Chapter 45 Sister–in–Law
Jared was slightly taken aback, his expression becoming somewhat elusive as he glanced up at the kitchen door.
Observing her brother’s reaction, Shiloh’s face revealed a look of extreme shock. Could it be that his brother liked Julia?
“Brother, she’s not as simple as she seems,” Shiloh warned.
Jared nodded and responded, “I know. If she were too simple, I wouldn’t be interested.”
Shiloh was left dumbfounded by his brother’s nonchalant reply.
“But she might have other intentions towards you,” Shiloh persisted.
Jared replied casually. “Then let her have them. Can’t I afford to support her?”
Shiloh’s eyes widened in disbelief. “And what if she tries to harm your life?”
“Who would want to harm your brother’s life?” Julia emerged from the kitchen, carrying a tray of vegetables.
Shiloh glared at her rudely and said, “You.”
Jared’s face creased with displeasure at his brother’s rudeness.
“Me?” Julia smiled, setting the dishes she had cooked on the table. “You seem to have a low opinion of me, don’t you? You think my food is so terrible that it will poison your brothers? Don’t worry, it’s not unpleasant.”
Shiloh muttered to himself, “Who said that?”
“You don’t believe it? Care to make a bet?” Julia challenged with a frown.
“A bet?” Shiloh blinked, glancing at his brother. It felt like these two had already planned something.
“How do we bet?” Shiloh asked, curious about the terms Julia would propose.
Jared also showed interest, waiting to see what conditions Julia would offer.
Without hesitation, Julia said, “If you win, you get to decide the conditions.”
Shiloh’s suspicion was reignited by her familiar response. It seemed that Julia and his brother didn’t need to collude.
As soon as the idea of a connection between Jared and Julia crossed Shiloh’s mind, he immediately dismissed it. His noble older brother couldn’t possibly have any fate with a woman as calculating as Julia.
“Okay, I accept the bet. If I win, you will immediately divorce my brother and continue to treat my leg,” Shiloh declared firmly, even though he sensed Jared’s anger.
Turning his attention to Julia, Shiloh asked, “What if you win?”
Julia’s eyes glinted mischievously as she glanced at Jared before answering, “If I win, you just have to call me sister–in–law.”
Shiloh felt dumbfounded at the coincidence that both Jared and Julia had made the same condition.

What were the odds of that?
Jared, on the other hand, seemed delighted at the revelation of the close relationship between Julia and him. It was time to create an opportunity for the two of them to be honest and open with each other.
With that settled, Julia brought out all the dishes she had prepared–braised pork elbow, fried duck offal with soy sauce, steamed fish, braised eggplant, spicy tofu, Pleurotus eryngii mushroom
oyster sauce, and crucian carp soup. Each dish looked appetizing and delicious.

As Jared tasted the food, his face showed genuine enjoyment, which surprised Shiloh. Was it that delicious, or were they just pretending?
Julia playfully teased, “Why not eat it? Are you afraid it’s too delicious and you’ll lose?”
Shiloh responded with a sulky tone, “You’re afraid of losing!” He picked up a piece of duck offal and put it in his mouth. The taste made his eyes light up in delight, and he was genuinely impressed.
