Chapter 224 The Dispute of the Hood Family
Matthew’s casual response made Tripp explode with anger, and he hurriedly crossed the sofa and pointed his index finger at Matthew’s face. “I don’t care what nonsense you’re waffling about, but you can’t marry Freya!”
“Why are you so offended by Freya?” Matthew’s face turned cold. “I’ll tell you the truth, I like her and I plan to marry her. It’s just that she has always refused me. If she agrees, even the heavens can’t stop me!”
“If you marry her, do you know how inuch you’ll embarrass our family?” Tripp roared, “Everyone in Caltun knows that she belongs to Radley. What are you doing all this for? Just to join in the fun?”
“So, you’re afraid of Radley?”
“It’s not about being afraid of anyone! She is carrying Radley’s child in her belly. Why do you want to marry her? To raise Radley’s child?”
Radley’s child? Matthew’s pupils contracted. How did this news spread?
“Who said she’s carrying Radley’s child?”
Tripp became furious. “Last time when you were in Hartterre, they publicly announced it at the Duke of Willard’s symposium!”
Matthew’s expression suddenly faltered, “Radley announced it?”
“Yes, everyone in Caltun heard it and knows that Radley and Freya will remarry sooner or later!”
Lorelei said, “I absolutely won’t accept this kind of woman into the Hood family, and I advise you not to do anything that will make me and your father angry. If Freya and Radley reconcile, both families will be offended!”
Matthew’s face turned cold. “If I make you so angry, you shouldn’t have handed the Hood Group over to me in the first place!”
Tripp slammed the table in anger. “Do you think the Hood Group was handed over to you just like that? If it weren’t for your brother’s death-”
As soon as his words fell, both Tripp and Lorelei showed expressions of grief and sorrow on their faces. Matthew looked at his parents’ sad appearance and fixed his gaze on a photo not far away. In that photo, his mother was wearing a court dress, sitting on an exquisite high-backed chair, while his father stood behind her, and in front of them stood his younger brother who had passed away many years ago. His mother used to say that this was the most beautiful family photo, but he wasn’t in it.
Matthew’s expression slightly darkened. “If I had known it would be like this, I wouldn’t have come back.”
Tripp roared, “If you don’t want to come back, then don’t come back! Who do you think you are? You’ve forgotten how much we’ve done for you now that you’ve grown up!”
If Matthew were still a child, he would’ve felt distressed by these words. Now, however, he only felt a ringing in his cars. Covering his ears with one hand, he pretended to clean them a few times.
“Well then, I’ll leave first.”
Tripp’s angry roar sounded behind him. “Once you step out of this door, don’t ever come back! And if you dare to go find Freya again, I won’t let you off with just a talk!”
After leaving the Hood Residence in a bad mood, Matthew drove around Caltun aimlessly. At this moment, he realized that there was only one person who could make him feel better, and he called Freya. “Frey, where are you?”
“I just got home. What’s wrong?”
“I’m coming to your place.”
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone before Freya’s cautious voice sounded. “Matthew, what do you want now?”
Matthew’s hand tightened around his slightly. His eyes dimmed, but his laughter turned a little frivolous. as he said, “I miss you.”
On the other end of the phone, Freya’s laughter sounded. “Alright, go tell that to your other girlfriends.”
After hanging up the phone, Matthew parked his car on the streets of Caltun, where he rolled down the car window and lit a cigarette.
As night fell, the road filled with busy pedestrians, each with their own destination. Matthew leaned back in his seat, lazily looking at the distant lights of the city.
If only there was a window to the future showing him and Freya’s life together. It would surely be wonderful.
A few days later, the weekend rolled along, and Freya gave Edward a call.
“Edward, make an announcement that this will be the last broadcast of the year before the live broadcast. today, Freya instructed as she sat on the couch, holding a candy in her hand.
Edward responded with some concern, “Are you not feeling well, Frea?”
Freya smiled. “No, it’s just that my brother is getting engaged in half a month, so I’ll probably be busy during this time.”
“Okay, I’ll come over earlier today.” Edward said.
After hanging up, Freya gazed at the variety of pastries and candies on the table. She tasted a few one by one and commented to Sylvia who was next to her, “This fruit candy is too sweet, and this chocolate is too rich. Let’s not put any candy in the gift bags.”
Sylvia frowned. “Candy must be included; it’s a custom in Caltun.”
Freya shrugged. “Then, you taste and choose. I’ve already tasted more than a dozen.”
Sylvia smiled gently. “I’m scared I’ll gain weight from eating too much candy.”
Freya, who was lightly licking the sugar on her fingertip, immediately widened her eyes in anger. “What about me, then?”
“You can just lose weight after giving birth. Have some more.” Sylvia smiled.
Freya, feeling resentful, tasted seven or eight more sweets. After choosing the candies for the gift bags, she slumped on the sofa and messaged Isabella.
I almost got sick from tasting the candies for your gift bags. Can I get some compensation?’
Isabella quickly replied, ‘Frey, I’m currently choosing my engagement dress. Can you help me pick one?”
Before Freya could reply, dozens of pictures popped up on her phone. She gritted her teeth. It was as if the whole world was immersed in happiness. Even her brother had been busy lately, determined to finish. all the affairs of the Kaufmann Group in advance so as not to delay his engagement.
After helping Isabella choose her dress, Freya felt a bit resentful. When her phone rang again, she angrily answered it. “Get to the point. What else do you need me to choose?”
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end, followed by a deep laugh. Her hand caressing the back of the couch, Freya sat up straight, looking at the caller ID on her phone. It was Radley.
She whispered, “Radley, is there something going on in West Geft?”
“No, I just wanted to check on our baby’s health as his father.”
Freya’s face turned red, and her voice became more vicious. “You’re only his father in name!”
Radley fell silent again for a few seconds. Then, as the baby’s father in name, let me check on his recent condition.”
Freya deflated, knowing that she couldn’t argue with him. Deciding to give up, she slumped on the sofa, lazily saying, “He’s doing well, he just ate too much candy recently.”
Radley’s low and mellow laughter came through the phone. In Freya’s mind, Radley’s smiling face flashed for an instant. She lightly slapped her face, shook her head, and pushed that scene out of her mind.
“How’s everything going at the Joint Department recently?” Freya asked, changing the subject work.
“It’s going well, but your master isn’t very happy. He said that after he decided to settle in Caltun, you started slacking off.”
Freya felt a little guilty at his words. There have been many happy events in my family recently, so I’ve been busy.”
Radley made a sound of agreement. Then, an old voice came from the other end. “Is it Freya calling?”
It was Madam Daniella.
