Forty–Two
Alexander’s POV
I took a few seconds to calm myself down before going back to the ballroom. My father did not look happy at all but what bothered me more was the fact that I could not scent Isabella at all. I sucked in a deep breath. How could I have possibly been so careless?
Knowing how angry she had been, how on earth had I let her out of my sight for all those minutes thinking that she would come back here when she thought I was going to declare another woman as my mate.
Grabbing the mic, I realized I was about to piss off my father even more as I addressed the crowd appreciating them for coming and apologizing that I was unable to find my mate among any of the attendees today. I also declared the end of the ball and bid everyone a safe trip back home before disappearing out of the room and linking Blake, Caleb, and Mason to meet me up front.
They came quickly and I sent Mason to check the club, and Caleb to her house while Blake stayed behind to check the grounds with me as well as do our duty as Alpha and Beta while our guests were still leaving. If I was being honest, I only remembered our ‘duty as Alpha and Beta as I searched for a good enough excuse for sending everyone but Blake after her.
If I knew Isabella, she was drunk right now and me going there would only provoke her more, and Blake…well I didn’t want to accept the fact that she might accept to see Blake over me and I knew they weren’t sleeping with each other. It was terrible of me to insinuate that just because I was jealous, especially at a time like that and I knew I had to apologize. I just need her to calm down first and not with alcohol.

Maybe she was just finding out her pregnancy but would she still drink? Would she risk it? I raked my fingers through my hair as I paced back and forth.
At this point, I’m sure things were quite obvious to my friends even if they didn’t say it. Mason had given me a concerned look, Caleb had smirked at me before they left while Blake just kept glancing at me as I paced.
In those few minutes I had remained upstairs I had decided to make things right. How could I protect my mate when I couldn’t even protect her heart? I had said wicked things, unfeeling and unforgivable things but I told myself that I would apologize and beg if I needed to for a second chance. I knew I needed her.
Despite our arguments and misunderstandings, just like any other man out there, I knew that I would be stupid if I thought I did not need my mate. I decided that I was going to fix things and start over so we could learn to understand each other…to love each other. Both for us and our
kid.
I was going to start by going up there and announcing that I had indeed found my mate, ready to face any attack head on but she had already run off and I knew that things would be way harder from now on.
I got a call from Caleb, “She’s not here” He reported simply and I bit my lip.
“Are you sure you’ve got the right house?” Caleb had never been to her house and I had had to describe everything to him.
“Yes. I’ve been banging for hours.” He exaggerated. “And besides, I’ve tried listening for any sounds but there’s none. Not even a breath. Although I can smell her as this is where she lives, her scent is not as vibrant as it would be if she was actually inside. Trust me, I’d know if she

was home.” He said and I massaged my temples. I hadn’t really expected her to go home but wouldn’t that have been much better? Especially since I haven’t yet heard from Mason.
I kept pacing as I wracked my brain for other places that she could possibly be. Her father had brought her in. Although he could’ve gone to pick her up from her house, what are the odds that she got ready at her parents‘ house and came here from there? How do I check in with her parents without sounding too suspicious?
I began to make my way to my office when I suddenly bumped into my
mom.
“Xander, are you okay?” She asked worriedly before grabbing my arms as she scanned my face, “You look quite shaken up.”
“I’m okay Mom.” I assured her, not wanting her to worry and thus delay me any further, “I just need a…I need a glass of water.”
She let go even though she did not look convinced and I jogged off praying I wouldn’t bump into anyone else as I walked the corridors until I got to my office. Searching through the shelves and drawers, I pulled out books and files until I finally found what I was searching for. Contact Information Of Pack Members.
I pulled out the large book and flipped the pages until I got to the alphabet I was looking for. I searched under ‘R‘ until I found their family name. Dialing the number in a burner phone, I waited while the phone rang.
“Hello?” A strong male voice answered and I was certain it was her father.
“Good evening Mr. Rossi. I was wondering if you were coming back to pick up your daughter.” I said, hoping I sounded nothing like myself since that was the aim.
There was a pause, “She told me she would go back home herself, who is this?”

I paused shortly as well, “Oh, never mind, it’s all sorted now.” I said in my disguised voice before cutting the call
She wasn’t in her parents‘ house then, I thought as I ran my fingers through my hair. With how much manipulation my hair had gone through tonight, I was sure it looked a sight. Not bothering to tidy up the mess I had made of the books, I went out again, locking the door behind me before flying down the stairs. I was about to call Mason to ask if he had gotten any results when I saw his car pull in.
He jumped out, looking out of breath which got me instantly anxious, “What is it? Where is she?”
“She went to the club. I managed to track her scent to the Taxi she was in and followed it, although they had already gone quite far by the time I got on the road. She went to the club though, like you said, and by the time I got there, she was no longer there. The bouncers had seen her go in but no one had seen her go out apparently. I scoured the entire place, even corners so small that a person couldn’t possibly enter.” Mason said, “She wasn’t there.”
“What do you mean they saw her go in but they did not see her leave? That’s impossible!” I yelled and Caleb drove in just then. “Any news?” I ́ demanded immediately he got down from his car.
He frowned at me, “I told you, man, she’s not there.” He said and I ran my fingers through my hair for the umpteenth time. She wasn’t at any of the places I knew she could go to so where on earth could she possibly be? Could she have told her parents everything, causing her dad to cover up for her when I asked about her? But I disguised my voice. Could I have still been obvious? Or could there be somewhere else? I couldn’t delude myself that I truly knew Isabella after all.
There could be other places that she went to for solace that I didn’t know about. How about her friend, Chloe? Could she have gone to her house? Where did she live? And I needed to question those bouncers myself

because what did they mean that they had seen her go in but didn’t see her leave? Was she now a ghost or something?
“Look, man, are you going to tell us what’s up?” Blake finally asked, snapping me out of my head.
I ignored his question, looking around me when Mason finally perked up. “You can take my car.” He said and I nodded. He threw me his key and I gave him a grateful look before taking it and going to unlock the doors. Mason had definitely figured it out but that was fine.
After all, it’s all going to come out pretty soon. I just hoped she was not missing, only hiding.
