Oscar insisted on coming to the hospital to visit me. I couldn’t refuse, so I agreed.
“Irene, you’ve lost weight again” Oscar said with worry as soon as he saw me. “Are you having a tough time lately?”
He knew what was going on in my family, so even if I didnt respond to him recently, he didn’t hassle me. He was worried about my mood.
I looked at my arm Indeed, I was thinner. If this kept up, I would be nothing but skin and bones.
“No matter how much I eat, I can’t gain weight. How about you? How have you been?” I asked, smiling from my hospital bed.
Oscar sighed and said, “I’m planning to move to another city for work. Bonnie hasn’t stopped pestering me, and she ruined my job.”
I was shocked to hear that Bonnie had messed up Oscar’s job.
Bonnie was really brutal to Oscar. She previously had someone beat him up, and now she destroyed his job. She was obviously trying to make it impossible for Oscar to continue living in Rosemont.
“Do you have any plans?” I asked with concern,
“I’m not sure yet, I’ll take it one step at a time. Irene, I might not be able to visit you as often,” Oscar said, his eyes full of reluctance.
I reassured him, “Transportation is so convenient nowadays. It’s not hard to meet. Once your life is stable, I can come to see you. You know I’m having a hard time now”
I concluded with a self-deprecating laugh.
Oscar quickly nodded. “Everything will be okay, Irene. I’ll work hard and make something of myself. I’ll help you as much as I can in the future. You can see me as your little brother, and I’ll treat you like my big sister’
Oscars words were comforting. I believe in his character and abilities. Even if he changed jobs, he would definitely make a name for himself.
However, I never thought that this would be a wish that could never be fulfilled.
Three days later, I was discharged from the hospital.
The first thing I did after I was discharged was to go back to work and then meet with the president of SinoGems Corporation to discuss signing a
contract.
Like a fortune teller, Neil accurately predicted what I would do next, so he showed up at the company entrance on time, waiting to go in with me.
Rubbing my temples, I said resignedly, “Neil, you don’t have to accompany me. As long as you refuse SinoGems Corporation, they will probably sign with
me.”
I’m having lunch with Louis Aldridge near the company. You go about your business, and I’ll go to lunch,” Neil said, leaning back comfortably in the back
seat of the car.
Bailey, our driver, couldn’t help but glance back at me.
The drive from Whitmore Co. to my company was not short. If Neil wanted to have lunch with Louis, he could have met him there. Why did he have to
hitch a ride with me?
He really had too much time on his hands.
But I didn’t intend to say anything more. As long as he was willing to refuse to sign with SinoGems Corporation, that was fine. It wasn’t as if he was helping me, so I didn’t feel any obligation.
“Bailey, let’s go,” I ordered.
“Okay, Mr. Finch,” Bailey started the car, heading towards the agreed hotel.
On the way, I didn’t talk much with Neil, but my mind was filled with thoughts. I couldnt help but think about the conspiracy theory Stella had mentioned before. Could Louis be the one who leaked the scandal about Whitmore Co’s illegitimate child? If it was him, would Neil find out?
When we arrived at the hotel, I saw Louis and Malinda as soon as I got out of the car. Were they still together? That was surprising! I always felt that Louis didn’t really like Malinda, and women’s intuition was often accurate.
“Neil, you’re here!” Louis came over,
still maintaining his gentlemanly and image. He could show a friendly and cordial smile even to someone as awkward as me, “Ms. Finch, long time no see.”
I nodded and said, “Yes, I’ve been busy lately.”
Standing next to Louis, Malinda said sarcastically. “Your family is in decline.
Louis immediately reprimanded Malinda softly, “Malinda, dont speak like
must be having a hard time. I really sympathize with you.”
I’m just telling the truth. She’s clinging to Neil again, isn’t she? Her family must be in trouble, hoping Nell can help. Why are you getting mad at me?” Malinda replied sharply.
I was used to these taunts, but Neil’s face had turned very ugly if it weren’t for the fact that Malinda was Louis’s girlfriend, he would definitely have given her a taste of her own medicine.
If you cant speak nicely, then shut up.” he said coldly
Louis looked somewhat embarrassed, and Malinda was silent
I didn’t have time to chat with them, so I went to meet the president of SinoGems Corporation first.
As Neil had said, after Whitmore Co. refused SinoGems Corporation’s invitation, my company was the first they considered.
Despite some recent problems, we have a deep-rooted reputation and a strong understanding of the market. After signing a contract smoothly with the
president of SinoGems Corporation, we continued to have dinner and chat. During our conversation, we talked about his dealings with Whitmore Co
“What?” The president of SinoGems Corporation was a bit puzzled, “I haven’t heard that Whitmore Co. is getting into this field. But I did meet with Mr. Whitmore before, and we discussed some business matters.”
“You haven’t heard about this?” I was also a bit puzzled.
“Never heard of it. But you know, Mr. Whitmore does think highly of you. I was going to sign with someone else, but Mr. Whitmore broke it down for me and said your company is the best fit for us, said the president of SinoGems Corporation, straight to the point.
So Neil did help me after all, only he didn’t tell me.
I felt a bit conflicted. I didn’t want his help, but inadvertently, I’d leveraged his influence. Even though he voluntarily helped me, something about it didn’t sit right with me.
But now, I didn’t have the guts to refuse his help because the contract was signed, and I couldn’t breach it just because of Neil.
After dinner with the head honcho of SinoGems Corporation, he left first, and I stuck around for a bit before getting up.
My luck was just going south. As soon as I opened the door, I saw the back of Malinda, who was on the phone, “Hurry up to the private room. Neil is here too. How can you give up so easily? If you like him, go get him!”
She must be talking to Bonnie, but wasn’t Bonnie supposed to be at the police station?
I was planning to shut the door and leave after they returned to the private room.
“Irene!” Malinda spotted me with a clear look of annoyance on her face.
I decided to shut the door again, ignore Malinda, and make my exit.
She let out a cold laugh behind me, “You’re in your thirties, but still so charming. Neil even got Bonnie sent to the station for you. You sure know how to play the game!”
I took it as her stirring up trouble for no reason and ignored her. But as the elevator door opened, Bonnie appeared before me.
“Scared you, didn’t I?” Bonnie stepped out of the elevator, looking at me with disdain, “You thought I was a pushover, huh? Neil can send me to the station, but someone will always bail me out.”
“I really don’t care what happens to you, so stop these pointless acts,” I replied indifferently, then stepped into the elevator.
