Chapter 137 You’ve Expected It Before
From the beginning, she doesn’t have any intentions on helping her handle the side effects of the drug.
She had enough committing a lot of stupidity in the past and now she can’t let this precious life of hers to go to waste.
“Oh, yes!”
Mae looked at Jennifer’s pale face as if she had suddenly remembered something.
“You took saffron.”
The moment Mae said those words, the blood on Jennifer’s face faded.
“What saffron? Mae Lee, stop lying here!”
Mrs. Smith’s expression suddenly changed. She pointed her finger at the tip of Mae’s nose and said these words sharply.
Mae lowered her eyes and glanced at Mrs. Smith’s fingers.
Her tone was not serious.
She instinctively withdrew her hand, as if Mae would really break her fingers if she took one step slowly.
“What…what saffron? What are you trying to say?”
The guilty conscience on Mrs. Smith’s face could not be hidden at all. Mark looked at her, his deep eyes slowly narrowing, and his facial features gradually becoming colder.
Mae did not answer her, rather looked at Mark and said,
“Saffron has the effect of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. It is a taboo for pregnant women. Judging from Miss Jennifer’s pulse just now, she took saffron yesterday. I believe that with your ability, Mr. Smith, it is not difficult to find out the source of saffron.
When Jennifer heard the word ‘pulse‘, she subconsciously hid her hands behind her. She never knew that Mae could be so scary.
Just by taking her pulse, she could tell that she had taken saffron, and even the exact time?
She looked pale as she looked at Mrs. Smith as if she was asking her how should they get out from this mess.
However, Mrs. Smith was also flustered. She did not expect that Mae Lee had this capability, but she had clearly asked a doctor before that unless there was medicine residue, others would not know what Jennifer had eaten or taken.
As Mae said, once Mark really sent someone to investigate, not only would Jennifer be in trouble, but even her biological mother. Mark would not easily forgive her.
“We don’t know what saffron is at all! Mae Lee, don’t shift the blame to us. Stop denying it! That thing that happened to the poor child was definitely your own hand’s doing. You can’t seriously get out of
this.”
“Oh.”

Regrettably, Mae did not show the slightest bit of concern nor appeared anxious at all. She only snorted and said, “Then call the police.”
At the same time, she looked at Mark. “My evidence has been handed over to you, CEO Smith. If you still suspect me and have sufficient evidence, feel free to arrest me.”
With that, she raised her hand and looked at her watch. “Alright, since the child was gone, I have nothing to do here. I’ll be leaving first.”
After she finished speaking, she walked towards the door. After two steps, she stopped again, “Oh, by the way, I still have to stay in Sofitel for a while. During that period, I just hope our paths won’t crossed. Mrs. Smith, you’d better get rid of your stupid behavior. You see I’ve become a
bad–tempered over the past few years, and I’m afraid I don’t have that much tolerance for idiots.”
“You dare to call me an idiot!”
Mrs. Smith’s facial features twisted with anger, and her eyes were filled with fury when she looked at Mae.
But Mae just stared at her indifferently, and said, “I hope Mrs. Smith will always heed my advice.”
With that, she opened the door and walked out.
When the door closed, her smiling face disappeared and was immediately replaced by a much colder facade.
“Mark, don’t believe that girl. The child was so important to me. How could I possibly ingest such thing called saffron?”
After Mae left, Mrs. Smith looked at Mark, who had not spoken for a while.
She was nervous and afraid, but at the same time she can’t deny that she felt a bit mad inside her.
It was clear that she was the mother here and he was the son, but as a mother, she could not receive any respect from him. Still, she’s smart enough not to provoke his son or else he would deal with her later on.
“Mom, try to fix this yourself.”
Mark coldly dropped those words and walked away with a sullen face. Jennifer was petrified on the bed, and her mouth was trembling as she muttered:
“It’s over, I’m finished. Mark won’t let me escape from this, there’s no way he’ll let me avoid this…..”
Hearing her murmuring, Mrs. Smith quickly stepped forward to comfort her.
“Jenny, don’t be afraid. With Auntie here, I won’t let Mark do anything to you. Don’t worry, you can take good care of your body now. I’ll take care of the rest.”
Jennifer recalled the expression on Mark’s face when he left. Although he did not say anything to her. she knew that she was done for.
If he had said one more word to her, she might still have room to argue for herself, but he did not even say a word to her.
“Auntie, you must help me, you must help me…”
“Yes, yes, don’t worry. I don’t think he would dare to touch his own mother just for the sake of that
woman.”

Mrs. Smith’s expression twisted and she felt a little cold.
“Jenny, let’s stop messing around. We were too guilty at first to be convince with Mae’s words.” Jennifer raised her head from her embrace. “Auntie, what do you mean?”
“We made this matter so secretly that Mark might not be able to find out. Mae said that you took saffron, right? Where’s the evidence? As long as you insist that you, have done nothing, as long as there is no evidence, Mark will not believe her. Do you understand?”
Mrs. Smith was confident in her words, but Jennifer was extremely worried.
Obviously, Mrs. Smith had underestimated her son’s skills and abilities.
At that time, as Mark’s mother, she would be easily spared, but what about her?
In his eyes, she was not even an ordinary friend. If he knew that it was because of her that the child was lost, he would never let her escape from this easily.
But now, she could only pin her hopes on her Aunt Rebecca, hoping that she would really help her.
“Mae.”
After exiting the hospital, Mae had just opened the car door when she heard Mark’s voice from the distance.
She turned around and saw that he was walking closer to her.
The dark cashmere coat made him taller and slender.
The white snow also added a touch of coolness to his originally cold and thin aura.
He walked in front of Mae, put his hands on his coat’s pockets, and looked down at her. She was intrigued as to how his intricate and profound eyes were now scrutinizing her.
“Why is Mr. Smith looking at me like this?”
She asked raising her eyebrows. He didn’t seem to be worried at all about the charges against Jennifer and the others.
“Did you expect this to happen?”
Mark asked in a low voice, his eyes showing an unknown complexity.
