Chapter 279 We are Really Pretending
Before Maddie could fully unzip the tent, Henry enveloped her from behind. “Ah!” Maddie let out a reflexive shriek.
This sudden sound left everyone in stunned silence and prompted a collective tongue–clicking of disapproval. Were they being overly vigorous in the wilderness? In the end, Maddie was still pregnant.
Julia was startled as well, turning her head to look in the direction of Maddie and their tent. Jared’s attention had been briefly diverted. In just a couple of seconds, he shifted his gaze back to the girl pinned beneath him.
“You want it too?” Jared’s wide, enchanting eyes seemed to say, “I’ve missed you so much!”
“I’m just checking something.”
“Oh?” Jared lowered his body, narrowing the gap between himself and the girl.
Julia glanced down, her heart inexplicably quickening, but she maintained her calm exterior. There was no other option; the moment she showed even a hint of embarrassment, the man would seize the opportunity and make a move.
“Can you get up? You were fine just now. Why did you suddenly push me down?”
Julia’s skill at changing the subject had always been top–notch.
Jared shifted his gaze toward Cameron’s tent outside. “You were staring just now. Don’t you think Cameron purposely placed her tent next to ours?”
“You’re overthinking it,” Julia replied promptly.
Jared wasn’t entirely satisfied with the girl’s response.
However, he didn’t press the issue, as he wasn’t bothered by it. Julia possessed not only
exceptional skills in changing the subject but also the ability to provoke someone to the point of anger. Engaging in an argument with her would only lead to his own frustration.
He believed the best way to handle Julia was to be straightforward.
“My family doesn’t manage this place. I can’t influence where Cameron chooses to set up
tent.”
“I’ve told you, I’m not overthinking it. You don’t need to explain.”
her
“If you truly mind, I have a way to make her unhappy,” Jared said, disregarding Julia’s words.
Julia raised an eyebrow, curious. “What can you do?”
Even though she claimed not to mind, Cameron truly irked her, and she harbored suspicions that Cameron might have been behind the incident where Karla drugged him at the entertainment club last time.
If she hadn’t been able to uncover the truth, she would have confronted Cameron long ago. “One way to handle it is by creating a commotion like Henry and the others did,” Jared suggested. His gaze inevitably drawn to the girl’s self–assured form before him.
Was it just his imagination? Lately, he had observed that the girl seemed to be maturing while in this environment.
This transformation was astonishing. Her slender figure turned heads as she walked down the path. If this development continued, the level of risk would undoubtedly rise.

Chapter 279 We are Really Pretending
Julia rolled her eyes at Jared, choosing to remain silent, letting him stew in his own thoughts.
When Jared had proposed this method, it was evident he was using Cameron as an excuse to flirt with her.
The memory of that rainy night remained vivid in her mind. Her voice had been husky, and her prowess had seemed almost supernatural.
On that day, he had been down with a fever, and her actions had nearly cost him half his life. If he were to perform as usual today, it would probably have forced everyone to abandon their tents. and flee overnight.
It would be unbearable for anyone.
Ultimately, it was she who would bear embarrassment.
She didn’t want that.
“Let’s just pretend it’s real,” Jared suggested, recognizing the girl’s resistance.
