Chapter 42: The President Wants to Talk to You
By the time they emerged from the biotechnology lab, it was nearing evening.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Foster, for taking up your entire afternoon.”
“Don’t mention it, Ms. Lee. Your ideas about the research and development this afternoon have been very enlightening for us. I want to thank you as well.
Mr. Foster nodded slightly; his handsome face adorned with a graceful smile.
This was the first time he had shared so many common topics with a woman in this field, and after several hours had passed, Aaron still felt a bit reluctant to end the conversation.
Clearly, the current Mae had once again exceeded his surface–level understanding of her.
Aaron raised her hand and looked at her watch. “It’s almost time for dinner. Shall I invite Ms. Lee to
dinner?”
Without much hesitation, Mae shook her head in refusal, “Mr. Foster, there’s no need to be so courteous. I have some matters to attend to, and since we’ve already established cooperation, there will be plenty of opportunities to have meals together. I’ll treat you next time.”
Seeing her decline, Aaron didn’t insist, “Alright, then I’ll count on Ms. Lee for the next meal.”
Aaron escorted Mae downstairs. Just before parting, he called out to her again, “Ms. Lee, it’s not easy to get a taxi at this hour. How about I give you a ride home?”
Mae was about to decline, but Mr. Foster preempted her, “No need to be polite, Ms. Lee. It’s indeed difficult to get a taxi at this time.”
Seeing his persistence, Mae didn’t want to refuse again. She thanked him and said, “Thank you, Mr.
Foster.”
After getting into the car, Mae provided Aaron with the address of the Langley Family Martial Arts Academy. Hearing that, Aaron chuckled, “What a coincidence, the place I live at is in the same direction as Ms. Lee’s. Now you don’t need to be so polite.”
Mae smiled in response. She realized that Mr. Foster was more approachable than she had imagined. She had thought that scientists like him might carry an air of arrogance that made them difficult to approach.
An hour later-
“I appreciate your help this time, Mr. Foster.”
Mae expressed her gratitude. After bidding him farewell and undoing her seatbelt to exit the car, she had only taken a few steps when he called out to her again, “Ms. Lee.”
Mae stopped and turned around, only to see Mr. Foster raising his hand, indicating for her to come
closer.
Baffled, Mae approached him, maintaining a basic social distance despite his mysterious expression.
Inside the car, Aaron sat with shrewd and warm eyes, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as he looked at the woman standing by the car window. He said, “Regarding the project at Gray Corporation last night, I was also involved. If Mr. Gray goes against his promise to you, could it possibly affect me?”

Mae’s expression slightly froze, and she soon remembered the warning she had given Peter Gray last night. Unable to contain her laughter, she jokingly replied, “Mr. Foster, rest assured. If it affects you, I’ll make sure you’re mentally prepared in advance.”
Aaron pressed his lips together, and his smile grew a bit wider. “Then I can be at ease.”
After saying their goodbyes, Aaron droves away.
Once he had left, Mae turned around and continued walking towards the gate of the Langley Family Martial Arts Academy. However, she was stopped once again.
“Madam.”
The familiar yet distant address reached Mae’s ears, causing her to instinctively halt and turn. around. Seeing Mr. Sands respectfully approach her, she nodded slightly, “Mr. Smith, the CEO is waiting for you in the car. He wants to have a talk with you.”
