Chapter 18 Many Things Will Have To Wait
The woman stood with her back to Ruthanne, so Ruthanne could not see her face.
The woman was dressed in revealing clothing. Her halter neck tight–fitting dress made her look indecent and cheap.
If it were not for Theodoric hugging her at that moment, Ruthanne would even think that she was a call girl that Ballard had specially hired to fulfill her husband’s sexual urges.
I can’t believe Theodoric likes this kind of woman. No wonder he despises me so much. He has a regular partner but was made into a married man by me, who appeared out of nowhere. Anyone would be outraged if it happened to them.
For some reason, however, the sight of the two embracing sparked a surge of resentment within her.
Her heart ached as if someone had clenched it in their fist.
While she was hesitating whether to go forward and submit her resume, the observant Ballard in the corner noticed her.
He carefully drew the blinds for Theodoric before pushing the door open and rushing toward Ruthanne.
His cheeks were still flushed. He was probably blushing as well from what he had just seen.
“Why did you come up without saying anything?” Ballard asked anxiously in a whisper. “Mr. Lasker will be furious again if he sees you!”
Ruthanne waved her resume. “Didn’t you tell me to finish writing my resume and send it up?”
Ballard pulled away the resume from her hand. “I’ll take that. You may leave. Remember, you must let us know before coming up next time.”
Ruthanne glanced at the separate glass room. She could not see anything now that the blinds were closed.
In any case, she did not need to think about it to know what was going on inside.
She averted her gaze and nodded expressionlessly before turning around and heading downstairs.
Ballard looked at Ruthanne’s back as she left. He suddenly felt that if it were not for her incredibly ugly face, she would probably be a better match for Theodoric than Marianne.
There was no reason for his thoughts, but he would never forget the scene of Ruthanne arguing with Theodoric earlier, having never seen any woman capable of giving Theodoric a hard time.
Although Theodoric appeared displeased, Ballard knew that he was not genuinely angry.
Mr. Lasker losing his temper is far scarier than he appeared just now, but he did not snap at Ruthanne the entire time.
In Ballard’s opinion, Theodoric’s attitude toward Ruthanne was an exception in itself, but even Theodoric himself would probably have trouble detecting this peculiarity.
Meanwhile, Theodoric did not smell anything from Marianne in the glass room.
Marianne had thought that Theodoric would take the opportunity to fool around with her when she saw Ballard lowering the blinds, so she became bolder and pressed herself firmly against him.
I can do anything Ruthanne can, and even better!
Theodoric lowered his gaze, his eyes ablaze when he saw her fair bosoms peeking out, and a hint of disgust surfaced within him.
He instinctively pushed Marianne away, but because he did not control his strength well, she fell in a heap onto the couch.
Stunned, Marianne looked at him pitifully. “You were so hard, Theodore. You hurt me.”
Theodoric’s eyes were stern, and it took everything he had not to lash out at her.
“I know what you’re trying to do, Marianne, but I’m now a married man. Many things will have to wait until after
my divorce.”
Marianne threw him a seductive look and whined, “When are you getting divorced, then, Theodore?”
The moment she mentioned divorce, Ruthanne’s face flashed across his mind.
The thought of Ruthanne made Theodoric feel irritated once more, and he spat, “I’m sorry. I can’t get a divorce anytime soon.”
