Chapter 219
My father was out of town for work, so I first called Stella.
“Stella, where are you?” I asked groggily from my bed.
I’m at the hospital Quincy started throwing up and having diarrhea out of nowhere, which scared the crap out of me!” Stella responded.
“What the hell? You better get him checked out properly I advised her worriedly, then hung up.
Next, I dialed Alicia Rider, who was on her way to a business trip.
When I called Barbara, she was having dinner with her parents and Silas.
Since everyone seemed busy, I finally got through to Russel.
The phone rang for a while before someone picked it up. I quickly asked, “Russel, are you free?”
“Sorry, he’s in the shower.” A young female voice replied.
I was taken aback and quickly checked the name on my phone. It was indeed Russel. But why would a young woman answer his phone?
Before I could ask, she hung up. I was already feeling sick, and this just made my mood plummet.
I didn’t want to doubt Russel’s loyalty, but his family was against us being together, so I couldn’t help but overthink.
When I tried to call him again, his phone was off.
Just as I was about to go downstairs to find some fever medicine. Neil called.
I hung up immediately I leaned on the wall and the stair railings as I made my way downstairs, then began searching for medicine in the living room. Suddenly, there was a strong knock on the door. I glanced at the front door of the living room and heard Neil yelling outside, “Irene, open up!”
How did he get inside the yard? I frowned, then remembered | hadn’t locked the yard gate last night.
I didn’t answer him; I just continued looking for medicine.
“If you don’t open the door, I’ll call the property management! Neil warned.
I scoffed. The property management wasn’t his to boss around; could he really get them to open my door?
Then it was quiet outside. I collapsed onto the couch, exhausted. I didn’t know where my mom kept the medicine box, so I couldnt find the fever medicine.
I had no choice but to order medicine delivery
Just as I was about to place the order on my phone, I heard the front door being unlocked.
I was surprised, then saw the door being pushed open. A property staff politely said to Neil, “Mr. Whitmore, the door is open,”

I thought I should get a new door
Neil walked in and casually closed the door behind him. I wanted to confront him seriously, but my discomfort made my words weak, “What are you doing here?”
Without saying a word, Neil walked over, bent down, and put his hand on my forehead to check if I had a fever.
He quickly scolded me, “You’re burning up! Are you trying to cook yourself?”
“None of your business I’ve already ordered medicine. “I jerked away from Neil’s hand
Frowning, Neil went to the kitchen, came back with some pills and a glass of water, and handed them to me.
Seeing the pills in his hand, I couldn’t help but ask, “How do you know where we keep our medicine?”
Nell replied, “I saw your mom get them from there the last time I was here.”
I was speechless. Turned out that the person who was actually being careless was me. I rarely paid attention to such details. I didn’t expect Neil, my ex-husband, who seldom came over, to remember.
Health is most important. I can’t harm my body just because I’m upset.
“Thanks.”I took the pills and water and gulped them down.
The medicine didn’t kick in immediately. I still felt unwell. Nell watching me made me feel even more uncomfortable. I said, “I’ll be fine after the medicine works You can go now.”
But Neil sat down on the couch and asked, “Why didnt you think to ask for my help?”
How did he know I contacted so many people?
“Mitch told me. When you were talking to Stella, she noticed something was off with your voice, so she asked Alicia and Barbara Neil explained
I closed my eyes to rest and lazily responded, “I thought I could tough it out.”
Neil opened his phone camera and turned the screen towards me, “Look at yourself! You’re as red as a monkey’s butt!”
I looked at my reflection in the camera. My cheeks were indeed as red as a monkey’s butt.
I didn’t say anything; I just closed my eyes again to sleep, but my stomach soon started growling. I hadn’t eaten anything since I woke up, so I was definitely hungry now.
Im not hungry” I looked at Neil and lied calmly.
Neil didn’t say anything. He got up and headed for the kitchen again. I was startled. Was he going to cook for me?
In all the years I’ve known Neil, I’ve never seen him cook
To my surprise, Neil only found an apple from the kitchen and gave it to me, “Eat something first.
“Okay. You can go now.” I took the apple and urged Neil again.
“Hold on,” Neil frowned and said, “Don’t be in such a rush to kick me out.”
I was indeed in a rush. His words from last night were still echoing in my ears. After one night, being alone with him again was awkward.
I quietly ate the apple. Only after I finished did Neil ask, “Where’s Russel? Even if you didn’t want to ask me for help, you should’ve at least looked for him, right? Isn’t he your boyfriend?”
Mentioning Russel reminded me of the strange woman’s voice. Who was she? A woman who could answer Russel’s personal calls definitely couldn’t just be an ordinary friend.
But I didn’t want to tell Neil about the issues between me and Russel, so I brushed it off, “He went back to work. He’s very busy. I don’t want to waste his time”
“Weren’t you the one who used to call me twenty times just for a scratch?” Neil frowned, “Why are you worried about wasting Russel’s time?”
I couldn’t answer because I indeed used to do such overly sensitive things.

Luckily, Neil’s phone rang at that moment, interrupting our conversation. He answered the call and got up to open the door.
He came back with two large, insulated boxes. The boxes contained seven or eight dishes, all aromatic.
“Dig in,” Neil said, plopping a knife and fork in front of me. “Ill take off once you’re done eating”
I looked at the mountain of food on the table and asked, “Isn’t this a bit too much? I can’t finish it all by myself”
