Alexander’s pov
“That’s adequate for the project then.” I said to the newest council members of the pack.
We were discussing and finalizing the necessary paperwork for building more orphanages and increasing the security detail in the already existing ones. Isabella had brought the issue to my attention a week ago about how terrible the security of one of the orphanage was, which was odd to me because apart from the murder of a little girl’s parents that happened a month ago, the orphanage was supposedly the safest place in the pack.
I had tried to get her to talk about her concerns for the security but hadn’t been able to get a concrete answer from her.
“Alright, I guess it’s settled then, Next week we’ll begin.” One of them said, standing up from his seat and shaking my hands.
“Good, I want daily and weekly reports on this project.” I said and the man Nodded.
The three council men filed out of my office with Blake leading them out. Relieved that I was finally somewhat alone, I plopped back down on my chair as soon as they exited my office, feeling the effect of weeks without proper sleep kicking in.
I needed to rest but I couldn’t afford the luxury, there was so much to do today and tomorrow and the weeks coming.
“You alright?” Mason asked as he came back in and handed coffee.

“Yeah, I am. Thanks.”
Taking a sip of my hot coffee, I flipped open the document in front of me and signed, approving the construction project. I handed the signed documents to Mason and he collected it, flipping it back open to crosscheck.
“See to it that the budget gets to the contractors before the end of the day.”
“Sure thing boss.” Mason said and sauntered out of my office.
Blake walked back in less than a minute later and plopped down on the seat opposite me. I could tell he was exhausted too, we all were, what with all the travelling we’ve been doing lately, it was hard not to be.
“They are gone now.” He said and I nodded.
“That’s good.”
“So, what’s going on with you? I noticed you were spacing out a lot today during the meeting. Everything Okay?” Blake asked, a slightly concerned look on his face.
I glanced up at him and paused–for a minute, unsure whether it was a good idea to voice out my concerns. Isabella had told me I was being paranoid a few times, but I had a feeling it wasn’t just that.
Leaning back into my chair, I decided to let him know, after all what did Isabella always say… you can’t solve a problem if you don’t talk
about it.
“yeah I am fine… just not very sure about Isabella…”
“What do you mean?” Blake asked, leaning back into his chair and

crossing one ankle over his knee.
I was about to answer when my door creaked open, revealing Caleb.
“Hey what’s going on… did interrupt something?” he paused when he noticed Blake was inside with me.
“Nah, have a seat.” I gestured for him to sit.
“What are we talking about?” He asked as he took a seat beside Blake.
“Isabella….” I supplied.
“What about her, is she okay?” he glanced between Blake and I.
“Yeah, she’s fine… She’s been acting a little odd lately and I have no idea why. she’s hot and cold sometimes. Sometimes she wants to be near me other times she looks at me like she can’t stand the sight of me.” I knew it was probably her pregnancy hormones messing with her but it still hurt when she acted like I was a bother to her.
her
“I didn’t want to bring it up but you are right just yesterday I saw P here in the office looking a bit suspicious and at first I didn’t think anything of it but she gave a weird reason for her being here, something about looking for you when you were obviously outside….‘
“I have to admit I have noticed some weird behavior from her too lately, we were having breakfast just yesterday and she kept spacing out on me, when I finally got her attention she yelled at me but not in the playful way she usually does in a ‘you disgust me‘ way.
Caleb finished.
“Yeah, even Sasha noticed that about her, though she thinks it’s her hormones that’s causing her to act up but I don’t know man.” Blake added.

