Mark’s evident fury and mockery, Mae’s expression didn’t change much. However, when she heard Mark mention what had happened back then, a faint trace of something indiscernible flickered in her eyes.
She had truly admired Mark back then, and it was true that she had been manipulated. But now, having married and divorced, delving into and explaining past events wouldn’t hold much meaning.
Her gaze remained cool as she looked at Mark, who radiated a thin layer of anger. She understood why their marriage that year had grown so distant.
Perhaps it was because she had intruded into something that should have belonged to Jennifer.
She hadn’t expected Mark to be so “responsible” that he’d take her into his bed after just one night’s sleep.
She sneered and laughed, her eyes meeting Mark’s gaze as she said, “Mr. Smith, you’re talking like got on your bed, and you weren’t enjoying it. A willing and consensual affair–how can you say that’s shameless?”
Her indifferent demeanor, even after being insulted by Mark’s words, left her face unflinching. She could even casually accept their past actions in such a manner, which made the enraged Mark feel powerless, like a fist striking cotton.
Mark stared at Mae in silence for a while. Eventually, he let out a soft sigh and said, “It’s been four years. How long do you intend to hold onto this grudge?”
Pinching the bridge of his nose, he tried to soften his tone as much as possible and continued, “Once you’ve had your fill of causing a scene, come back home with me. I won’t bring up the past again.”
His tone of granting a favor landed on Mae’s ears, causing her restrained anger to surge.
Originally, she didn’t want to provoke Mark. Given his influence, there was no advantage to offending him while she was in Sofitel City. But how could this infuriating scum act so self–righteous?
Causing a scene?
Holding a grudge?
Mark’s words simply made Mae burst into laughter.

She raised her gaze and met his eyes with a chilly and domineering look. “Mark Smith, don’t forget, it was you who gave me those choices back then. I followed both choices just as you wished. And now you’re here using this helpless tone to accuse me of causing a scene. Don’t you think you’re. nauseating?”
The more she spoke, the more furious she became. If it weren’t for little Jane, she would have given this scum a good punch.
The way she looked at Mark, cold and disappointed, was imbued with a resolute determination that sent a pang of anxiety straight to his heart.
“Loving you back then was genuine, and no longer wanting you is also genuine. It has nothing to do with holding a grudge.”
With each word pronounced deliberately and punctuated by her footsteps, she took a step closer to Mark. Her eyes emanated a chilling resolve as she uttered, “Mr. Smith, listen carefully… I, Mae Lee, don’t want you anymore.”
“Don’t want you anymore!”
These four simple words landed like heavy gold ingots, smashing into Mark’s chest, causing him to curl up in pain, clutching himself as if his internal organs were twisting.
