Reaching to where they stand, I look at Jeffrey when he talks to the police and turns to me.
“They are done. I’ll walk you inside!” he says and the police start to walk down the stairs while I take a few steps inside the hallway.
I thought I was prepared too see a mess, but I could never have imagined this. They have pulled out every drawer and closet I have, and dropped everything on the floor before they have pulled the next
one out.
Taking steps further down the hallway, I look into the living room and it’s the same in there, they have even cut into the cushions on the couch and ripped it apart. Like why? Did they think I would hide some money in there or what?
“It’s the same in every room, most of it you need to have replaced,” Jeffrey says behind me and my stomach drops at his words.
My house, the place I have been building up with my own hands, and felt proud of every piece of furniture I have bought. I have made this on my own and haven’t been depending on anyone else, just myself.
I can’t afford to buy all new furniture and fix this place up as it is now,

and I don’t want to get a loan. Sadness takes over and I have to hold back to not break down in tears right now.
I bought this house with the last money I had managed to save up, and I can’t take a loan with the low salary I take for myself. I have a business to make sure runs well and I have never fallen behind on any payments, I can’t get a higher salary as it is now if anything happens I need the money on the account.
“I can’t afford it!” I say with a lump in my throat when I hear more footsteps behind and Liz comes to my side.
“I’m so sorry Aliza. We will all help you get this place fixed up again” she says when I feel her arm around my shoulders.
“I’m grateful for it, but I can’t ask you to help me.” I say in response and just look around in the room. It’s devastating to see they have broke it all.
“Why don’t you ask Darian for help? I’m sure he wouldn’t hesitate to replace everything.” Liz says and he probably would, but this is my house, I have bought every single thing myself and felt proud of it. I can’t ask him to help me.
“I’m not his problem, I know I can replace it all in time,” I tell her when I hear a phone ringing before Jeffrey walks a bit away and answers it.
“Humans” I hear him say and turn to look at Liz when she starts to sniff in the air. I wait for her to tell me what it is when she takes up a ripped pillow and sniffs at it.

“He is right, the ones who broke in here were humans,” she says and places the pillow down on the couch again when I hear Jeffrey end the call and walk back to where we are.
“The police want to have a rapport of everything you are missing. I will go and talk to them” he says and I give him a nod when he walks out of the room and I hear him leave out the door.
“How am I going to find out what they took in all this mess?” I say and feel close to my tears but what good does it do to me if I break down now?
Taking a deep breath I turn around and look in the room, to find anywhere it would be better to start cleaning it up.

“Where do you want to start?” Liz ask me and I feel overwhelmed by it.
“I guess we should start by getting some empty bags to throw out the broken stuff first,” I tell her and start to walk over to the hallway and get some bags.
“I will call Heidi and have her to come over here with whoever is available. We need the help” She says, and right now I take all the help I can.
“Yes, that will be good!” I say and see the bags laying on the floor. Picking it up I take one and give one to Liz before we head back to the living room and start there.
Both start by taking up the drawers and placing the things back that aren’t broken. The rest that’s in pieces we place in the bags.
It takes us at least half an hour to go through the room and I know I didn’t have anything of value more than the tv and that one I don’t care about. I have one in my room at the flat and can always bring it here for now.
“That’s done! The couch we have to get help to move out of here and fix you a new one” she says and there isn’t anything we can do about it now. The rest we have fixed the best we could.

“The hallway might be easy, let’s do that first,” Liz says and I agree with her. Most things I have in the hallway are clothes and some drawers beside a closet where I have some cleaning supplies. There can’t be anything they have found of value there and it will probably go fast to clean it up.
When we are done in the hallway I decide it’s time to take a look in the kitchen what mess they have made there.
Stopping right inside the kitchen when I see them have emptied almost all of my cabinets and my porcelain is laying broken on the floor.
I feel devastated about the sight in front of me, it took me a long time to save up to that one and I loved it. Why did they have to pull it out with force and just drop it on the floor? Did they expect me to have something hidden behind it or what?
“What a mess. Take careful steps inside, there is broken glass everywhere!” Liz says when I have started to walk inside. For every step I take it crunches under my shoes and I bet I get some broken glass. stuck under them.
“Why the fuck did they have to break everything! If I get my hands on them they will regret doing this” Liz spits out in anger and I feel the
same way.
Reaching the counter I look around everything on the floor when my eyes land on a pile of broken cups. Tears instantly well up in my eyes at the sight of the cup Noah has made for me. It’s broken on the floor and I loved that one.

He gave me that one as a present, he had made that one in kindergarten. I got it on my first mother’s day we celebrated, and it can never be replaced. It has been the most valued gift of all, the first one.
Taking a step closer I can’t hold back my tears when I bend down to pick it up. It’s in two pieces and I take them both in my hands. The reality of how much they have destroyed for me and my son hits me hard at once and I can’t stop myself from breaking apart. Our home is ruined, with every memory I’ve had in here.
A sob leaves my lips when I have to place my hand on the counter for support. I have a hard time getting air down my lungs. I feel it stings under my hand but I don’t care when tears keep flooding down my cheeks.
“Oh, Aliza” I hear Liz say when my legs are about to go out under me, I need to sit down.
“You can’t sit here” I hear her say when a pair of heavy steps comes from behind and suddenly I’m being lifted and carried out of the kitchen.
