Chapter 2
Looking up, the wall clock indicated the date:
January 1, 2222, New Year’s Day.
Sure enough…
She had… come back?
For a moment, she couldn’t recover from the shock of being revived. It took a while before she raised her head again, and in her previously bewildered eyes, a hint of determination appeared.
Smith Corporation, CEO’s office.
The office door was knocked, and the secretary cautiously pushed it open. “CEO, Madam is here”
Mark’s eyes remained calm, but they flickered slightly when he heard the news. His eyebrows. furrowed.
“CEO, I’ll leave first.” Robert Sands, the special assistant, carefully glanced at the man behind the desk with his cold and handsome features and deeply furrowed brows, then whispered.
“Hmm.”
As Robert Sands left, Mae walked in. He nodded slightly at her, “Madam.”
Mae gave a faint nod and sat down in front of Mark.
Mark observed Mae’s overly pale face, her thin figure, carrying a touch of fragility. Her beautiful and captivating eyes were gazing at him without any ripples, causing the frown on his face to tighten
even more.
“The surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. Why did you come out today?” Mark asked coldly, his eyes showing no emotion, not even a blink when mentioning the surgery.
Mae felt that she must have been blind in her back then to believe him.
Before the accident, she asked him why he insisted on aborting their child, and he said he didn’t like it, and she believed him. In order to save their marriage, she followed his words and got rid of the child. She firmly believed that as long as the marriage remained, Mark would eventually want a child, they were still young, and there would be opportunities to have another child in the future.
Who knew that after the abortion, the doctor told her that she could never conceive again?
Over the next year, she endured the disdainful eyes and sarcastic remarks from Mark’s mother, enduring the cold ridicule from Jennifer time and time again. Yet she firmly believed that as long as she held onto this marriage, it would be enough.
She deluded herself, hiding again and again behind a shell of lies, until her death. Mark left her to save Jennifer, brutally tearing open the shell of self–deception and showing it to her, telling her how foolish she had been.
“I agree to divorce.”
Putting her thoughts aside, she handed a divorce agreement to him, saying, “I’ve already signed it.”
Mark’s face instantly darkened. Without looking at the divorce agreement, he looked at Mae. His cold eyes were filled with determination
Chapter 2
“You still refuse to abort this child?”
He impatiently pinched his brow, “Didn’t I say that even without a child, you will always be the young mistress of the Smith family?”
Hearing that he still adamantly did not want this child, even if she agreed to sign the divorce
agreement, it still couldn’t make him change his mind about not wanting a child. Mae’s eyes revealed a touch of mockery.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Smith, this child won’t hinder you two.”
Under Mark’s cold gaze, she handed him another document, “I signed the consent form for the surgery, and I’ve already aborted the child.”
As she said this, Mae noticed that Mark’s expression, which had always been devoid of emotions, visibly relaxed. It was as if this child’s existence was his biggest obstacle.
Mae’s eyes filled with even more scornful laughter. It seemed that this child was indeed the biggest hindrance to him being with Jennifer.