Their input made me even more worried than I had been just a minute ago.
“Talked to my mother a few days ago and she said the same thing too but it seems to me right now that it could probably be more than that.”
“I mean if the women think so, maybe it’s true.” Caleb spoke up.
“Maybe.” I said simply, still not convinced at all.
Just then, a knock came and Blake stood to open the door. He spoke to whoever was at the door for a few seconds and came back in.
“Your mom’s in the living room, here to see you.” He announced.
“Mother, didn’t realize you were coming today.” I said in greeting as I walked into the living room.
“Maybe if you returned my calls, you would have known.” She said with a frown.
“I tried to but your assistant said you were already asleep when I did. ”
“Oh, yes that is correct but you could have tried to call again.”
I rolled my eyes at her before kissing her on the forehead.
“have you been offered anything…” I inquired as I took a seat beside her.
“Yes, yes One of the maids have gone to prepare something for me. Where is Isabella?”
“she’s still sleeping.”
“Oh, that’s good. Has she eaten breakfast?”

“according to Lisa, yes, she has.”
“Why according to Lisa? Don’t you know if you pregnant wife has eaten or not?”
“I’ve been in a meeting all day mom.”
“That’s a silly excuse son, you should be attentive towards her now of all time. Let your Beta do some of the work.”
“Blake helps out but I still have to be in these meetings to approve certain things he can’t.”
“Excuses, excuses.”
I sighed, knowing she wouldn’t relent no matter what valid reason I present to her with.
“you are right, I’ll do better.
”
“Good. By the way What’s going on with you son, you look tired.” She said, eyeing me up and down.
“nothing, just work.”
“That’s a lie son, I know that tired look and it’s not the look of work tires, tell your mother what’s wrong.
Realizing I couldn’t escape her questions, I decided to answer her question truthfully.
“its Isabella…”
“What about her?”
“She’s just not acting like herself anymore, and I know you said it’s

probably hormones but I just have a feeling it’s more than that. She’s
been acting antsy lately and I think she’s avoiding me. Just last night, I planned a movie night for us but she told me she wasn’t in the mood and slept in her private suite.”
“Hate to break it to you again, honey but all of what you just described are still symptoms of being pregnant, you have to understand, her body is going through changes, she’s growing a life inside her, everything about her will change because of new hormones being secreted, it’s completely normal, trust me, I was way worse when I was pregnant with you.
“I refuse to believe that.”
“Trust me, I remember burning your father’s clothes because he was two hours late to when he said he’ll be back from a meeting.”
My eyes widened in shock at her revelation. That didn’t sound like her at all, sure she can be overbearing but my mother wasn’t the kind to burn things down.
“Don’t get me started on when I threatened to burn down the pack mansion in the middle of the night when your father wouldn’t get me chocolates.”
“I turned you into an Arson didn’t I?“I chuckled, both terrified and amused by what she was telling me.
“That you did.” She chuckled.
“My point is whatever you think Isabella is doing, she isn’t as as bad as I was. If she hasn’t burnt down the mansion you are fine.”
I pondered her words, of course it made sense, I’d even researched on the hormone thing before and confirmed all of what my mother was

saying but there was still something a little off that I couldn’t quite place my hands in.
“Your snack is ready Luna.” Lisa came to inform, holding a tray of food.
We chatted a bit more about the pack before my mother left. Isabella was still asleep by the time I was done with lunch.
I was in my study later that evening reviewing some documents when I heard a small knock on my door.
“Come in.” I yelled out and Isabella sauntered I’m.
I stood, glad she was finally awake. “Hey, you are awake.” I said as I met her half way. I pulled her into a hug and she held onto me tightly.
“You okay?” I asked softly, my lips against her forehead.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just tired.” She replied with a tired and groggy voice.
“You’ve been asleep all day, have you had anything to eat?” I asked, worried she hadn’t eaten anything.
“Only breakfast.” She said looking up at me with tired eyes.
“Alright, I’ll get the maids to cook you something for you before dinner is ready.”
“No, I want to eat something made by you..”
I chuckled, surprised at her request.
“Isabella, you know I have work.”

“Please.” She begged, staring at me with puppy dog eyes. How could I refuse her when she was staring up at me like that plus she was finally

warming up to me again, o didn’t want to do anything to jinx it.
“Alright but, I doubt the maids will let me near the kitchen,”
“you are the Alpha, they don’t have a choice.” She said with a grin,
