Ninety–Five
Alexander’s POV
I placed fingers on my temple as the weight of what I just heard hit me like a freight train. My head was spinning and I couldn’t for the life of me wrap my head around what I just heard. I swallowed what felt like a massive rock in my throat.
“What did you say?” I said, my voice low and suddenly hoarse. When he went ahead and repeated exactly what I thought I heard but wished I didn’t, I gripped my desk until my knuckles turned white. “How on earth did they get attacked? And what the hell do you mean by, you think…” I trailed off, unable to say the words. “I have men guarding that house all day and all night! How…” I felt bile rise in my throat as I ended the call and threw my phone aside before shutting my eyes as though the tighter I shut them, the more the possibility of making this all go away. Making it a bad dream that I would soon wake up from.
“Mason.” I called stiffly, still hunched over my table, my eyes still shut.
“Yes?” He answered immediately and I could tell that I had put everyone on edge.
“Call the pack doctor immediately.” I said as I opened my eyes and stood up straight. “She’s to go to Isabella’s parents home and get them out of danger immediately.” I said hopefully. The news was that they might be. I was seriously counting on that ‘might‘.

Mason’s eyes widened at my words as they all finally got a bit of the memo of what was going on. He did not ask any questions though, which I was thankful for because I was definitely not in the mood to explain anything. he quietly left without another word and I was grateful for how serious my friends could be when the need arises.
“Caleb, look into who perpetuated the attack and how they were able to. My mate’s parent’s house is heavily guarded, there is no reason why it should be attacked so brutally. I wonder if this pack is now breeding traitors and informants to our enemies. “I said the last sentence with malice, the words coming out between gritted teeth.
When Caleb had left, it was just Blake and I remaining in the room and my beta stared at me expectantly. I sighed heavily, “Blake just supervise, please. I’m having a very terrible feeling that outweighs the positive results I’m trying to hope for.”
Blake nodded, “Just relax, everything would be alright.” He said, looking really concerned, I had to wonder whether I looked as terrible as I felt. “I will supervise and make sure everything gets done. Go to your mate.” He said before leaving.
Go to your mate.
It was all I wanted to do. I thought of her immediately I dropped the call and she was the reason I was so worried that I could throw up. But going to her was not the easiest thing right now. I was scared. I was scared that it was true and she had heard. What on earth do I do then?
You are her mate, you will be there for her. A voice that could only be my wolf’s said and I nodded. He was right, I am her

mate and I will be there for her. I rushed out of my office after that epiphany, knowing that if Isabella had heard the news she would not take it well. With each intrusive thought, my steps became quicker until I was full–on sprinting.
It was only when I got to the door that the fear crept in again. and my steps were tentative as I walked in. I don’t know what I was expecting to see but it wasn’t Isabella in matching PJs, laying on the bed with her legs crossed and her phone in her hands which she appeared to be scrolling through. When she saw me, she looked up from her phone and grinned. I was so thrown off that I almost forgot to school the expression on my face to look more normal than the one I was wearing that probably made it obvious that something was amiss.
Isabella pouted, “I’ve been waiting for you although I was getting really sleepy just now. I was beginning to think I wouldn’t see you until tomorrow morning.” She said, making grabbing motions with her fingers with her arms stretched out towards me. I went to her and she immediately wrapped her arms around her waist from her sitting position on the bed, resting her cheek on my stomach as she sighed contentedly.
Part of me was relieved that she was still oblivious and I didn’t come in to meet her crying her eyes out or planning to do something rash but another part of me was pained and worried for the near future because I know I would have to tell her eventually…soon, in fact. When she pulled away from the hug, she pulled me down to sit down with her. She immediately began rambling on about how she has been wondering about what to get for Chloe since she planned to visit tomorrow, asking me what I thought was best to buy for someone to congratulate them for expecting a child.

I was lost on the topic and even more so because the subject occupying my mind was too dreary and was capable of fading away the beautiful smile she was wearing and the animated way she was talking in seconds.
“My parents would be so excited! Chloe is like a second daughter to them so it would be like their expecting their grandchild as well. They will talk my ear off, wanting to know when we’ll start having kids though.” She pouted and that was
when I lost it.
I couldn’t take it anymore so I got up and she looked at me, concern filling her eyes. “Are you okay? You look–”
I shook my head, forcing a smile, “I’m fine. There’s something need to check up on, no need to wait up.” I told her, leaning down to kiss her on the lips.
I left quickly before she could ask further questions, linking my most trusted guards to guard the room and not let a single person in no matter who it may be. Rushing outside, I undressed and shifted into my wolf form before sprinting to Isabella’s parent’s house.
The entire compound leading up to their house itself was quiet and you wouldn’t even be able to tell that something had happened. Deep inside me, I hoped that was the reality; that someone was playing a cruel prank on me and they would all laugh when I got in and I would be pissed and leave but that was a huge stretch from reality because just in front of the door, a guard lay dead. As an Alpha and son to an Alpha, I have fought a lot of battles and so the sight of dead bodies and blood did not normally disturb me but the more I saw, the more I became anxious and the more I felt like I could throw up. The scene was just as bloody as was described and

even more so than I imagined. Things were scattered and thrown around and there was blood on the floor. I saw Blake come out from one of the rooms and immediately rushed up to him, “Has the pack doctor already attended to them? How are they? It’s not very bad, is it?” I blurted out, rambling the words with urgency.
Blake looked as if he had sucked a lemon and he had a pained look in his eyes as he looked at me, “Alexander, I’m so sorry man.”
I shivered, “What are you…what are you talking about?”
He shook his head solemnly, “They didn’t make it. The Luna’s parents are dead.” He paused for a few seconds as if to allow it sink in. It didn’t. “By the time we got here they had already lost too much blood and the pack doctor declared that it would be impossible to save them even as we prepared to carry them to the hospital anyway. The Luna’s mother’s heart stopped beating before we even got to the ambulance and her father, shortly after.”
I was feeling a thousand things at once. Searing pain for Isabella and loss of how to break this terrible news to her. I felt guilt for not being able to prevent this, for not being on guard, for failing to secure my mate’s parents. Regret that I was not in the right place at the right time. And just when I thought all those feelings might cripple me, I felt anger surge through me and I threw my fist into the wall, growling out loud as I swore to track down and kill with my own hands whoever was responsible for this.
How dare they?!
