Chapter 41: Not Willing to Gamble with the Child’s Life
This was also the reason why Mae returned to Sofitel City to approach Mr. Foster.
“This disease can cause patients to fall into a deep and unpredictable sleep at any time, which might be permanent, or they could wake up at any moment.”
Mae continued, “And only by modifying the disease–causing genes, rewriting the gene sequence, can this disease be completely cured.”
Mr. Foster nodded, “The gene therapy you mentioned yesterday, using modified viral liquid to inject into the body for gene modification, I discussed it with a few researchers last night. It’s indeed. feasible, but it still needs a period of data and clinical experiments to support it. It might not be achievable in the short term.”
Mae had thought about this aspect in advance, so hearing Mr. Foster’s response, she didn’t push it. She nodded and said, “I understand that. I’m hoping to collaborate with Mr. Foster on the research and development of this gene therapy. If there are financial requirements, you can let me know anytime.”
Mr. Foster wasn’t overly polite either, “I’m glad to collaborate with Ms. Lee.”
At this point, Mr. Foster suddenly paused and said, “There’s something I need to tell you.”
“Please go ahead.”
Mr. Foster pursed his thin lips, and after a few seconds of contemplation, he said, “Several gene therapy projects in our company, your ex–husband, Smith’s Corporation CEO, Mark Smith, has invested in all of them.”
Hearing the name Mark unexpectedly from his mouth, Mae was stunned for several seconds before suddenly realizing, “Mark Smith?”
Mr. Foster nodded, “If this project gets underway, I believe that if Smith Corporation participates, it could significantly accelerate the progress of this project.”
At this point, Mr. Foster looked at Mae thoughtfully and added, “If you find it inconvenient, we can handle this project separately.”
Mae frowned. She hadn’t thought about getting entangled with Mark again. However, as Mr. Foster pointed out, with Mark’s financial resources and connections, having him invest in this project would likely bring more benefits than drawbacks for her and Little Jane.
She didn’t want to get entangled with Mark any further, and she definitely didn’t want to gamble with her child’s life. Even though there were currently medications that could temporarily delay the onset. of the disease, every additional day was an added risk for Little Jane. How could she dare to gamble with that?
Furthermore, even though Smith Corporation had invested, Mark wasn’t personally involved in the drug development. Their opportunities for direct interaction were limited.
With these thoughts in mind, she shook her head at Mr. Foster and said, “There’s no inconvenience. I’ll only be participating in the research and development of this project. For other matters, I’ll trouble Mr. Foster to handle them.”
Mr. Foster nodded slightly, “Ms. Lee is too kind.”

As he spoke, he extended his hand, “So… a pleasant cooperation?”
Mae smiled and shook hands with Mr. Foster, “A pleasant cooperation.”
Not far away, hidden in the shadows, reporters found a good angle to take several pictures of them.
“It’s still early now. If you are available, you can visit our laboratory and discuss the details of our cooperation to avoid unnecessary complications in the future.”
Mr. Foster suggested.
Mae thought his proposal made sense and didn’t refuse, “Sure, I won’t mind.”
Afterward, Mae got into Mr. Foster’s car and headed towards the research building of Beyond Technologies.
The research building was not far from the coffee shop they had just been at, and they arrived there. quickly.
