Chapter 21
By the way, this woman used to be an actress, and she played calm too well.
Yes, she must be playing a hard–to–get drama in front of him.
Mark snorted, trying to comfort himself.
“Mae, don’t speak to me in such a tone; I don’t like it.”
He spoke with a sullen face, trying to use such domineering to cover up the panic that kept overflowing in his heart. His heart rate quickened imperceptibly.
Mae laughed angrily at his words. She threw Mark’s hand away and rubbed her wrist. She sneered:
“You don’t like it. How is that any of my concern?”
She raised her lips and suddenly took a step forward towards Mark. The close distance seemed to be filled with a trace of ambiguity. Mark lowered his eyebrows and looked at her.
But in the next second, he heard Mae say, “Your preferences are none of my business!”
After she finished speaking, she took two steps back and suddenly opened up the distance. His heart unconsciously surged with a trace of loss.
Mae squatted down, picked up her phone, and turned to leave.
Only then did Mark realise that her dress was too thin and that her close–fitting evening dress would
not keep her warm.
His pupils shrank slightly, and he did not care about the unhappiness between the two of them just now. He took off his coat and took a step forward, draped it over Mae’s shoulders.
She instinctively dodged, but she did not dodge successfully. She only heard Mark’s indisputable voice from above her head as he put his jacket on her and said, “Don’t take it off!”
Mae stopped her movements and looked up at Mark. She was unexpectedly obedient, “Thank you,
Mr. Smith.”
The cashmere jacket’s warm body temperature eased Mae’s trembling body.
At this moment, a taxi drove over. She quickly stopped it. Before getting in, she pulled off Mark’s jacket and threw it in a perfect parabola to the right. The cashmere coat was worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. She accurately threw it into the trashcan not far to the right, got into the car, and left without looking back.
Mark’s face instantly turned black. During the whole process, Mae did not look back at him.
Mark laughed angrily and scolded, “You bastard!”
At this moment, he could not even tell if he was angry or if he was mixing it with other inconspicuous
emotions.
He did not expect this woman to be so angry. Four years later, the anger from that year had not disappeared.
At this time, Mark did not realise that the girl who had been all eyes on him back then did not want him anymore.

After getting into the car, the smile that had always been on Mae’s face faded a little.
In her mind, she could not help but recall the image of Mark supporting Jennifer.
He looked at her with cold eyes, and his voice was cold.
It was so obvious. Where did she get her confidence from in her previous life? At the moment of her drowning, she still believed that Mark would come to save her first.
As she thought about it, she suddenly laughed at herself and touched the place in her heart that was swollen with pain. It had been four years, how could this place still hurt so much?
“Mr Smith, did Mae find an excuse to pester you again?”
As soon as Mark returned to the banquet hall, some of his servants rushed over.
“Is there any need to ask? If she doesn’t come to see Mark, why was she here today?”
The crowd laughed.
