Chapter 34: Does He Still Have Feelings for Mae?
Being able to work at the Smith family came with salaries, benefits, and perks that couldn’t be compared to other places. Even if they were just junior receptionists, it still sounded more prestigious than other jobs.
Now being dismissed over such a trivial matter, how could they accept it?
“CEO, we know we were wrong. We won’t do it again next time.”
With a tearful tone, several of them apologized, but Mr. Smith showed no intention of listening. He turned around and walked away.
Turning to Robert for help, they pleaded, “Robert, we really didn’t mean it…”
Compared to Mr. Smith, Robert was relatively more compassionate. After a brief hesitation, he said, “Although Ms. Lee is divorced from the CEO, it doesn’t mean you can disrespect her.”
He didn’t seem to be interceding for the receptionists. After finishing that sentence, he added, “You can pack up your things and leave. The Smith family won’t shortchange you in terms of salary and compensation for your services.”
After saying this, Robert left as well, not even bothering to acknowledge Jennifer.
Back in the day, even when Mae had a mediocre relationship with Mark, Robert, as an assistant, had treated Ms. Lee with courtesy and respect, as if she were the CEO’s wife. In contrast, Jennifer felt she was being treated too coldly.
At this point, even if Jennifer had the thickest skin, she couldn’t possibly follow them up. Thinking about Robert words just now, her expression darkened.
What did he mean? Was he implying that even though Mark and Mae were divorced, he still had feelings for her?
That was an enormous joke.
Jennifer sneered inwardly, and her jealousy and resentment towards Mae intensified involuntarily. Looking at the expressions of the people around her, each subtle facial expression seemed to be mocking her, which only deepened her displeasure.
She glanced at the receptionists who looked pitiful and about to burst into tears. Her gaze darkened, but when she lifted her eyes again, she transformed into the image of a caring older sister for her fans. She approached them with a look of concern and said, “You guys were too impulsive. You should know that Mark’s temper is like this. How about this, once he’s calmed down a bit, I’ll go and intercede for you.”
After all, who would remember them after this incident had blown over? Being the good person for a
moment wouldn’t hurt.
Jennnifer’s words didn’t make the receptionists think too much. If anything, after hearing her, they felt even more certain that they had chosen the right idol. Jennifer was truly an angelic sister, willing to intercede with Mark on behalf of a few junior receptionists.
One of them immediately shook her head and said, “No need to trouble yourself, Ms. Jennifer. You’re so kind. We didn’t make a mistake in stanning you.”
The receptionists knew Mr. Smith’s bad temper all too well. How could they let Ms. Jennifer upset

him just for their sake?
“Ms. Jennifer, we didn’t know that even after Mr. Smith divorced Ms. Lee, he still cared about her so much. If we had known, we wouldn’t have stopped her.”
Who would have thought that one call from Mae would make Mark come down personally to meet her? The receptionists were regretting their decision.
Hearing these words, Jennifer’s unhappiness was clearly evident. Her eyes also darkened slightly. However, she soon smiled and continued, “Last night, Mark attended an event, and coincidentally, Ms. Lee was there too. She mistakenly took Mark’s phone, and she returned it today. You also know how many business secrets are in Mark’s phone. He was anxious to get it back, but you prevented her from taking it upstairs. He had to come down himself to retrieve it. Do you think he wouldn’t be upset?”
In just a few sentences, she overturned everyone’s previous thoughts.
