Eighty–Eight
Isabella’s POV
“A pack without a Luna may not be doomed as long as the Alpha is still present but a pack without a Luna is definitely a miserable one. A pack without a Luna, a mother, a guardian,a friend definitely won’t thrive as much as a pack with. We thank the goddess today that the Red Moon pack has always had a Luna and even as my mate, the outgoing Luna hands over to my son, the Alpha’s mate. Today is the coronation of that shewolf; Isabella Rossi to be the Luna of this great pack henceforth. No one is perfect immediately and I say this especially to the younger generations. An Alpha and Luna were once young and I can tell you that my mate and I were not as impeccable when we first began to lead as you think us to be today. I ask that you assist the Alpha and the to be installed Luna as they play their roles in the pack. The moon goddess can never be a mistake and I ask you all to never forget that.”
Alexander’s father’s speech was all I needed to put me at ease as I sat alone on the stage facing the crowd of people that had gathered in the pack house ballroom today. A thin veil covered my face, which was the only thing separating me from the people of my pack who may or may not still consider me as a wild card and a cheat. I know the former Alpha had chipped in those words on my behalf but I wondered if the people would really listen to that. Would they really accept me? Did they really believe that I was innocent? Did they trust me to be their advocate and…mother as best that I could?

head and then he opened them. He did a double take and when he seemed to have collected himself he pecked me on the forehead right in front of everyone.
“My.beautiful mate.” He whispered with a smile which warmed my heart and I instantly returned it.
Alexander’s mom soon came to stand beside us, a proud smile on her face as she looked at both of us. She had a stunning dress on as well and looked at least ten years younger than she truly was. She held a small knife in one hand, the wooden handle designed with the most intricate and beautiful hand carved designs and a flat glass case in another hand. She opened the case and passed the knife to Alexander who still stood directly in front of me, facing me. He didn’t even flinch in the slightest as he made the small cut in his palm before placing the knife in my hand and holding his palm over the glass case in his mother’s hand and pulling it back to his side only when a drop of his blood fell unto the dish. I did the same thing and finally Alexander’s mom before a maid came to wipe our palms and apply a band aid even though the wound would heal in a matter of seconds.
The entire room of people were on their feet as the oldest man in the pack stepped forward to take the case from Alexander’s mom before stretching in front of him and muttering some words in ancient tongue that I knew were prayers to the moon goddess, he then placed the case in Alexander’s hand who took it and placed it in the chest his father was holding, where similar objects lay from generations past. When Alexander moved, his mom had taken his place in front of me before removing the gold tiara with encrusted rubies from her head and placing it on mine. She then bowed briefly before giving me a hug and standing beside me. The crowd could finally see me and on cue, they all bowed lowly.

The former Luna went to stand beside her mate while my mate came to stand beside me, taking my hand and placing a soft kiss on the back before bringing it back down beside us and leading us down the stage.
I made my own short speech right after that and it was soon time to mingle with our guests. Soft music began to play from the speakers as servers passed champagne and hors d’ oeveres around. There were tons of Alphas and Lunas in attendance and they were all smiles as I approached them, making it easier to for me to be warm and welcoming. I could easily have my guard up if I notice someone being cold towards me but I could only sense genuineness from them. The Lunas were especially interesting people especially the younger ones. They showered me with compliments and were all very friendly. Something about them made me feel as though I could truly do this and all my worries were in vain.
Alexander later mentioned that he had to check up on something and led me towards were his parents stood, leaving me in their safe hands before disappearing behind Blake. When I removed my eyes to the spot he had been standing and leisurely looked around, I felt my heart just about stop as I focused on the spot where I thought I saw someone very familiar. Could it be? I placed my hand on my madly beating heart. Even if I didn’t know that Alexander went in the opposite direction and couldn’t be the one standing there, I would know those eyes anywhere; they were Antonio’s not Alexander’s. But still, that couldn’t be right. Antonio could not be here. It must be paranoia making my mind play tricks on me. Because I saw something did not mean that it was there. If he was really there, were was he now?
I pushed it all behind me and continued to engage in

conversation as Chloe came to stand beside me. “You look stunning, Luna.” Chloe said and I rolled my eyes. Whenever Chloe called me ‘Luna‘ like that, I already knew she was getting ready to tease me. My best friend and I walked around together until Alexander reappeared and I grinned when he suggested that we quietly slip out of the party. I wholeheartedly agreed as our eyes locked at the same time on our exit. We slowly maneuvered our way through the crowd, greeting people on the way until we finally got outside the ballroom and into one of the corridors. I giggled and Alexander smiled but just as we moved closer, Blake appeared out of nowhere and after a bow and a
‘congratulations, Luna‘ to me, he went to whisper something in Alexander’s ears. When he left, Alexander pulled me in for a warm hug but it did nothing to ease my frustration. I knew he needed to attend to something urgent…again.
“Don’t go anywhere, please. I’ll send Mason to you right away.”
I said nothing and tried to hide the sullen look on my face as he left. And wrapping my arms around myself, I once again felt like I was being watched.
