Chapter 221: Julia and Randel fight, Jared arrives
Julia’s reflexes were lightning–quick. In a split–second, she deftly sidestepped, snatching her opponent’s arm while simultaneously delivering a swift kick to their lower torso.
With a reaction time that matched Julia’s own, the opponent promptly released their other hand, seizing Julia’s foot with a grip so relentless that it threatened to immobilize her.
After a vigorous tug, Julia managed to free her foot, but not without stumbling a couple of steps. She finally regained her balance, opting to keep a safe distance from her adversary instead of rushing in for another attack. Her gaze shifted to the figure standing beneath the dimly lit moonlight streaming through the window.
Although the moonlight obscured details, the silhouette bore a striking resemblance to the individual in the photo on Jared’s phone. It was also eerily reminiscent of…
“Who are you?” came the deliberate, low voice of the man.
Julia’s assessing eyes continued to scrutinize the man’s form up and down. She countered with a similarly hushed tone, evading the question. A tense standoff ensued, the air crackling with impending tension.
After a brief silence, the man ventured, “An enemy of the Watson family?”
The question echoed Julia’s own inquiry; both she and Jared had been investigating this man’s identity. Was he affiliated with the Watsons or a sworn adversary?
A few seconds of silence stretched before Julia ventured a provocative test, “What if I am?”
The response was swift and chilling, laced with murderous intent. “Then you will die!”
The man’s clenched fist hurtled toward Julia’s chest, but with impeccable timing, she turned her hands into palms, intercepting the blow. In a split–second, the man’s fist transformed into a claw, redirecting toward Julia’s neck in a bid to strangle her.
Julia’s sharp instincts saved her as she swiftly evaded, retreating a few steps. The man lunged forward, his long legs granting him reach as he grasped at Julia’s clothing.
In a deft maneuver, Julia retreated further, and with a sharp tug, her collar gave way, revealing only a few centimeters of skin below her collarbone, a modest escape from a potential wardrobe malfunction.
Just as Julia breathed a sigh of relief, an excited, male voice pierced the air, shattering the fragile equilibrium between them.
“Little Jade Statue?! How did it end up here with you?!”
Does he recognize the Little Jade Statue?
Listening to his words, if she were an enemy of the Watson family, she’d meet her end; therefore, he must belong to the Watson family.
Before Julia could ponder this, there was a sudden commotion at the door.
“Someone’s broken in!”
This is not good!
Discovered!
Their earlier noise must have given them
away.
Julia scanned the room, preparing to find a suitable hiding spot. After a quick survey, her eyes landed on the sofa.

A vivid memory flashed before her eyes: in the picture, Juju and other kids played a game of
hide–and–seek. After rushing into the living room, Juju pressed a hidden button on the side of the sofa, and it slid away to reveal a secret hiding place.
Although Julia had no idea how she knew about this, there was no time to dwell on that now. Hiding was the top priority.
With determination, Julia hurried towards the sofa.
Could it be that the man also knows about this hidden compartment?
The sound of the door being opened echoed from outside.
Without any delay, Julia swiftly pressed the concealed button on the sofa, causing it to slide away, revealing a hidden compartment underneath.
It was just as she had remembered from the picture.
What Julia didn’t know was the astonishment that seized the man standing beside her at that
moment.
Once Julia had jumped into the hiding spot, she glanced up at the man and waved, “Why are you just standing there? Hurry, come in!”
“Why are you still here? Get in quickly!” The words from his childhood memories suddenly resurfaced in the man’s mind.
Back when he and Juju were kids, a bunch of children had come over to their house to play hide–and–seek together.
Just like the girl had done now, Juju had pressed the hidden button on the sofa, moved it aside, and hid in the secret compartment with him.
“Click-”
The door was about to open!
Randel snapped back to reality, jumped into the compartment, and swiftly slid the sofa back into place.
The door swung open, lights flooded the room, and a dozen identically dressed bodyguards rushed
- in.
Julia huddled in the dark room, silently listening to the events unfolding outside.
Randel, however, had no time to focus on the commotion outside. He was fixated on Julia, despite the near–total darkness.
Who is she?
She
possesses a small jade statue and is familiar with this hidden mechanism.
Who is she?
Could it be-
Impossible!
Juju perished in the fire, reduced to ashes!
The Brooks family’s bodyguards hurriedly moved up and down the stairs.

“Search here and there – don’t miss anything “Julia immediately recognized Joseph’s commanding voice.
Joseph had arrived, so Jared-

“Boss,” Joseph suddenly called out.
Julia’s heart leaped into her throat upon hearing this.
“Have you located it?” Jared’s deep voice was notably sobering.
He’s definitely here! Julia’s heart raced. Her heartbeats quickened, growing louder and faster. Randel happened to be closest to Julia, making it impossible not to overhear her anxiety.
Why is she so jittery? It hadn’t happened moments ago. Could it be because of Jared’s presence?
The room was shrouded in darkness, making it impossible to discern the other person’s expression. Everything was mere speculation.
“I’m searching for it,” Joseph replied
“What’s the situation?” Jared moved to the sofa and took a seat.
Julia tightly pursed her lips and anxiously clutched at her clothes.
Randel glanced down at what she was clutching–his own attire.
He looked up, squinting at her. Was she truly anxious because of Jared?
Why? Did she know him?
“Boss, two intruders broke in just now.”
“Two intruders?” Jared inquired, puzzled.
Julia’s head ached. Could it be that she had been discovered upon entering?
In the past, no matter the task, she had always evaded detection. Could it be that her physical condition in this life was significantly worse than in her previous one?
However, even so, she was confident in her skills and experience.
Or-
Julia gently touched her lower abdomen.
It was her pregnancy that was causing her actions to feel a bit off–kilter.
Now that she thought about it, during her performance earlier, she had taken care to protect her stomach and deliberately slowed her movements.
“Yes, two individuals entered through different windows, one in the front and one in the back,” Joseph explained.
Jared brought his hand to his chin, methodically analyzing the situation. He had previously glimpsed the silhouette of a man and had speculated it might be Juno returning, or perhaps an enemy of the Watson family.
Now there was an additional person involved…
“Is the other individual male or female?”
Joseph shook his head. “Their attire was so concealed that we couldn’t make out their gender. You instructed us not to alert the intruders, so we observed discreetly. Later, they engaged in a scuffle inside, and that’s when you arrived.”
“A scuffle? So, these two don’t know each other?” Jared continued to analyze.
Could it be inferred that the first intruder was likely Juno, and the subsequent arrival was an adversary of Watson’s family? Knowing that someone had previously broken into the Watson residence, Jared suspected it might have been Juno.
In order to eliminate any threats, they had remained nearby, waiting for an opportunity? Contemplating this, Jared gazed upstairs. “Have you found it yet?”
“Not yet,” the bodyguards responded.
Something wasn’t right. Where could they be hiding?
Just as Julia was on edge, her nose suddenly tingled.
Oh no! She was about to sneeze!
“Ah-”
