Chapter 3
Indeed, who would let their loved one become someone else’s stepmother?
“I’ve already drafted the divorce agreement, and I’ve signed it. Mr. Smith, take a look, and if there are no objections, you can sign it too,” Mae’s voice continued.
Mark finally glanced at the divorce agreement handed to him by Mae. Her signature was on it, looking very elegant.
“I don’t ask for much. I don’t need half of the shared property of the husband and wife after marriage. I just want ten billion in cash. As for the rest, including my shares in Smith Corporation, I’ll return them to you.”
Ten billion might be an astronomical figure for others, but for someone like Mark, who was worth hundreds of billions, Mae didn’t seem greedy at all. After all, her 5% stake in Smith Corporation alone was worth more than ten billion.
Seeing her negotiate so professionally and using the distant “Mr. Smith” when addressing him, sounded particularly grating to Mark’s ears.
“Since the child has been aborted, I never intended to divorce you,” Mark said calmly, his eyes deep and cold, beautiful yet chilling. They were eyes without a heart, so how could he be deceived by such eyes?
Mae smiled and shook her head at Mark’s misunderstanding. “Mr. Smith, you got it wrong. It’s not that you want a divorce; it’s me…”
She pointed at herself. “I want a divorce from you.”
After speaking, she stood up from her chair. “If Mr. Smith refuses to sign, then we’ll go to court. With my marriage certificate, I can get more than just ten billion from you. Mr. Smith should think it over carefully.”
Her firm and resolute eyes, as she asked for the divorce, made Mark feel a sudden inexplicable annoyance.
He adjusted the perfectly straight tie in front of his chest and said in a composed tone, “Do you really want a divorce?”
“Do you think there’s anything here that could make me stay?” Mae asked with a smile, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes.
Mark felt that she was just being stubborn because he had asked her to abort the child. How could she really want a divorce when she loved him so much?
Fine, let her be if she was in a bad mood. After he sorted out his work, he would properly coax her. “All right, sult yourself,” he said.
He picked up the pen and signed his name on the divorce agreement.
“I’ll arrange for the ten billion to be transferred to your account.”
“Thank you, Mr. Smith.”
The smile on Mae’s face became more intense but also somewhat unsettling. “Although I spent only one year with Mr. Smith, it exchanged for ten billion, I didn’t lose out.”
With those words, she put on her sunglasses, covering most of her pale face, and didn’t look at Mark again. She turned and left without looking back.
Watching Mae’s figure, and the office door that she had closed behind her, Mark’s heart suddenly tightened, and an inexplicable pain surged.
He tugged at his tie again and suppressed the uneasiness that kept surging up. He buried himself in work.
He never expected that after Mae left, they would not meet again until four years later. Four years later…
S City International Airport.
A woman with long hair pushed a medium–sized suitcase out from the arrival gate. On top of the suitcase sat a three–year–old girl, her chubby legs swinging.
With shiny black hair in an apple cut style, against her fair and rosy round face, she looked even more adorable.
Two shallow dimples appeared at the corners of her mouth. When she smiled, the dimples would sink slightly, making people’s hearts soften involuntarily.
