Chapter 36: No Time to Watch Your Performance Here
Upon hearing her voice, several people all instinctively turned to look at her. The elderly man in the lead, after a moment of silence, put on a stern face and carried an air of arrogance as he said:
“Look at the friends you associate with. Disregarding respect for elders, making an old man like me. wait outside for so long. Associating with someone of such poor manners, be careful not to be influenced negatively by her.”
As soon as he spoke, he began reprimanding Mae. Mae raised her lips slightly and stepped forward, saying, “So, it’s the old man. Do you have something to discuss here?”
Her nonchalant attitude immediately provoked the already impatient old man, “What’s this attitude? What did you just call me?”
“Old man, is there something wrong?” Mae kept a smile on her face. The next moment, her beautiful eyes squinted slightly, “Or perhaps, Old man feels that my address is too polite. Someone like you doesn’t deserve such respect?”
“You…”
The old man’s expression suddenly turned fierce. However, before he could retort, Mae quickly interjected, “I never expected that after all these years, your self–awareness would be so clear.”
“You wretch!”
Mr. Lee angrily pounded his cane on the ground several times, pointing at Mae and scolding, “Your unfilial brat! I am your paternal grandfather. How dare you speak to me like this? Do you still have any respect for your grandfather? Is this how your mother raised you?”
Hearing this, Mae chuckled, a mocking smile not quite reaching her eyes. “It seems that the old man has grown quite senile over the years. I’ve long severed ties with the Lee family. You even published it in the newspaper back then. Have you forgotten?
“You…”
Mae’s words left Mr. Lee momentarily choked, and for a while, he couldn’t come up with a retort.
After being mocked so disrespectfully by Mae, he couldn’t bear it. He immediately wanted to reprimand her, but he was stopped by the young woman next to him.
“Grandfather, it’s been so many years since we’ve seen Mae. We came this time to bring her back home. I know you’re concerned about the hardships she’s faced outside all these years, but your tone is too heavy. Now that Mae is back, please talk to her nicely.”
Mae lifted her gaze slightly, glanced at the young woman, and then averted her eyes and continued walking. Over the years, apart from the time she married Mark and they came to establish a connection which she promptly rejected, they had never come to find her. Suddenly showing up today, there couldn’t be anything good about it.
Mr. Lee thought about the purpose of his visit and reluctantly softened his expression. He walked up to Mae, sighed, and said:
“I know you’re still harboring resentment towards your grandfather and your father, but you’re still a part of the Lee family. What’s in the past should remain in the past. Grandfather came here today to bring you back home. From now on, we are all family
“Old man.”
Mae impatiently interrupted Mr. Lee words, “Your acting skills aren’t quite impressive, and I don’t appreciate them. How about you get to the point? I have a lot of things to do and no time to watch your performance here.”
Faced with Mae’s impolite attitude, Mr. Lee and the young man and woman all had stern expressions.
However, considering the current situation of the Lee family, Mr. Lee managed to control his temper. He looked at Mae and said in a serious tone:
“Mae, Grandfather really came this time to take you back home. No matter what, you’re still my granddaughter. Now that you’ve divorced Mark, how long can a young girl like you wander outside? Home is your safe haven.”
