Chapter 3 Future Mrs. Patterson Can’t Be Like This
The nurse at the inquiry counter was swamped. She got real pissy when she heard the questions. But when she glanced up and saw Lemuel, her whole attitude changed.
“This guy is smokin‘ hot!” the nurse thought to herself,
She blushed and said,
“Yeah, we got a patient named Brenda Cohen. You lookin‘ for her? Who are you?”
Lemuel frowned deeply.
The nurse figured she must’ve annoyed him with all the questions, so she rushed to explain,
“Please don’t get me wrong, sir. I ain’t bein‘ nosy. It’s just that Ms. Cohen claimed she ain’t got no family or friends around here.
“She said she had a fiancé, but that jerk cheated on her with a married woman. And then, that woman’s husband went and beat the crap outta him. So, Ms. Cohen took care of all the paperwork herself.”
Lemuel’s face turned dark.
Why the hell would Brenda make up a story about him cheatin‘ with some married woman and gettin‘ his ass kicked by her
husband?
Instead of waitin‘ for Brenda to show up, Lemuel spun around and stormed out, full of anger.
After the operation, Brenda left the hospital despite the doctor’s dissuasion.
She was banged up, but it was nothing compared to when she got messed up in the mountains.
She was tough as nails. She could handle anything.
When Brenda got home, she caught Lemuel chatting away on the phone.
He looked annoyed when he saw Brenda back.
But he kept his cool and spoke in a soft tone on the phone,
“Don’t worry. Just do what the doc says and get some shut–eye. I’ll hit you up later.”
No doubt he was talking to Krista.
As soon as he hung up, Lemuel’s attitude changed and he got
cold.
“Why did you slap Krista today?”
Brenda was pissed. She didn’t even get a chance to tell him to control his woman, and he was already blaming her!
“Why? You know damn well! She had it coming!”
“You… She’s an actress, and her face is everything to her. How is she gonna work with a messed–up face like that?”
“What’s it gotta do with me? She knew her face was everything; why didn’t she protect it better? She came at me and provoked me! She deserved it!”
Lemuel was furious.
“I thought you were a good girl, even though you come from a regular family, but I didn’t expect you to be so rude! The future Mrs. Patterson can’t be like this!”
“Ha!” Brenda scoffed.
“You got it all wrong, buddy! I never wanted to be Mrs. Patterson! I’d be thrilled to call off our engagement! Don’t
believe me? Try me! Let’s break up!”
Lemuel shot back, “I wouldn’t have agreed if my grandpa hadn’t forced me!”
Brenda pouted. “I said yes for my grandpa’s sake too!”
Suddenly, silence filled the room…
Both of them were trapped in this mess. They couldn’t stand
each other.
“But slapping her in public was uncalled for!” Lemuel snapped.
Brenda was still furious.
“She cursed me in public!”
“You… you’re just being unreasonable! I’ve never seen such an ignorant woman like you!”
“And I’ve never seen such a shameless man like you! You’re way older than me. How could you even consider marrying a young one like me? Shame on you! And if you’re so into Krista, why don’t you convince Sir Patterson to end our engagement? You can’t even marry the girl you like. What a useless loser you are!”
Shameless?
A useless loser?
Lemuel was taken aback by the insults.
“Brenda!” Lemuel growled.
Brenda involuntarily trembled. It was terrifying when Lemuel lost his temper.
“Why the yelling? I’m not deaf, you know.”
Lemuel seethed with anger. He stared at Brenda for a long moment before saying, “Just behave yourself and stay away from Krista!”
With that, he stormed upstairs to his study and slammed the door.
Brenda was still seething. She shouted,
“I didn’t even start it, okay? You seriously need to warn Krista to keep her distance from me! If she dares to mess with me again, I swear I’ll give her another good smack!”
After her outburst, Brenda stomped off to her bedroom.
“Bang!” She slammed the door even louder than Lemuel.
