Silvius‘ questioning inexplicably made Theodoric feel guilty. Feeling annoyed by his emotions, he glared at Silvius and yelled, “Get lost! Stop talking nonsense.”
Silvius shrugged, unsurprised by Theodoric’s reaction.
Theodoric has never been in a relationship before, and he probably doesn’t even know what love feels like. I can’t expect him to admit his feelings or express them. But there’s no rush. Everything takes time, and we still have a long way to go.
Meanwhile, Ballard did not manage to find Ruthanne at the office.
Unfortunately, Ruthanne lacked attractive looks and qualifications. She was still an intern who had yet to secure a permanent position.
Today was her first day at work, and she found herself subjected to various forms of mistreatment from her colleagues. They would assign her menial tasks like fetching coffee and running errands, all while subjecting her to passive–aggressive remarks.
To make matters worse, the marketing department manager had sent her out to distribute flyers instead of allowing her to have a proper lunch break.
Ruthanne was no fool. She understood that this was just another way her colleagues were trying to belittle and humiliate her. Given Romanesque’s reputation, there was no justification for her to be out on the street distributing flyers.
However, her low status left her without the right to argue back, so she had no option but to swallow her frustrations.
Ruthanne was in the sun for three long hours, from noon until around two or three in the afternoon when the sun was scorching.
She was never raised as a pampered child. She had taken on dishwashing and street sweeping jobs just to make ends meet. Therefore, handing out flyers was a simple task for her.
However, her empty stomach made her feel weak and dizzy. She std to maintain her balance and
was on the verge of getting a heat stroke.
Yet, Ruthanne couldn’t afford to waste time. The crowd at the entrance of the shopping mall was small, but she still had a large stack of flyers to distribute. She had to finish before the end of the workday.
With a forced smile, she approached a passerby, extending a flyer toward them. However, they declined, purposefully avoiding her with a disdainful look.
Undeterred, Ruthanne was poised to hand the flyer to the next person, only to be forcefully bumped on her shoulder by someone.
She froze for a moment before turning around.
Isn’t the woman standing before me, clad in designer clothing and carrying bags, Marianne?
“Oh my, Ruthanne, am I seeing things? Are you actually here handing out flyers? Aren’t you Theodore’s wife? Does he not give you money to spend?”
Marianne grazed her neck. Her sparkling diamond necklace was illuminated by the sunlight.

Ruthanne’s heart sank, and she felt too drained to entertain her. She bypassed Marianne and continued her work.
Marianne, however, stuck to Ruthanne like glue. She jingled the silver bracelet on her wrist annoyingly and said, “Ruthanne, does Theodore know that you’re doing such a lowly job? This doesn’t make sense. Look at me. He had someone deliver a card to me. It’s not a lot of money, just a few million. But he told me to spend it first and ask him for more if it’s not enough.”
Ruthanne chose to ignore her words and continued handing out flyers to passersby. “Hello, our company…
“Hi, would you like to buy perfume? Our company…
“Hello…”
Frustrated by Ruthanne’s indifference, Marianne could no longer control herself.
She stepped forward in her high heels and snatched the flyers from Ruthanne’s hand, callously tossing them into the air.
The colorful flyers gracefully descended onto Ruthanne’s shoulders, accentuating her disheveled state.
“Why are you so fixated on distributing these flyers? Can’t you just listen to me for once, you b*tch!”
D*mn it! This despicable woman would rather smile at strangers than acknowledge me. Is she blind? I am adorned in luxury from head to toe, far superior to these repulsive commoners!
The sight of the scattered mess on the ground only fueled Ruthanne’s anger. Her eyes widened with fury, but she made an effort to rein in her emotions. “What do you want?”
Marianne arrogantly flipped her hair and then her expression changed to a mix of shock and outrage.
She began to yell at the top of her lungs as if she had been gravely wronged. “Help! Is there anyone here to help me? This woman stole my bracelet and refuses to admit it! Someone, please come and help me!”
Ruthanne was confused.
I stole her bracelet? She’s lying through her teeth. Has she lost her mind?
“Did you see me stealing your bracelet? I’ve been distributing flyers here and didn’t even come into physical contact with you.”
The heated dispute between the two of them quickly caught the attention of bystanders, and the previously calm mall entrance became a focal point for curious onlookers. The penetrating gazes from the crowd made Ruthanne’s skin crawl.
“I’m sure you stole my bracelet. If you’re innocent, open your bag and let me search.”
“I didn’t steal your stuff. Why should I let you search my bag?” Ruthanne could not stand it anymore.
“How can I be sure that you didn’t steal my bracelet if I don’t check your bag?” Marianne continued her act, playing the victim once again. “Can someone please help me sort this out? That bracelet is a precious gift from my boyfriend, and it’s very expensive. If you want one, I can buy you a new one. You shouldn’t have stolen it!”
The bystanders, who were blinded by Marianne’s good looks and pitiful act, started to speak out.

“That’s right! Since you are a prime suspect, you should let her search your bag!”
“I’m sure she’s the thief. If not, why would she refuse to let us search her bag?”
“Look at the way she’s dressed! Not only is she ugly, but she’s a pauper too. She must have a terrible character.”
Everyone stood against Ruthanne, leaving her feeling helpless and lonely.

Despite her poverty and humble appearance, she had always maintained her integrity and lived an honest life. How could she tolerate being publicly humiliated by Marianne?
In order to prove her innocence, Ruthanne had no choice but to pour her belongings out of her bag.
Notebooks, pens, and lipsticks were scattered everywhere, and among them was a dazzling gold chain.
Ruthanne’s eyes flickered at the sight of the chain. Marianne seized the opportunity and picked up the golden chain from the ground. “Didn’t you say you didn’t steal my stuff? What’s this?”
