Chapter 40: Queen of Bad Movies
Unlike the formal attire he wore at the banquet last night, Mr. Foster was dressed today in a light gray casual suit. He wore gold–rimmed glasses perched on his prominent nose, giving him an air of elegance and meticulousness.
“Mr. Foster, no need to be polite. I just arrived as well, Mae smiled slightly and didn’t overly scrutinize
him.
Mr. Foster raised his slender index finger and lightly adjusted his glasses. He looked at Mae and smiled, “As far as I know, Miss Lee used to work in the arts, but I didn’t expect you to also be involved
in the field of medicine.”
Mae understood that Mr. Foster’s use of “arts” to describe her entertainment industry career was a more euphemistic way of putting it. In the past, she had taken on any advertisement she could to earn money. In the end, she was “honored” with the title of “top–tier vase” and “queen of bad movies.”
Compared to the word “arts,” she had quite a long way to go.
She had looked into Mr. Foster’s background. He was the CEO of a biotechnology company and also held a prestigious position as a senior researcher in the International Pharmaceutical Association. He played a leading role in the development of several drugs in his company.
The more accomplished a person like him was, the less he would think of someone like her, who had made a living purely based on her looks. Therefore, Mr. Foster’s polite and subtle words made Mae have a slightly better impression of him.
She wasn’t embarrassed; she just followed his lead and said, “I’m not involved in the arts anymore. and am considering changing my career.”
Coming from someone else, this statement might have sounded audacious, but Aaron had witnessed firsthand how easily Mae had dealt with the malfunctioning robots from the Gray Corporation last night. As a result, there was no hint of disdain on his face.
Aaron calmly observed Mae. Her face was naturally flawless and attractive, and what intrigued him more was that this seemingly young woman held hidden secrets that were begging to be uncovered.
It wasn’t just as simple as being a “vase.” Her discussions about drug development proposals from last night, as well as her programming skills, were evidence of that.
Thinking of this, Aaron raised an eyebrow meaningfully, and a warm glint appeared in his eyes as he said, “I hope you don’t mind my curiosity, Miss Lee. Why do you suddenly want to collaborate with me on drug research and development?”
Although Aaron’s pharmaceutical company had a certain reputation in the industry, it wasn’t top tier in the domestic market. The points Mae had mentioned to him yesterday were relevant even for larger pharmaceutical conglomerates to consider partnering with her.
Mae pondered for a moment. Since she was planning to collaborate with Mr. Foster, she had no intention of hiding anything from him, so she replied truthfully, “I’ve researched your pharmaceutical company, and it specializes in developing drugs for rare diseases. That’s why I want to collaborate. with you.”
At this point, she paused for a moment. The once bright glint in her eyes dimmed slightly, a change. that Mr, Foster noticed but didn’t inquire about. He listened as Mae continued, “My daughter has a

rare genetic disease called ADS, which is inherited maternally. This disease causes her to fall into unpredictable deep sleep states as she grows older.”
Children who have this disease generally don’t live past the age of 10.
Mae couldn’t bring herself to say this out loud, and the depth of her gaze became even more
obscure.
This disease is incredibly rare. There are less than ten documented cases of the same condition worldwide due to its extremely low occurrence rate. Because of the small sample size, no pharmaceutical company in the world has taken up the task of developing a targeted medication for
this illness.
