Chapter 716
Celeste was dumbfounded. Wasn’t Liam supposed to be at the office? How did he just pop up out of the blue?
Before she could even process this, Claire followed in, greeting, “Mr. Fletcher, Ms. Campbell.”
Celeste gave Claire a glance, then turned her gaze to Liam, who had a nervous look on his face. Her eyes slightly darkened.
Mason explained, “Celeste is okay. The injured one is someone else.”
At that moment, Liam also noticed Leonard, who had been scalded. Knowing that Celeste was unharmed, Liam felt a bit relieved. He wanted to say something, but the car downstairs was ready. Javier was asking everyone to clear the way so they could take Leonard to the hospital.
Celeste let go of Liam’s hand and followed in a serious manner.
Just as Mason was about to follow, Liam stopped him.
“What happened?”
Liam’s voice was deep. Claire also asked, “Mr. Fletcher, what exactly happened?”
Mason glanced at them and said, “Kaylee just burst into the private room and splashed boiling water on Celeste. Leonard shielded her and got scalded on his back.”
Liam’s face turned cold. No wonder Kaylee was so flustered when she came in.
If it weren’t for someone blocking it, the one covered in blisters right now would be Letti.
Suppressing the tremors in his heart, Liam looked at Mason and asked, “How did Kaylee know you guys were in the next room?”
There were many high–end restaurants in this city. The Gourmet Gallery they visited today wasn’t the best one. Even if they happened to choose the same restaurant, what were the chances of picking the room right next door out of dozens of rooms?
Liam wasn’t good at schemes, but he understood probability.
Coincidences–once or twice he could accept them, but every single time, was it really a coincidence?
Upon hearing this, Mason slowly lowered the hand that was blocking him, looked at him calmly, and said, “You should ask Kaylee that question. I’d like to know how she found our private room too.”
Claire quietly clenched her fists on the side.
She never thought Kaylee would be so ruthless. She just wanted to use Kaylee to let Liam see that his ex–wife had moved on, so he could let go. She didn’t want to hurt Celeste.
As those heading to the hospital squeezed past her and Liam, Claire’s mind was a mess, and she didn’t immediately follow.
“Leonard has reported it to the police. They won’t let it slide. Of course, with your capabilities, as long as you’re willing, you can still protect Kaylee, just like at the charity gala when she locked Celeste in the bathroom.”
Mason said indifferently, “If the police investigate, I’ll tell the truth. You have people you want to protect, and so do I.”
Liam’s face turned icy. He said solemnly, “Mason, you could be more straightforward. That way I won’t underestimate you!”
Mason looked up and said, “Liam, it seems you got it wrong. You were the one who let go of Celeste. No one forced you.
Since you let go, you should behave like a proper ex and not condone your relatives hurting her.
As for how I do things, that’s my business.”
Liam grabbed his collar, gritting his teeth, and said seriously, “If you have a problem with me, come at me. If you hurt her, I won’t let you off!”
Mason furrowed his brows, clearly confused by Liam’s words. He slowly removed Liam’s hand from his collar and said, “Celeste’s choice is her own. Even if she chooses you in the end, I won’t hold a grudge.”
He straightened his clothes and calmly said, “But first, you have to beat me.”
After he finished speaking, he glanced at Claire, who was not far away, with a mocking look in his eyes, and then he left.
