Chapter 32 Have Her Back

As it turned out, the other employees had falsely accused Ruthanne of slacking off and taking a nap in a corner somewhere when Ballard went downstairs in search of her.
Theodoric was livid. He called Ruthanne many times, but she did not answer.
Only after a long while did he learn from Marianne that Ruthanne was detained at the police station for theft.
Boiling with rage, he made a beeline for the police station, but the moment he saw her pitiful expression. he found that he could not vent his displeasure.
In fact, his heart twinged painfully.
Meanwhile, Ruthanne was stunned by Theodoric’s barrage of questions.
“I’m asking you, who locked you up?” Theodoric repeated coldly.
Ruthanne stiffened. Her gaze fell on Marianne, who was standing behind her.
Theodoric turned to regard the other woman with raised eyebrows. “What happened?”
Marianne was upset. She had called Theodoric to have him stand up for her, but he did not even spare her a glance since he arrived.
Seizing the opportunity, she put on an aggrieved look as she lied, “She stole my bracelet, Theodore, and some passersby sent her here. I told them not to make a big deal out of it, but they could not stand to see me suffer. I couldn’t convince them otherwise, so I tagged along.”
How clever of Marianne to turn a lie into the truth. Ruthanne sighed and turned to Theodoric. Although she knew he would not believe her, she still obstinately explained in a small voice, “I didn’t steal…”
“But my bracelet was found in your bag.” Marianne bit her lower lip, looking most forlorn.
In the meantime, Silvius had dismissed the passersby before heading to the detention area, accompanied by an officer.
“Open the door,” Theodoric ordered the officer coldly.
The officer met his chilly glare, looking troubled. “What is your relationship with this young lady, Mr. Lasker?”
“She’s my wi-”
“Employee! I’m his employee!” Ruthanne interrupted before Theodorie could complete his sentence.
They had previously made an agreement that he would not let her reveal their relationship to the public, and Ruthanne always remembered that.
The man’s unspoken words were lodged in his throat. A faint, almost undetectable glint flashed across his eyes. Nobody could tell what was going through his head.
Marianne, on the other hand, was shocked.
Ruthanne works for Theodoric? In other words, they not only live together but also work together?

denly, she became anxious.
Silvius gave
the officer a polite nudge. “Aren’t you going to let her out? Mr. Lasker is getting impatient.”
The officer could not help but look at Marianne. “Mr. Lasker, Mr. Coldhurst, we’re merely following procedure. If Ms. Marianne won’t drop the charges, we can’t release the suspect.”
Theodoric lowered his gaze to regard Marianne. Without saying a word, he allowed her to interpret the full weight of his silence.
Marianne knew Theodoric’s meaning all too well, but she was beside herself with anger. That was not the outcome she had expected.
“But Theodore, she stole from me,” she said, puffing her cheeks. “How can I let this slide? This is so unfair!”
“I will compensate for your losses, but Ruthanne’s duties demand her presence back at the office.”
D*mn it! Why should Theodore pay for Ruthanne’s mistakes? What I want is for Ruthanne to suffer! I want her to be charged so she’ll be away from him forever!
The hatred in her eyes irritated Theodoric, who was puzzled by the vast difference between Marianne at present compared to the version of her he kissed that morning.
Although her resentment disturbed him, he remained patient. “Be good,” he said gently. “Now’s not the time to be stubborn.”
Marianne knew she could not go against him, so she nodded in defeat. “Fine. I’ll drop the charges.”
“This way, please, Ms. Marianne. You need to sign the release forms.”
Marianne turned around and shot Ruthanne a venomous glare.
“The keys, officer!” Silvius reminded him with a chuckle.
The officer hurriedly handed the keys to Silvius before leading Marianne out to sign the paperwork.
Her features were contorted with rage as she signed the papers begrudgingly.
After she was done, she went back for Theodoric but found the detention room empty instead.
Where is he? Has he left?
She ran out of the police station and arrived just in time to catch Ruthanne getting into the passenger seat beside Theodoric before taking off.
None of them waited for her. It was as if they had forgotten about her.
The more Marianne thought about it, the angrier she became. Her eyes were bloodshot with jealousy.
How exactly did that b*tch make two men come forward to have her back?
Even after the Rolls–Royce Cullinan disappeared into the distance, Marianne did not regain her calm.
She was so angry that she whipped out her phone and dialed Janice’s number. “I want Ruthanne dead, Mom! She must die!”
